The twisted take on the childhood classic is written and directed by Scott Chambers, who produced the Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey films in addition to starring in the second installment as Christopher Robin.
In the British indie slasher, “Wendy Darling strikes out in an attempt to rescue her brother Michael from the clutches of the evil Peter Pan who intends to send him to Neverland. Along the way she meets a twisted Tinkerbell, who is hooked on what she thinks is fairy dust.”

That Roger Ebert was a tough one to figure out, especially when it came to his taste in comedies. While he loved some of the same Bill Murray movies that the rest of us find hilarious — Groundhog Day, Kingpin, the original Ghostbusters — he also had affection for oddities like Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties (a review that Ebert wrote in the voice of the cat who hates Mondays).
While Ebert gave Murray credit when credit was due, the critic also had no problem kicking the comic when he was down. Here are the three Murray comedies that Ebert hated the most…
1 Charlie’s Angels
Murray was slumming when he played Bosley in the 2000 reboot of Charlie’s Angels. While the action-comedy hit had an all-star cast, featuring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz alongside Murray, Ebert could only muster up half a star. “Charlie’s Angels is eye candy for the blind,...

Forty years ago this summer, a perfect storm of moviemaking elements came together with almost supernatural precision: SNL alums like Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray at the height of their popularity; director Ivan Reitman and co-writer Harold Ramis at the peak of their creativity; unexpectedly innovative and convincing VFX developed by Richard Edlund on a budget because Ilm was too busy; and a weathered and weary New York City that, still a decade out from “urban renewal,” proved a perfect backdrop for a comedy about working stiffs going into business.
All these elements and more seemed to capture lightning in a bottle at a specific time and place for one of the great American comedies. In retrospect, it seems almost impossible to duplicate. But that doesn’t mean there was a lack of trying. Despite Ghostbusters being a singularly deadpanned ‘80s comedy, the film has generated cartoon spinoffs, video games,...

Hulu is giving Shark Week a run for its money this July with not one but seven National Geographic specials dropping on the streaming service at the start of the month. Hulu also has a couple of fun offerings for adult animation fans with the full second season of Marvel’s Hit Monkey dropping on July 15 and Futurama returning for its 12th season on July 29th.
There’s not really anything notable in the way of original movies on Hulu this month, but Aliens, Step Brothers, and (500) Days of Summer are just a few of the noteworthy movies joining the library.
Here’s everything that’s coming to (and leaving) Hulu in July.

In cinemas now, Russell Crowe stars in his second exorcism movie in as many years, straightforwardly titled The Exorcism. (Read James’ review here!) With a certain TV season finale also involving demonic possession (see Q21!), this week’s film quiz includes some general knowledge movie questions, ramps up the crazy with a second round on demons, devils, and exorcists on screen, then settles back into another round of cinematic teasers.
Once you’ve completed all three rounds, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. As always, this is all just for fun, but please let us know how you did in the comments (scores out of 30 this week!) and give us any other lovely feedback. And if you don’t like it,...

If you’re a fan of true crime documentaries or early millennium classic cartoons then boy does Hulu’s list of new releases have some great news for you!
Hulu continues its implicit understanding that streaming services are basically true crime distribution machines this month with a trio of intriguing titles. While it’s not necessarily true crime per se, The Ashley Madison Affair about the notorious dating platform premieres on July 7. That will be followed by Betrayal: The Perfect Husband on July 11, which is based on a compelling podcast of the same name. The Jewel Thief arrives on July 13 to provide an account of Gerald Blanchard, one of history’s most creative criminals.
But where does the cartoon excitement comes in? Well, that’s because season 11 of Matt Groening’s beloved Futurama premieres on July 24. Fry, Leela, the Professor, and Bender will all return for a direct continuation of...

Exactly 50 years to the date of David Bowie’s final performance as Ziggy Stardust, digitally restored footage of the performance will be shown at the very venue where it happened. On July 3rd, 2023, London’s Eventim Apollo Hammersmith will host a screening of the 1979 concert film Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture, now restored in 4K.
Known as the Odeon back in 1973, the Eventim Appolo Hammersmith will roll out the red carpet to commemorate Ziggy Stardust’s legacy, welcoming a fleet of some of his frequent collaborators and musical successors for an on-stage panel ahead of the screening.
The restoration of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture also contains famed guitarist Jeff Beck’s performance scenes, which were cut from its original iteration. Shot by filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker, the new version — complete with 5.1 sound — revitalized stellar onstage antics along with candid backstage...

Given five minutes and a rock orchestra, which David Bowie would you be? Jake Shears dashes and gyrates across the Festival Hall stage in a glittery jumpsuit to “Watch That Man”, every inch the glam-pop starman. Anna Calvi, the grand dame, expands into the austere Gallic elegance of “Lady Grinning Soul”. Battersea’s Tawiah finds the plastic soul of vaudevillian oompah classic “The Prettiest Star”. And Lynks – sashaying through the moral detritus of “Cracked Actor” in fashionista head-mask and a sci-fi outfit that could only be described as glam-gimp – sets out to encapsulate Bowie the alien art god.
It’s only the rock orchestra, really, that holds them back. This full performance of Bowie’s sixth album has been reinterpreted by the Nu Civilisation Orchestra for the Southbank’s Aladdin Sane: 50 Years anniversary season, and somewhat misses the point of the thing. Bowie himself undersold the record by calling it...

