The literal translation of the title of this movie is: the great battle between Zhi & Feng (Warlords).
This movie paints a relative accurate picture of contemporary Chinese history, which need some explanation to do here:
Zhi stands for Zhi-Li, the area in Central China that is between the Yangtze River and the Great Wall, while Feng stands for Feng-Tian, the Northeastern part of China outside the Great Wall. Warlords controls the two area fought fiercely with each other in the 1920's to gain more territories and this movie presents an accurate picture of this part of contemporary Chinese history.
The only shortcoming of this movie was that White Russians soldiers who fled to China after their defeated in the Russian Civil war participated in this warlords' wars and this movie does not show it.
