Michael Strahan’s time in the spotlight might easily have ended when he walked away from the NFL in 2008. After all, it’s pretty hard to top a 15-year run with the New York Giants that landed him in seven Pro Bowls and culminated in a Super Bowl upset win over the New England Patriots.

“Your career is over when you’re still very young,” he says. “I was 36 when I retired!” But Strahan knew he had more to achieve.

As it turns out, Constance Schwartz-Morini, a razor-sharp alum of the NFL and talent agency The Firm, saw Strahan’s potential for greatness off the field. She’d tapped him to emcee a golf tournament in the ’90s, and they became lifelong friends. Under her guidance, Strahan revamped his brand and branched into TV, first becoming an analyst on “Fox NFL Sunday” and then landing the coveted hosting gig opposite...

Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter is out at Fox Sports, where he was the co-host of Fox Sports 1’s morning debate show, “First Things First.”

“Cris Carter is no longer with Fox Sports,” said Fox Sports in a statement. “There is no further comment at this time.”

Carter has not appeared on the Fox Sports 1 morning show since Oct. 30. The Big Lead reported on Sunday that Carter had been suspended from Fox following an investigation, though the nature of that investigation was not known.

CBS has ordered a sports-themed game show “Game On!” from James Corden, based on the U.K. series “A League of Their Own,” that Corden hosts himself.

Keegan-Michael Key will host the U.S. version. He will be joined by Venus Williams and Rob Gronkowski, who will serve as team captains, while Bobby Lee and Iam Karmel will serve as comedian panelists.

Equal parts comedy and game show, the genre-busting “Game On!” pits two teams of three, captained by Williams and Gronkowski, with comedians Lee and Karmel plus a rotating mix of sports stars, comedians and celebrities, against one another.

The teams will go head to head in over-the-top physical challenges, from seeing who can dunk the most basketballs over a tank of water while harnessed on a bungee cord, to taking on a sumo wrestler in the ring. They will also have their sports-related knowledge tested with trivia questions,...

Fox is rolling the dice on “Cousin” Sal Iacono, giving him a primetime showcase. The gambling expert and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” regular (he’s Kimmel’s real-life cousin) will be seen weekly on Fox’s “Thursday Night Football” pregame show starting Sept. 26.

Iacono will appear live this week from Green Bay, where the Packers are taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. Iacono will then continue to be seen on all subsequent Fox pre-game shows throughout the season. He has been tasked to create and star in taped comedic sketches that will air before the primetime games on the network.

Iacono is a writer on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and frequently seen on camera as well. At Fox, Iacono follows in the footsteps of his cousin Jimmy, who appeared regularly on Fox NFL Sunday before moving on to his eponymous ABC late night talk show. (Iacono was also occasionally seen in those Kimmel spots.

Fox Sports has hired former NFL quarterback Michael Vick to be an in-studio football analyst for the upcoming season, an individual with knowledge of the hiring told TheWrap. Two of Fox's most popular comedies will join forces in the fall as the characters from New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine come together for an hour-long crossover episode. The shows' producers announced the upcoming event at this week's Television Critics Association press tour in California.

The crossover is really going to happen, but the tone of the announcement was decidedly tongue-in-cheek.

"Stay tuned for our two casts to do a soulful R&B number on Empire, co-anchor the Fox 10 O’Clock News and connect for a touchdown on Fox NFL Sunday," said Brooklyn Nine-Nine producer Dan Goor. "But in all seriousness, we’re all huge fans of New Girl here at the Nine-Nine, and we’re excited to see our characters interact and to work with their incredible writers and producers.

Strahan will show off his stripper moves in Magic Mike Xxl, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Channing Tatum, who stars and serves as a producer on the film that loosely chronicles his own experiences working as a male stripper, invited Strahan to appear in the sequel during an episode of Live.

Strahan announced that what started as a joke between the host and the actor had materialized into an actual role. Providing an anecdote about a chat with the Magic Mike Xxl wardrobe director, Strahan joked, “After the conversation, I said, ‘Why’d he even bother to call me to talk about wardrobe, cause apparently there ain’t nothing to be worn.”

The former Tennessee Titans player died Saturday night when he lost control on a curve in his 2009 Gmc Yukon Denali and crashed after 11 p.m., less than a mile from home, Metro Nashville Police said. In a statement on the department website, police said his SUV was speeding when it went off the road and hit a line of trees before coming to a stop upside down in a culvert.

The football player was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and pronounced dead.

Bironas’ death was confirmed on Twitter by his official Twitter account. In the Twitter statement, Bronas’ rep told grieving fans, “We appreciate your respect for the family’s privacy and your prayers at this time.”
