Paul Greengrass makes harrowing movies. He established this with his gripping 2002 Northern Ireland docudrama "Bloody Sunday," which was his springboard to Hollywood, where he turned the Jason Bourne franchise into a master class in jittery, handheld, shoot-for-the-edit cinema. These successes for Universal compelled the studio to take a managed $15 million risk on Greengrass' "United 93," his masterful staging of the heroic events that transpired on the fourth hijacked plane, which thankfully did not reach its target, on 9/11. It's his best film to date, but one that's also way too intense for many people to endure -- which can also be said of his biographical thriller "Captain Phillips."
The account of Somali pirates hijacking the shipping vessel Maersk Alabama in 2009 stars Tom Hanks as the title skipper who managed to engineer the rescue of himself and his crew from the ship. It's shot in Greengrass' trademark docudrama style, which means a lot of shaky cameras,...

Paul Greengrass may no longer be a journalist, but he has successfully brought a journalistic style to both action films and historical dramas over his career. The filmmaker is best known for his hand-held, cinéma vérité style where the camera moves like a cameraman embedded in the scene, struggling to capture real events. His style is often imitated, though few are able to match the subtly precise way that Greengrass constructs his sequences through quick cutting and frenetic camerawork. Despite being famous for a specific filmmaking technique, Greengrass’ filmography is still quite diverse, which should be apparent in the gallery below.
He began his career working for the audacious British current affairs program “World in Action.” He transitioned to fiction filmmaking with a series of TV movies based on historical events. His breakout hit was the historical drama “Bloody Sunday,” chronicling the 1972 Bloody Sunday shootings. Greengrass was then hired to...

Exclusive: What does it take to become Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King Jr? David Oyelowo took on the challenge for Ava DuVernay’s underrated 2014 film Selma. It’s all there in Becoming King, a new documentary coming to Paramount+.
The 1965 march through the segregationist state of Alabama resulted in brutal beatings by local authorities and white vigilante groups as activist marchers crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge en route to the state house in Montgomery. They didn’t get there, that day. Called Bloody Sunday, the nationally televised footage was shocking and shameful, and it left activist and future congressman John Lewis with a fractured skull. Six days later, President Lyndon Johnson had seen enough and gave a nationwide TV address pledging support for a National Voting Rights bill that became law after he introduced it in Congress. It was a milestone moment.

Though many people think of Paul Greengrass for his work on the ‘Bourne’ franchise, he really broke out in a big way with his film, “Bloody Sunday,” which is based on a true story. And after ‘Bourne,’ he would go on to direct films inspired by real events such as “United 93,” “Captain Phillips,” and “22 July.” Clearly, he has a keen eye when it comes to taking very human, emotional stories and making them incredibly cinematic.

Exclusive: Paul Greengrass has been set by Warner Bros to adapt, direct and produce Drowning: The Rescue of Flight 421. The T.J. Newman bestselling novel was the subject of a fevered bidding battle, with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy landing the novel for $1.5 million against $3 million. There were four other seven-figure bids on the table. The project reunites De Luca and Greengrass, who worked together on Captain Phillips.
In Drowning, a plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean six minutes after takeoff and is flooded after an explosion during evacuation. A dozen survivors sink in a sealed part of the aircraft as it perches precariously on an undersea cliff 200 feet below the surface. Among them is an engineer and his 11-year-old daughter. His estranged wife — she’s also the girl’s mother — is part of the elite rescue team that races to save the passengers before their air runs out.

Paul McCartney isn’t usually assertive about his political beliefs but isn’t afraid to voice his opinions when necessary. Since he is a musician, his politics are primarily expressed within his music in either subtle or more obvious ways.

Paul McCartney usually isn’t aggressive about his politics, but he didn’t hold back with “Big Boys Bickering.” According to The Ringer, the song was released in 1992 in response to President George H. It’s a challenging song to find these days as it was banned by the BBC, several U.S. radio stations and was edited out of an MTV performance.

