Fatal Destination will launch in 2025.
It was one of a number of announcements from Warner Bros. Discovery U.S. networks chief Kathleen Finch at its upfronts.

The entire 400-episode catalog of true-crime unscripted series Forensic Files has been acquired by Content Partners.
Originally called Medical Detectives, the series ran for 14 seasons on TLC, Court TV and TruTV and repeats are still available on Warner Bros Discovery’s Hln. A revived version, Forensic Files II, has aired since 2020, first on Hln and now on Investigation Discovery. Since debuting in the wake of the O.J. CSI is partly owned by Content Partners.

In mid-May, with the writers strike still in its infancy, UTA partner and media rights co-head Jason Richman found himself trying to gauge the industry’s appetite for dealmaking. A few years earlier, indie studio A24 had scooped up the rights to his client David Gauvey Herbert’s 2021 Esquire article, “Daddy Ball,” but the option had lapsed, and he was eager to test the market. So, Richman sent around the 6,700-word piece, about two Little League dads with complicated pasts who took a deep rivalry way too far. In a matter of weeks, there were eight offers, some of them with major talent like Ben Stiller or Jason Bateman attached.
Netflix, which was already in business with Bateman via his Aggregate Films, ultimately proved triumphant, plunking down what multiple sources say was a staggering $2 million outright for the article. Bateman would not only direct but also star in what’s...

Amazon’s MGM Studios has won a competitive bidding war to adapt Vanity Fair’s story surrounding a Texas serial killer, titled “True Crime, True Faith: The Serial Killer and the Texas Mom Who Stopped Him,” according to media reports.
Published in this September’s issue, the piece by Julie Miller walks through the 1981 abduction of Texas mother Margy Palm by serial killer Stephen Morin outside of a Kmart during the holidays. Following her abduction, Palm discussed her religious faith with Morin, eventually convincing him to let her go.
While Morin was sentenced to jail time for the abduction, a friendly relationship lingered between the pair, leading to Palm to visit Morin in prison on over a dozen occasions with Morin sending cards to Palm. Their friendship clearly had a profound impact on Morin, as he converted to Christianity after his conviction, before eventually dying at the age of 34 in 1985 via lethal injection.

Exclusive: After circling rights for weeks to the buzzy Vanity Fair article “True Crime, True Faith: The Serial Killer and the Texas Mom Who Stopped Him,” Amazon MGM Studios has locked them down, Deadline understands.
Executive producer and production attachments on True Crime, True Faith are premature and cannot be confirmed at this time.
While certain buyers had been looking at developing the piece for film, it seems that the Amazon adaptation will be a series. Details have yet to emerge about creatives involved behind the camera, and of course, discussions on casting have not started given the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

The directorial debut from Juliet Landau, known to most of us as the demonic vampire, Drusilla in Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer is making its appearance in time for the Hallowe’en weekend. Landau has stuck to what she knows and what we expect by keeping with the vampire theme, but this time delving in to a more factual exploration of our current fascination with the undead. Landau plays herself in this pseudo-documentary, as she follows up on a serial murder case for her TV show, only to find out that the person behind these murders will lead her to confront her past demons in a society that so often keeps them hidden.
A Place Among the Dead has an almost Eraserhead quality to it, while not quite as jarring, there’s a certain bizarreness that is never really acknowledged; a feeling that you accept as part of the narrative.

Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service set to be available across the U.S. starting July 15, will be available on Google platforms and devices including Android, Android TVs, Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices at launch, the media company announced.
Under the pact, Android and Android TV users will receive complimentary access to Peacock Premium (with ads) through Oct. 15, 2020.
So far, NBCU has announced Peacock deals with Apple and Microsoft’s Xbox — but has not yet clinched deals with the two biggest over-the-top device players, Roku and Amazon Fire TV (which are both holding out on HBO Max).
In April, Peacock’s “early preview” rolled out to Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Flex customers at no additional cost.
On July 15, Peacock is set to launch wide in several versions: There’s a free, ad-supported tier featuring with more than 7,500 hours of movies, shows, and programming across news, sports, reality and late night.

True Crime isn’t a new fad, but in the last several years, thanks to buzzworthy podcasts and binge-worthy series (usually on Netflix), there’s been a considerable boom in the genre. More often than not, these entries fit into a formula – a cookie-cutter set-up and follow-through that, while often engrossing and even captivating, rarely treads […]

This I’ll Be Gone in the Dark review contains no spoilers.
True crime is an obsession more and more people share, with whole TV channels devoted to it, a whole raft of podcasts focused on it with more popping up every day and battalions of arm-chair detectives tapping away at Reddit threads from home.
While these sofa sleuths aren’t law enforcement and aren’t always privy to the full details of the case, sometimes they can’t make a real difference. The excellent podcast Bear Brook is one such example where genealogists manages to indenify a long lost victim. Netflix’s controversial doc Don’t F**k with Cats saw amateurs track down a man who tortured animals on camera who would upgrade to murder. But perhaps the most signficant, or certainly one of the most fascinating instances of serial killer obsession is Michelle McNamara and The Golden State Killer.

The late Michelle McNamara‘s bestselling True Crime book about the Golden State Killer gets the HBO docuseries treatment with I’ll Be Gone In the Dark. In the 1970s and ’80s, a killer prowled California, committing 50 home-invasion rapes and 12 murders and evading capture for years. Comcast and NBCUniversal are pushing Peacock out of the nest starting Wednesday, April 15, promising to unfurl a rich plume of 15,000-plus hours of streaming content, first for the cable giant’s own TV and internet customers.

