I always start with TCM because you can tell they take such care in developing their lineup. Be sure to check out their Thursday nights. This is truly a unique year for that station.

This upcoming month, there are two interesting genre titles playing on Fearnet that you should take note of; 'Eden Lake' and 'Dahmer.' Why? Because they both represent early movies for actors that have proved to be outstanding performers in the arts long before they honed their craft. In the case of 'Eden Lake,' the film is fronted by Michael Fassbender, long before he played Magneto in the 'X-Men' films, stole the show in Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds' & played the android David from 'Prometheus' with such cold, calculated perfection. Also, you can catch 'Dahmer,' the bio pic from director David Jacobson, which stars Jeremy Renner in one of his first cinematic lead roles. Now he's an Avenger in the Marvel Universe! So it got me thinking about other examples of successful stars you may have totally forgotten were in genre films.

Halloween is just around the corner and screenwriter Carl Dupre has plans to make it as scary as he can. His latest movie, the Robert Englund-starring Inkubus, hits theaters across the Unites States this month and its writer promises to gross you out, but in a good way.
As well as writing a handful of horror sequels (including Prophecy 3: The Ascent, Hellraiser: Hellseeker, Hellraiser: Hellworld) and being a prolific short story writer, Dupre is also a dab hand at comedy. I have been a fan of Dupre’s writing since he wrote one of my favorite movies, the hilarious Kiss-centric Detroit Rock City. In a recent interview with Dupre, the screenwriter gave me some insight as to how he wrote Detroit Rock City, what is was like on set, and getting to meet Kiss.
But first things first: horror.
Geeks of Doom: So, Inkubus – how did that come about?...

Loud, violent, campy, funny, ballsy, it shouldn’t work but it does. And it has Rutger Hauer. This might be the most fun you’ll have all year. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy

Dimension are certainly reshuffling like crazy of late, something's definitely shook them up and to coincide with the 'extreme' pushing back of the release for 'Apollo 18' word has arrived that something similar, albeit not as drastic, has also occurred to fishy follow-up 'Piranha 3Dd'. The sequelisation to Alexandre Aja's fun summer b-movie nod has been whipped back from it's intended September 2011 slot to 23 November. Can't really imagine that audiences prepping for Winter are going to be too involved in a sunshine based horror flick though, but who knows. In addition to this it seems that producer and writer Joel Soisson ('Hellraiser: Hellworld', 'Pulse 3') has been tapped by Dimension to redraft the script penned by 'Feast' triology scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, and to also co-produce. 'Feast' helmer John Gulager will direct. Aja's original gave us laughs,...

When Henry Cavill was announced as the new Man of Steel in director Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot, the British actor leaped from relative obscurity (if you consider appearing in 2005's Hellraiser: Hellworld "obscurity") to a high-profile, sought-after role. In this week's Entertainment Weekly, Cavill explained he was cast in the role after donning a replica of Christopher Reeve's Superman costume, and Cavill admitted he was far from confident after losing his muscle tone for a role in the upcoming movie The Cold Light of Day with Bruce Willis.

1. He screen-tested for James Bond role in Casino Royale – and was overlooked for the last Superman movie. The British-born actor was up for Bruce Wayne in 2005’s Batman Begins (Christian Bale got the part); lost out to Daniel Craig for the James Bond role in 2006’s Casino Royale and was overlooked in the 2006 Superman flick thanks to Brandon Routh. Empire magazine dubbed him the "most unlucky man in Hollywood." 2. He played opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Showtime's The Tudors. Though he mostly starred in low-profile films (direct-to-video Hellraiser: Hellworld being one of them), he eventually got his big break opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Henry VIII - - in the Showtime series The Tudors. 3. He was eyed for Robert Pattinson's role in Twilight. He reportedly was author Stephenie Meyer's top pick to play Edward Cullen. By the time shooting was to began, he was 25 - hardly resembling the...

It took Henry Cavill far longer than expected to complete his journey from Krypton to Earth. Years after the British actor first circled the role of Superman, he finally landed the part of the Man of Steel in Zack Snyder's reboot of the storied comic franchise.
It was, indeed, a circuitous path for Cavill, involving brushes with other heroes and the planet's most swoon-worthy vampire. He's been this close to becoming a breakout Hollywood star a staggering number of times, but until now he was unable to seal the deal. Now his life is about to change in a big way. As we applaud Cavill for winning the part, let's take a look back at the ups and downs he endured before signing on to play the world's most iconic man in tights.

The 'Saw' franchise certainly earned it's place as one of the biggest horror franchises of all time. 7 films in 6 years, breaking all sorts of records, including becoming the Guinness World Records 'Most Successful Horror Movie Series'. So serial killer flicks from now on will also fall victim to comparison. Particularly ones such as Marcus Graves' 'Choose'. But here's hoping there's a little more to this than the UK DVD cover art lets on. 'He makes the rules. You make the choice' does sound a lot like 'Live or Die. Make your choice' don't you think? Anyway 'Choose' arrives here in the UK (first!) on DVD on 24 January 2011. The stunning Katheryn Winnick (below) ('Amusement', 'Hellraiser: Hellworld'), Nicholas Tucci, Kevin Pollak, Richard Short and Bruce Dern star....

For those still keeping track on the Hellraiser franchise (and you know who you are), a ninth installment is on the way. Titled Hellraiser: Revelations, the movie will be a stand-alone sequel in the tradition of Hellraiser: Deader and Hellraiser: Hellworld (a.k.a Hellraiser 7 8, respectively) and not the Hellraiser remake that Dimension wants so badly to produce in 3-D. Both of the previous sequels have told individual stories that used elements from the Hellraiser movies.

ShockTillYouDrop has reported that Mirrors 2 director Victor Garcia will head up the next chapter in the Hellraiser franchise and it'll be called Hellraiser: Revelations from a script by long-time Hellrasier FX artist Gary J. Tunicliffe. Tunicliffe has been very loyal to the Hellrasier films and even shot his own Hellrasier short film several years ago. Clive Barker's camp has confirmed that this film is going into production very, very soon!
So, last we heard Hellraiser was another horror franchise that was going to have the reboot touch and now that this news has hit who knows what's going on and will Doug Bradley reprise his role once again?
So what do y'all think? did any of you see Hellraiser: Hellworld or Hellraiser: Hellseeker?...

Robert Englund is in Rhode Island shooting a new horror film called Inkubus . William Forsythe, Joey Fatone, Jonathan Silverman, Mike Cerrone and Michelle Ray Smith also star, says Variety. The film is set against the backdrop of a police station scheduled for demolition. The officers working the skeleton shift of the building's last night find themselves in for a surprise when a demon (Inkubus) confesses to his legacy of crimes. Glenn Ciano directs from a script he penned with Carl Dupre ( Hellraiser: Hellseeker , Hellraiser: Hellworld ).

There's something odd about the recent wave of "vampire" and "zombie" films that claim to be one or the other, while in reality are neither. In Richard Crudo's directorial debut Against The Dark aka the much-discussed "Steven Seagal Vs. Vampires" flick, the creatures found within are said to be "vampires" (per the film's marketing), but really aren't - in a kind of I Am Legend sort of way.