The time-honored tradition of players moving from the gridiron to the broadcast booth was active once again today, as Fox NFL Sunday saw three-time Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen indicate his next step.
Olsen announced his retirement from the NFL and shared that he will join the Fox NFL broadcast team. The decision was revealed during the Fox pregame show ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers. Olsen will join the network full-time in his post-playing career.
Olsen ends his football career ranked fifth in NFL history for receiving yards and receptions (742) among tight ends in the Super Bowl era. His 60 touchdowns rank eighth among players at the position.
The Chicago Bears drafted Olsen in in 2007. He was traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2011 and played nine seasons there, earning three Pro Bowl nods and two AP All-Pro Second Team designations.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is trying to get her lawsuit against the publisher of the MailOnline and Mail on Sunday thrown out of court before the case proceeds to a blockbuster trial in the fall.
Markle is suing Associated Newspapers for breach of copyright after the Mail on Sunday and MailOnline published a private letter to her father Thomas Markle in February 2019. During a two-day High Court hearing in London, her attorneys are making representations for a summary judgment, meaning all or some of the case would be resolved before a full trial.
According to reports on today’s proceedings, lawyers for the duchess have argued that there is “no real prospect” of Associated Newspapers winning the case. “At its heart, it’s a very straightforward case about the unlawful publication of a private letter,” her lawyer Justin Rushbrooke argued, according to Sky News.

More than 40 prominent U.K. film industry figures, including “Tenet” director Christopher Nolan and “Small Axe” filmmaker Steve McQueen, have written to U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak requesting further support for the beleaguered exhibition sector.
The letter in the Sunday Times, a follow up to the U.K. Cinema Association’s December 2020 ‘Keep the Magic Alive’ campaign, acknowledges the efforts of the U.K. government in helping cinemas stay afloat, but that these initiatives may not be enough.
The signatories also include “Maradona” director Asif Kapadia, “Slumdog Millionaire” filmmaker Danny Boyle, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, and “Harry Potter” producer David Heyman. (A full list is below.)
“There is no doubt that if supported to survive, the sector will recover and once again thrive. But the need for direct financial support is pressing,” the letter says. “We recognize the support that government has already been able to provide.

Netflix has apologized following backlash at a tweet shared by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's official Twitter account.

The caption on the post read: "Sunday bloody Sunday."
Bloody Sunday refers to the Bogside Massacre of 1972, in which 14 people were shot and killed by British soldiers during a protest in Derry, Northern Ireland.
Followers quickly hit out at the Twitter account because of the way the post was worded, prompting Netflix to swiftly delete the offending post.

In this discombobulated time, period western “News of the World” is just the sort of big-screen entertainment in short supply for Academy voters. They still haven’t seen Christopher Nolan’s glossy thriller “Tenet,” which never opened in New York and Los Angeles. When they eventually watch their Blu-ray screeners, the escapist time-twister isn’t exactly a zeitgeist movie mid-pandemic.

The battle for the White House is in full swing, with Tuesday’s first presidential debate pitting incumbent Donald Trump against Democratic challenger Joe Biden — with Fox News veteran Chris Wallace serving as referee.
The 90-minute debate aired live on the four major broadcast networks on Tuesday night from Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, with Wallace quizzing the two candidates on a number of topics, including the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, filling the seat recently vacated by the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Sunday’s Family Guy premiere attempted to answer a question fans have been asking since 1999: Who can understand Stewie?
The issue arose after Stewie loudly dropped the F-bomb in the middle of church. It was a natural response to hearing that Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies weren’t being served at coffee hour, but the time and place (and pretty much everything else) made it a less-than-ideal first word.

