Based on the excellent book by Clive King, this was a great adaptation and series. The series does remain loyal to the spirit of the book, which I appreciated, and the story here is still wonderful to watch. The filming locations are striking and the photography is good too. The music is quite moving to me, while the script is fine. And the acting I had little problem with either, Thomas Sangster is appealing as Barney, while Stig is brilliantly done. And I liked their chemistry together. And it was lovely to see Phillida Law and Geoffrey Palmer as the grandparents and they act their parts really convincingly. I personally found the bullies a tad more threatening in the book, but that is probably just me, though I have to say they are still pretty convincing.
Overall, this is a great series. I remember seeing it about 15 plus times from when it first aired and watching it on cassette tape after, and I would love to see it again. 10/10 Bethany Cox
