Earlier this spring, TBS announced that it had ordered a new season of The Joe Schmo Show, the format in which a single ordinary person found themselves in the middle of what they thought was an unscripted series, only to eventually discover that everybody around them was actually a comedian attempting to bamboozle that one Joe Schmo.
On one hand, it was a somewhat unlikely resurrection for the quirky reality-comedy hybrid, which originally debuted on Spike TV — remember Spike TV? — back in 2003, aired a second season in 2004, went into hibernation until a third season in 2013, and then returned to sleep for another decade.

'Newlyweds' beats 'Todd'
A pair of returning cable favorites spoiled the party for a new series Tuesday. Second-season premieres for MTV's Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica and Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show registered their most-watched episodes yet at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., respectively. That hurt the debut of FX's new reality series, Todd TV, which ran from 10-11 p.m. Newlyweds drew 4.7 million total viewers and ranked first in its target 12-34 demo among all broadcast and cable networks in that time slot. It also served as lead-in for new reality series 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave, which was MTV's highest-rated series premiere among viewers 12-34, but dropped roughly one-quarter of Newlyweds' total audience, tallying 3.3 million.
