Chad Hartigan’s perfect little drama, one of the best films at the first annual Ccff, may not have enough speed or tension for those addicted to Hollywood blockbusters but it is an entrancing drama about what people do for one another just through kindness and support. By presenting believable, lived-in characters, Hartigan creates a genuinehuman story. And the film is now available not just on DVD but Netflix streaming. Watch it. Then buy it.

Greek filmmaker Dennis Iliadis garnered Wes Craven's attention when he helmed the 2004 film Hardcore. That film scored Iliadis the job of directing The Last House on the Left remake in 2009. While Iliadis was reportedly attached to a few other projects post-Last House, he instead went on to helm +1, which hit the festival circuit this year.

When people ask me to ramble off the names of my favorite bands, there’s a few that I always mention. Faith No More. Helmet. Clutch. And Prong.
Prong first hit my radar in the early 1990’s. I was in high school, and MTV still played music. A weekend staple was always Headbangers Ball, and it was through that show that Prong first hit my ears during the era of their 1991 Epic Records release Prove You Wrong.
The music was powerful, heavy, yet uncluttered. The bass groove was infectious, the drums precise, and the guitar and vocals of front man Tommy Victor was the icing on the cake. Being a sophomore in High School at the time, I had my dad take me down to the local “CD Exchange” in search of the band’s earliest works.
After months of searching, I’d been able to go back to the beginning.

One is already at a disadvantage when tackling a remake of a movie which has gained classic status. To touch it means accusations of sacrilege from those who remember it for the impact it had on their lives, in whatever way. A great advantage when attempting such a daunting task, however, is having the creators involved.
In the case of Rogue Pictures’ new version of The Last House On The Left, these include original producers Sean S. Cunningham and Wes Craven (plus the latter’s longtime production partner Marianne Maddalena)—horror heavyweights to say the least. The filmmakers were adamant not to make this a cheap, flashy chiller, but were firmly focused on conveying a similar sense of terrifying realism to that which gave the original its impact.

Appropriately enough, it was a 2004 feature called Hardcore that placed Greek director Dennis Iliadis at the helm of a remake to The Last House on the Left . Released in 1972, the term "hardcore" could certainly describe Wes Craven's original film as its tale (inspired by Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring ) combined a rape/revenge formula that yielded a disgusted reaction in some movie-goers. A former stage and commercials director, Iliadis launched into his update on the film - starring Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, Sara Paxton and Garret Dillahunt - with very little fear. He considers the horror genre a "great dramatic platform," after all, and if he's skimping on the visceral effects, then he believes he's not doing his job. ShockTillYouDrop.com met with...

On March 13th, which conveniently is an appropriately spooky Friday the 13th, The Last House on the Left returns to theaters as an updated take on the classic revenge shocker. This time Craven tapped Greek director Dennis Iliadis to helm, whose gritty 2004 flick Hardcore scored some cult cred (and controversy) of its own. Craven and original Lhol producer Sean S. Cunningham produced the remake along with Marianne Maddelena. The story holds mostly true to the original, taking place in a sleepy summer vacation town with seventeen year-old beauty Mari Collingwood (Sara Paxton) and her friend (Martha MacIsaac) crossing paths with a psychopathic prison escapee Krug (Garret Dillahunt) and his crew of fugitives. Their adventure spirals into a terrifying chain of events that becomes the ultimate game of revenge. Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter play the Collingwood parents who unexpectedly get thrown in the thick of it all.

Iliadis on path to 'House' redo
Dennis Iliadis is in negotiations to direct Rogue Pictures' remake of The Last House on the Left.
Wes Craven, who wrote and directed the original, is producing the remake with longtime production partner Marianne Maddalena and Sean S. Cunningham, the producer of the original.
Adam Alleca has been hired to overhaul the script, which tells the story of a pair of teen girls who are kidnapped, raped and murdered by a gang of thugs. The killers unwittingly hole up in the home of one of the victim's parents, who, upon realizing what their guests did, exact revenge.
Iliadis, who lives in Greece, is a European commercial director known in movie circles for his 2004 Greek feature Hardcore, about the relationship between two prostitutes, which he wrote and directed. He is repped by CAA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Alleca is repped by WMA and Brillstein-Grey.
