Before we look ahead to what 2019 has to offer, the Cinelinx team has gathered to present our individual picks for this year’s best movies. Check out the first part of our staff breaking down their 2018 favorites!
[Update: You can now read Part 2 of our team's lists.]
As we have in the years before, we tasked our writers to choose the Five movies they thought stood out from the crowd this year. 2018 was an incredible year for movies (for both blockbusters and smaller flicks) and narrowing down our lists to only five choices was pretty damn difficult and even required us to break our list into two parts this year! That said, our team toughed it out and made it happen:

This weekend, Disney and Marvel's Black Panther will become only the seventh film to have ever topped $600 million at the domestic box office. Like last weekend, however, the one question that lingers is whether or not it will be able to retain the #1 spot yet again, becoming the first film since Avatar to top the weekend box office five straight weekends in a row. Standing in its way is Warner Bros.'s release of Tomb Raider, and the race looks like it will be a close one. Meanwhile, fellow new wide releases include Fox's Love, Simon and Roadside's I Can Only Imagine while Focus will debut 7 Days in Entebbe in a moderate number of theaters. Last weekend we bet against Black Panther remaining the #1 film in North America, expecting more from Disney's A Wrinkle in Time than it could ultimately deliver while Panther exceeded our expectations. This weekend it...

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - "American Idol" heated up last night as the final three contestants vied for the top spot. Contestants performed tunes selected by the judges and the opinions from behind the desk were anything but unanimous. Kris Allen sang One Republic's "Apologize," chosen by Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson and that's when the war began. DioGuardi criticized Allen's rendition, saying "at this stage, you gotta be swingin' it outta the park" and suggested she should have been more creative in her interpretation of the hit song. Simon hit back saying, "I think, Kara, it's a cop out what you said. You can't choose a song for him and then blame him for doing the song." Allen returned the verbal volley: "You’re gonna tell me about interpreting a songs? "Have you ever interpreted a song in your life? No, I don’t think so." Contestant...

Our Top 3 sang 2 songs tonight. The first was judges. choice; while the second was the choice of the contestants. (What . no pick from Clive Davis? . Why only two songs this season?)
Ryan reported tonight was the 300th episode of American Idol.
American Idol: Top 3
Judges. Choice Round .
Danny Gokey . Paula.s choice . .Dance Little Sister. by Terrence Trent D.Arby . the growling karaoke version, added his own do do do, what.s with the unlaced boots, bad dancing . Randy said let the games begin, lots of energy, in hoarse tone, dope for me; Kara said keeps him in his money spot with vocals, great singer but will I remember that performance tomorrow (finally someone is listening), gyrating dancing; Paula said I.m a choreographer and thought he did really good, magic part of your voice stood out; Simon said it is...

It’s a tight race to the “American Idol” finale finish line. There’s no Syesha Mercado easy target here in season eight’s top three. Nope, all three contestants have viable fanbases and oodles of talent. And after watching the top three perform judges’ choice/ contestants’ choice numbers, it’s even harder to predict.
My terrible batting average hasn’t stopped me from predicting in the past (I’m 0-3 right now, aren’t I?), so let’s break down the performance show and predict whose “Idol” journey will end tomorrow night.
Check out Jim Cantiello’s video recap of tonight’s ‘Idol’ episode below,
then read his predictions!
Going Home: Kris Allen
Kris delivered my favorite performance of the show. His acoustic take on Kanye West’s “Heartless” is exactly the kind of memorable, buzzworthy showstopper that has America reaching for its collective TiVo remote. However, his first...

Tonight’s “American Idol” live-blog is dedicated to Allison Iraheta, my personal Idol. In honor of the recent oustee, I expect all of you to refuse to give me any credit I might deserve in this live-blog. Your comments should be comprised of backhanded compliments, faint praise and “that ones” while you over-praise other bloggers who are lazy and aren’t deserving of their unstoppable success. Deal?
Check out Jim Cantiello’s video recap of the show below!
We now resume with our regularly scheduled live-blog.
And then there were two…with a third wheel.
Yes, in a season that’s felt as endless as “The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons”, the finale is approaching faster than Kara can say “Here’s the thing…”
The three remaining contestants had their hometown visits last week, which I imagine was a great morale booster. Although we all know one contestant doesn’t...

Foreign Oscar hopefuls grow
The list of foreign-language Oscar contenders grew a bit longer Thursday as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday received entries from Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Mexico. An Italian jury of 711 cinema and cultural professionals selected Gianni Amelio's Rai Cinema production Le Chiavi di Casa (The Keys to the House). It stars Kim Rossi Stuart as an estranged father who sets out to make amends with his 14-year-old handicapped son, played by Andrea Rossi. The Dutch picked Eddy Terstall's tragicomedy Simon, about the unlikely friendship between a heterosexual drug dealer and a homosexual dentistry student. The feature debuted at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht. Erik Poppe's sophomore effort, Hawaii, Oslo, is Norway's entry for Oscar consideration. The film follows a series of interconnected stories set in Oslo during the hottest day of the year.
