Earlier this year, it was announced that actor Jay Hernandez, whose credits include Magnum P.I., Hostel, and Suicide Squad, would be making his feature directorial debut with with the survival horror thriller Night Comes, working from a screenplay he wrote with Jason Bourque and Nancy Isaak. The film stars Dafne Keen and Samantha Lorraine – and now an image from the Night Comes production has been unveiled, giving us our first look at the characters played by Keen and Lorraine. Director Neil Marshall’s next movie is the erotic thriller throwback Compulsion, and Deadline reports that Saban Films has picked up the domestic rights.

Exclusive: Saban Films has boarded domestic rights to Neil Marshall’s (The Descent) upcoming thriller Compulsion, starring Charlotte Kirk (Duchess), Anna-Marie Sieklucka (365 Days), Zach McGowan (Black Sails) and Matthew Camilleri (Jurassic World: Dominion).

Pic tells the story of two women on the island of Malta who become caught up in a string of horrifying murders.

Marshall wrote and directed the film and the producer is Kristyna Sellnerova (Duchess). Amp handles international sales.

Kirk recently starred in action-thriller Duchess, directed by Marshall, and can be seen in suspense drama Exit Protocol with Dolph Lundgren and Michael Jai White. Sieklucka is best known for Netflix hit 365 Days and its sequel.

This genre, despite inducing shock and fear among the viewers, is extremely popular, and starting with Alfred Hitchcock, some directors have made careers by making horrors. George Romero, John Carpenter, and Wes Craven are considered classics, while today, we have a series of new, young directors who are great in the genre.

And since we’re writing this in a period of year when horrors are even more popular than usual, we have found a very interesting report that has seemingly determined the scariest horror movie of all time based on objective scientific criteria.

Pathé is expanding its library with five titles acquired from London-based production banner Celador Films, including Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning “Slumdog Millionaire.”

Pathé has collaborated with Celador Films and its founder Paul Smith on the development, production and sales of many movies, including “Slumdog Millionaire” which Pathé sold around the world. The five-picture library pact also includes Neil Marshall’s “Centurion” and Jon Harris’s “The Descent” and “The Descent Part 2,” as well as Tom Harper’s “The Scouting Book for Boys.”

“We are thrilled to welcome these acclaimed titles, which have achieved both commercial success and prestigious awards recognition, into the Pathé library,” said Pathé’s president Ardavan Safaee.

In Wes Craven’s “Scream” — not quite the definitive horror movie but certainly the definitive account of horror fandom — final girl Sidney famously responds to the question of whether she likes scary movies with a resounding no. “What’s the point? They’re all the same,” she says through the phone to the movie’s slasher. “Some stupid killer stalking some big-breasted girl who can’t act who is always running up the stairs when she should be running out the front door.”

Her complaint acts as a clever joke about the stale state of the mainstream slasher genre that Craven was riffing on (and unintentionally revived) through his tongue-in-cheek meta spin. Everyone’s got horror on the mind as we inch closer to Halloween, and that list of “everyone” most definitely includes Kevin Bacon, who has damn sure made his mark on the horror genre over the years. From appearing in the original Friday the 13th to starring in this year’s MaXXXine, Bacon’s horror pedigree is strong – and he’s a genre fan through and through.

After Creative Assembly’s big reveal yesterday regarding the announcement of a sequel to Alien: Isolation, Hollywood Records has added to the fun with the announcement that the soundtrack to Alien: Isolation is available now digitally on streaming platforms, with a special vinyl and cassette version coming soon, courtesy of iam8bit.

Here in the US, James Watkins’ directorial debut Eden Lake went straight to DVD and was distributed by Dimension Films. Of all the titles to fly under the Dimension Extreme banner though, this one was the most deserving. The movie turned out to be more of an endurance test than I could have ever anticipated. Just ahead of Halloween, a horror-centric Fast channel is set to make its debut in the United States.

Scream TV, owned by Nyx Media Corp., will debut via the Distro TV app on Oct. 13 and be available to stream via Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, as well as on mobile platforms. Nyx, which is based in Edmonton, Alberta, also operates Fast channels in Canada and the U.K.

By an incredibly wide margin, fans voted for Case giving her the top spot with 65% of the vote, cruising far past contenders Mark Grossman (Adam), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), and Linden Ashby (Cameron). We’re surprised that Ashby wasn’t closer to the top as he was a disturbing facet of Sharon’s psyche.

With 30 years under her belt, Case still manages to make things fresh and interesting as if it were her first go-round. Yet without all that history, her current story wouldn’t have had as much meaning and ferocity.

Plot: In a world where no one speaks, a devout female-led community hunts down a young woman who has escaped imprisonment. Recaptured, Azrael is due to be sacrificed to an ancient evil in the wilderness, but fights for her own survival.

Review: I’d consider Samara Weaving to be one of the best actresses working in horror. Her work in Ready or Not, The Babysitter, and Scream 6 has cemented her as a standout in the genre. Her natural charisma always shines through in her work. And she always picks such interesting roles that I’m not surprised to see her choosing one entirely lacking dialogue. But Azrael is more than just its gimmick, providing a badass new heroine and an intriguing world that I’d love to see more of.

