Barrymore appeared in the segment dressed her character from the 1999 romantic comedy directed by Raja Gosnell sporting braces and a scrunchie.

Although the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards didn’t go as initially planned after pivoting from a live ceremony to a pretaped one, the show was still full of memorable moments. Drew Barrymore opened the 2023 awards show in a pretaped segment as her Never Been Kissed character Josie Gellar, but was inserted into other popular shows and movies. Some of them included Smile, Wednesday, M3GAN, Nope, The White Lotus, Top Gun: Maverick and lastly, Cocaine Bear, where she finally gets her kiss from the aforementioned bear.

The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards featured merely a handful of explicit references to the ongoing writers strike but the non-live event clearly looked different.

The show featured numerous pretaped segments and acceptance speeches and clips both from upcoming movies and TV shows and previous editions of the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Additionally the show, awards categories and nominees and winners were announced via a voiceover, which initially referred to the event as the “2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards special.”

Host Drew Barrymore, who announced Wednesday that she wouldn’t be hosting this year’s edition of the awards in person out of solidarity with the striking writers, appeared in a couple of pretaped sketches near the top of the show, filmed before she withdrew from her role as live emcee.

Scream VI was named best movie on Sunday night at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which pivoted at the last minute from live to pretaped due to the writers strike,

The film also won best fight for Courteney Cox (as Gale Weathers) and the killer Ghostface, the latter of whom accepted both awards via pretaped video.

Accepting best movie, Ghostface quipped that there is finally an answer to the question, “What is your favorite scary movie?” — a reference to a classic line of dialogue from the franchise.

The Last of Us also was a big winner, taking three awards, including best show. Star Pedro Pascal was named best hero, while he and Bella Ramsey also were named best duo. Stranger Things won two awards.

The show was held amid the ongoing writers strike, which led host Drew Barrymore to drop out in a show of support for the striking scribes.

Drew Barrymore dropped out of hosting duties earlier this week and pledged to return next year. Drew Barrymore shared some very exciting news on the Feb. 23 episode of her talk show, "The Drew Barrymore Show," during which she revealed that she and longtime collaborator Adam Sandler are looking to do another movie together.

During the episode, Barrymore talked to her cohost Ross Matthews about how Tom Hanks and Robin Wright - who starred together in "Forrest Gump" - are teaming up for a new film together. Matthews said, "And I love when people we love in movies like reteam for a movie. So, I'm gonna ask you on behalf of everyone, you and Adam Sandler, are we doing another one?"

Barrymore confessed, "We are definitely talking about it. For sure." Matthews called it "breaking news."

"There's actual conversations happening?" he asked. "There's conversations to find the thing," Barrymore confirmed. "We're always, I think it's very script story specific, and yeah, we're actively seeking the right thing.

When something is labeled as "based on a true story," they tend to lean toward epic war heroes, an uplifting sports victory, or the doom and gloom of a gruesome murder. But that isn't always the case -- the likes of "The Farewell," "Van Wilder," and "Almost Famous" are exceptions to the rule. February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.

This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.