Every killer has a mark — a signature move after their crime has been committed. Oxygen’s Season 2 premiere episode of “Mark of a Killer” looks into the signs left behind by serial killer Paul Stephani, also known as the Weepy-Voiced Killer.
“Mark of a Killer” details the investigation of the crimes through interviews with detectives who looked into the case. In terms of the Weepy-Voiced Killer, who got his name because of bizarre phone calls he’d make to law enforcement after the committed his murders, investigators called his crimes “vicious” and unlike anything they’d seen before.
Stephani killed four women in 1980 to 1982 in Minnesota and Wisconsin and would make phone calls to police after in a high-pitched and remorseful voice, saying he heard voices in his head and that he now wouldn’t ascend to heaven.

Harvey Weinstein has been rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pains.
The disgraced movie mogul was on his way to the infirmary at Rikers Island but was rerouted and taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Monday, a representative for Weinstein told Variety. His lawyer Donna Rotunno told USA Today that Weinstein was suffering from high blood pressure.

Clint Eastwood might end up with a lump of box office coal after “Richard Jewell” sputtered in its domestic debut. Despite critical acclaim, the drama about the security guard falsely accused by the media for playing a part in the 1996 Olympics bombing ignited with a dismal $5 million from 2,502 theaters.
It’s a disappointing result for Eastwood, marking one of the worst nationwide openings of the 89-year-old’s directorial career. His only movie to endure a worse fate was 1980’s “Bronco Billy” with $3.7 million. Should “Richard Jewell” come in ahead of expectations by even $200,000, that would propel it just barely above 1997’s “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” ($5.2 million) and 1999’s “True Crime” ($5.2 million) in terms of Eastwood’s inaugural outings.
“It started out with so much promise in terms of awards season buzz,” said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at Comscore. “You’ve got a really high-profile...

Serial killer Ted Bundy continues to fascinate the American public even decades after his execution. The latest demonstration of that comes with the popular success of the Netflix docuseries Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Joe Berlinger. The four-part series is now contending for Emmy nominations.
It’s by no means the first documentary examination of Bundy’s string of brutal sex crimes in the 1970s, a fact not lost on Berlinger.
“The bar is awfully high to do something on Bundy, because it’s a well-worn tire,” the director recalls thinking when he was first approached with the documentary idea. The pitch came from Stephen Michaud, co-author of the book Ted Bundy: Conversations with a Killer, who had recorded hours of interviews with Bundy in the 1980s while the convicted murderer sat on Florida’s death row. Hearing the audio convinced Berlinger to move forward.

NBC in March put a pin in its plans for Law & Order: Hate Crimes, the greenlighted 13-episode new Law & Order spinoff from the franchise’s creator Dick Wolf.
While the network abandoned plans to introduce the new series as a planted spinoff on an episode of Law & Order: Svu this season, the show, co-created by Wolf and one of his top lieutenants, former Law & Order: Svu showrunner Warren Leight, remained in active development.
Since then, Leight has returned as showrunner of Svu for its upcoming record-breaking Season 21.
“You can say how prolific Mr. Wolf is, not only on NBC,” NBC Entertainment co-chairman Paul Telegdy said during NBC’s upfronts call Sunday. “Law & Order: Hate Crimes is in ongoing development. I am very confident that it will happen one day.”

NBC is putting a pin in its plans for Law & Order: Hate Crimes, the greenlighted new Law & Order spinoff from the franchise’s creator Dick Wolf. Back in September, the network gave a 13-episode order to the project, which was supposed to be introduced as a planted spinoff from Law & Order: Svu in an episode during the latter part of the veteran drama’s current record-tying 20th season before launching next season.
That no longer will happen. Law & Order: Hate Crimes, co-created by Wolf and one of his top lieutenants, former Law & Order: Svu showrunner Warren Leight, remains in active development at the network as everyone needed more time to flesh out the concept. Svu has not been renewed yet but likely will be so it can break the record for the longest-running drama series jointly held by Gunsmoke and Law & Order, so the spinoff could be introduced during...

Netflix has picked up “Murder Mountain,” a true-crime murder-mystery documentary series from the team behind “Man on Wire” and “La 92.” The six-part series examines a series of murders that took place in a remote California community.
The Lightbox-produced series bowed on U.S. cable net Fuse earlier this year. Netflix has will launch it globally, including the U.S., as an original on Dec. 28.
The series is set in Humboldt County, California, where marijuana is the dominant local industry, and dozens of people have gone missing in the last few years – more than any other county in California.
“Murder Mountain” focuses on the disappearance of 29-year-old Garret Rodriguez in 2013. The investigation into his whereabouts, the producers said, exposes “a wild, lawless place.” The series shows Humboldt’s marijuana farms, both legal and illegal, and the farmers and dealers associated with the industry.

It was back in January 2016 when Netflix announced they would be cracking down on the use of VPNs with their service. While the vast majority of the 81.5million subscribers collectively shrugged their shoulders for some it was an unwelcome move, smacking of online censorship. Until this crackdown users were able to bypass geolocked content on the streaming platform by using a Virtual Private Network to tell Netflix they were in, say – the United States or Japan when in fact they were sitting with their feet up across the world in Hull. But Netflix were unhappy about this, and were determined to put a stop to it.

"We have a suspect - a crime writer..." "I think the book is your confession." Saban Films has released an official trailer for a dark crime thriller titled, of course, Dark Crimes. The title is a variation of the title for the original article this is based on in the New Yorker, called "True Crime", subtitle "A postmodern murder mystery." Dark Crimes stars Jim Carrey as a detective who gets involved in a case where a Polish author killed someone in real life the same way as in one of the fictional crime novels he wrote. Marton Csokas plays the author, and the cast includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kati Outinen, Vlad Ivanov, Agata Kulesza, Robert Wieckiewicz, and Piotr Glowacki. This loos quite dark and mysterious, but also quite good, I'm intrigued. Especially by Carrey's fierce, bearded performance in this. I really want to check it out.