Neil Marshall made his name with a string of successful horror films like Dog Soldiers and The Descent. The latter is often considered one of the best, most terrifying horror films of the 2000s. Marshall was only involved with the sequel as an executive producer, though.

Exclusive: After a successful summer with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Alexander Ludwig has been tapped to star alongside Dafne Keen and Samantha Lorraine in Night Comes, the forthcoming horror thriller marking the feature directorial debut of veteran actor Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad).

Details as to Ludwig’s role are being kept under wraps. Drawing inspiration from films like Birdbox and The Descent, Night Comes unfolds against the backdrop of a cataclysmic event that threatens to engulf humanity. Two sisters manage to escape the horror only to find themselves thrust into a perilous struggle for survival, tasked with a mission that holds the fate of mankind in the balance.

Written by Hernandez, Jason Bourque and Nancy Isaak, the indie hails from Impossible Dream Entertainment and Big Picture Cinema Group, the latter of which is co-financing with Versatile Media. In it, he reprised his role as Dorn, tech expert for Advanced Miami Metro Operations, which he originated in 2020’s Bad Boys for Life. One of the summer’s big hits, the film grossed over $401 million worldwide.

In film, Ludwig’s other credits include Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, The Hunger Games and Lone Survivor, to name just a few. Also known for roles in Starz’s wrestling drama Heels and History Channel’s Vikings, the actor is represented by Gersh and Untitled Entertainment.

Neil Marshall seems to want what Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino had in the early aughts. For his latest outing, the once-promising English filmmaker behind horror films like “Dog Soldiers” and “The Descent” scales back his interest in frights for a more straightforward tale of fights, but fails to land nearly every punch he throws. Rather than build on the template his aforementioned peers built on themselves, Marshall does nothing for the ensemble crime thriller genre other than play the hits, which would’ve been bearable had he actually done so on key and with some care or nuance.

Right from the get-go, “Duchess” unveils itself as paint-by-numbers contrivance with an in media res sequence that drops us into the middle of a scene between main character, Scarlett (Charlotte Kirk), and an unseemly goon trying to get his rocks off. A fight ensues, blood is spurt, the goon goes out the window,...

Filmmaker Neil Marshall made a name for himself by directing movies like Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday before shifting gears to television where he received widespread acclaim for helming episodes of Game of Thrones, Hannibal, and more. 

He first tackled a comic book adaptation with NBC's Constantine. The series toned down its title character for network television and was cancelled after 13 episodes; despite that, it was a hit with fans and, thanks to the popularity of Matt Ryan's interpretation, the Hellblazer found a second life on The CW.

In 2019, Marshall set his sights on Hellboy. The movie already had the odds stacked against it thanks to the demand for Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 3, but issues behind the scenes derailed the project and it proved a critical and commercial disappointment.

Neil Marshall got his feature directorial career started with one of the coolest werewolf movies ever made, Dog Soldiers, which begins with a scene where a camper played by Craig Conway gets attacked by a monstrous beast. Marshall went on to cast Conway as a different sort of monstrous beast in his next film, The Descent, then as a power-hungry cannibal named Sol in his film Doomsday (pictured above). Now Marshall is serving as an executive producer on Conway’s own feature directorial debut… and judging by the title, Conway might be getting his directing career started in a way similar to Marshall’s own. Because when I see the title Little Red, my first thought is that this could be a werewolf movie.

Deadline has confirmed that Little Red “will reimagine the Little Red Riding Hood story through a contemporary lens.” The involvement of werewolves, however, has not been confirmed.

Last month, we got a look at the trailer for the action thriller Duchess, the latest film from director Neil Marshall. Saban Films will be giving Duchess a digital and VOD release on August 9th… and with that date just one week away, a pair of promotional clips have made their way online. An actor featured in both Dog Soldiers and The Descent, Craig Conway will be making his directorial debut with the upcoming horror movie Little Red, Deadline reports this morning.

Neil Marshall, who directed Conway in Dog Soldiers and The Descent, will exec produce.

Deadline details, “Currently in pre-production, the low-budget horror-thriller will reimagine the Little Red Riding Hood story through a contemporary lens. It will follow a fifteen year-old girl who unravels the dark secrets in her family. Casting has yet to be revealed.”

Currently in pre-production, the low-budget horror-thriller will reimagine the Little Red Riding Hood story through a contemporary lens. It will follow a fifteen year-old girl who unravels the dark secrets in her family. Casting has yet to be revealed.

House54 produces in association with Newtown Entertainment. Both companies herald from the North East of England. Script comes from Peter Stylianou and cinematographer-producer is Daniel Patrick Vaughan with Paul Murray also producing.

Marshall most recently directed action-crime movie Duchess, which was picked up by Saban Films. Actor and producer Conway most recently starred in UK horror Drained.

Conway is represented by Newtown Artist Management, Bohemia Group and Nelson Davis Llp.

Stephen King knows horror. For 50 years now, King has been terrifying readers with his best-selling tales of terror — books that have stood the test of time to become classics of the genre. So, whenever King weighs in on a horror title that he didn't write, people take notice.