For the second year in a row, the Primetime Emmy Awards broke an all-time record low for viewership.
Nielsen data stated that the Primetime Emmys, which aired at 8 p.m. Et on ABC on Sunday, garnered 6.1 million total viewers. That’s a sharp drop from the 2019 Emmys’ 6.9 million viewers on Fox. The 2020 Primetime Emmys’ viewership was the lowest since the event began tracking viewership data in 1990.
The 2020 Emmys have been Hollywood’s largest awards show since the coronavirus pandemic began impacting daily life in the United States. There’s no indication that the pandemic directly depressed viewership numbers, but the coronavirus had an indirect impact on the Emmys via network TV’s Sunday sports programming. Competing Sunday evening programming included Sunday Night Football and an NBA game featuring the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets; NFL programming on several networks was significantly higher than viewership for the Emmys.

A previous Big Brother champion and a onetime runner-up both faced eviction on Thursday night, capping a week in the All-Stars house that found things getting, dare I say, exciting?
With Daniele as Head of Household, and the Committee alliance in power once again, it seemed this week could be the last one for either David or Kevin, both of whom have been constant, easy targets for the Committee all summer. But after David saved himself with his Bb Basement power, and Da’Vonne used the Power of Veto on Kevin, Dani was left to name not one, but two replacement nominees.

This has to be her year, right? AT&T said it is not changing the restrictions for the NFL Sunday Ticket out-of-market games package for the upcoming season.
To purchase Sunday Ticket, you must still be either a DirecTV subscriber, or — if you don’t subscribe to the satellite TV service — you may be eligible to get the streaming version of the service if you live in “select areas within various metropolitan cities,” if you can’t get satellite TV, or if you’re a college student.
A report Friday on blog site TVAnswerMan.com noted that the streaming version of Sunday Ticket is available in 29 U.S. markets to non-DirecTV subscribers. According to AT&T, this isn’t new (and the package is available only in some areas of those markets).
“The eligibility requirements [for NFL Sunday Ticket] have remained the same for the last five years,” AT&T Avp of corporate communications Jim Greer said.

NFL Sunday Ticket, for more than 25 years a major driver of subscriptions to DirecTV, is being offered by AT&T for streaming by non-subscribers.
The availability is not technically new but has been phased in quietly and not attracted wide attention from customers, investors or press. It applies only for viewers in certain Zip codes in 29 U.S. markets, mostly corresponding with where NFL teams are based. In the past, a small number of exceptions would be made for university students or fans who could gain access if they could prove that they are unable to receive DirecTV service at their homes.
The broadening out of the service was first reported by Phillip Swann on his blog, TVAnswerMan.com.
First launched in 1994, Sunday Ticket reaches about 2 million subscribers via DirecTV, offering them a full complement of weekly telecasts. With DirecTV losing subscribers (nearly 3 million in 2019), widening the scope of who can...

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s Yellowstone. If you’d rather watch first, read later, saddle up and ride on outta here.
At this point, Yellowstone’s Jamie should really just wear protective gear 24/7. Whether he deserves all of the abuse that’s heaped upon him — and, more often than not, he does — the guy just takes one blow after another. In Sunday’s episode, he gained a terrible new insight into why he was, as Beth so recently reminded him, evil incarnate. She, in turn, took two major steps toward making the road she travels in life a happy trail.

Fox has set September 27 as the fall premiere date for its Sunday animation block that includes Season 32 of The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Bless the Harts and Family Guy. The news comes ahead of the series’ panels at this week’s Comic-Con@Home event that begins in earnest Thursday.
The animation quartet is among the only returning shows in Fox’s fall 2020-21 primetime lineup, which was announced in May. The network built a coronavirus-proof schedule for the new season, relying on scripted and reality series already in the can, from dramas Filthy Rich and NeXt, both held over from this season, to new installments of MasterChef Junior and Cosmos, the pickup of the Spectrum Originals series L.A.’s Finest and wrestling and NFL football.
The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and Bless the Harts were able to remain in production during the pandemic, making them a go for their normal Sunday Animation Domination bock.