What's not to love about a goofy spy comedy movie that interweaves action and espionage satire? Spy comedy films as a subgenre are fun to watch any day of the week in order to unwind with some good laughs, while also filling the need for some action and fight scenes. Some famous spies were groovy, goofy, or inept, but almost all of them are certifiably deadly (even if a good deal only manage to complete their mission through slapstick mishaps). Some parody spies like Austin Powers and Johnny English are almost as famous as the James Bonds and Jason Bournes they lambast, too.
A good spy comedy isn't hard to come by. There are plenty that ticks off all necessary criteria. The satirical and outlandish comedy, the needed action sequences, and some foolish plot elements. But not all spy comedies are tagged with high rankings. Spy comedy films come in...

James Franco is set to star in action thriller Mace from The Singing Detective helmer Jon Amiel.
The title, which is the first production from Meyers Media Group, follows the story of two very different kinds of cops. Mace (Franco) is a veteran officer, corrupt and dangerously unhinged, while Virgil Woods is a young rookie who believes that he can change the system that fosters cops like Mace from within. Inspired by the racial injustice on the streets of America, Woods refuses to be bullied and pits his principles against the amoral Mace, risking everything he believes in to stop Mace from destroying the city when Mace unleashes a gang war to cover up his crimes.
Amiel directs from a script written by David Chisholm while Lawrence Steven Meyers, Randy Dannenberg and John Evangelides will produce. Brendan McDonald and Kirk D’Amico will serve as exec producer with Jonathan Tybel as an associate producer.

With the holiday season in full swing, Netflix is beefing up its cache of classic films to watch from the comfort of your couch this December.
Kicking off the start of the month is a much-needed visit from The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” alongside classics “Friday” (get ready to say farewell to Felicia all over again), “8 Mile,” featuring Eminem’s most quotable rap battle, “Hellboy,” and — to lighten the mood — the classic tear-jerker love story “One Day.”
Dropping on Christmas Day are crowd-pleasers “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Roma,” and the 11th season of “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.” The story of the King of Pop unfolds on Dec. 10 with “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” and a few more holiday flicks emerge with “Reindeer Games,” “Free Rein: The Twelve Neighs of Christmas” and “5 Star Christmas.” A slew of Netflix Originals are also joining the streaming slate including “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle,...

Just in time for the holiday season, Netflix has unveiled a host of classics to keep you cozy throughout those long, cold nights. As Oscar season gears up, there are plenty of excellent films on offer in theaters, but nothing beats staying on the couch with an old classic. As the streaming giant enters the Oscar race with “Roma,” viewers will have a chance to see Alfonso Cuarón’s epic, though this one really deserves to be seen on the big screen.
Old standby comedies like “The Big Lebowski” and “Shaun of the Dead” should get you through the holidays with your family, and Yorgos Lanthimos fans can revisit “The Lobster” after seeing what the daring Greek auteur does with “The Favourite.” Guillermo del Toro fans rejoice, “Hellboy” is also hitting the streaming waves in December.

Let's get one thing straight before we begin. Bill Murray is the King. There are better actors. There are people who have better filmographies. There are even funnier people, although not many. But Bill Murray is, all things, considered, the King. I've dedicated much of the last 45 years working this out scientifically, and I am prepared to finally share the findings with you, free of charge, right here at HitFix. Ostensibly, we're doing this because of this weekend's release of "Rock The Kasbah," but that's just an excuse. The truth is that it's important that we rank all 55 of Bill Murray's film performances, with a special focus on the top 25. We are not including his television work here. There are films on this list we have not seen, but not many. We decided to leave those films unranked, so here is that list: Unranked "The Hat Act" "Pass The Buck: Expo '74...

Bill Murray became a movie star 35 years ago this week, upon the release of "Meatballs" on June 29, 1979. His lead role as the head counselor at a sub-par summer camp marked a number of firsts: his first of four movies with director Ivan Reitman (the others were "Stripes" and the two "Ghostbusters"), his first of six movies with writer Harold Ramis (the four Reitman films, plus "Caddyshack" and "Groundhog Day"), and his first taste of mega-stardom beyond his TV fame on "Saturday Night Live."
Since then, his career has taken on a trajectory unique in the history of film, one in which he's gone from comic goofball to dramatic thespian, from universally beloved to acquired taste, and from manic cynic to soft-spoken spiritual seeker. Through it all, however, there have been a few constants; no matter whether he's a grubby groundskeeper or a morose mogul: Murray's character is always the coolest...

For this list, blame The Hangover Part III. It was whilst walking out of that film that I got into a chat with someone, who was bemoaning the lack of genuinely funny movie comedies. Certainly, big budget Hollywood comedies have no end of problems right now - with the occasional exception - but I couldn't help thinking of the many neglected gems that had gone through my DVD player over the past decade or so.
As such, I started to put this list together. It's inevitably subjective, as one person's comedy is another person's snore fest. But I've tried to dig out a mix of comedies from the past three decades that have either flown under the radar completely, or...

As such, I started to put this list together. It's inevitably subjective, as one person's comedy is another person's snore fest. But I've tried to dig out a mix of comedies from the past three decades that have either flown under the radar completely, or...

With the release of "Lost in Translation" ten years ago, everyone was finally forced to take Bill Murray seriously. Even the Academy finally noticed him and gave him a Best Actor nomination, the only one he's received so far.
By this time, he'd been paring down his craft for 30 years until, with the help of directors like "Translation"'s Sofia Coppola and "Rushmore"'s Wes Anderson, he'd achieved a kind of Zen purity. After that, he could choose to play the smartass clown (as in his early roles) or the serious thespian, or somewhere in between. With no agent and plenty of savings, he could pick and choose projects at whim and do only what he felt like doing. So even his lesser movies seemed like labors of love; after all, there must have been something personally appealing to him in those roles to coax him off the golf course.

In 2003, William James Murray (better known to those who haven't spent hours reading his Wikipedia page as Bill Murray) starred in Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation," a poignant, somber romantic comedy that spotlighted the budding relationship between an aging film star (Murray) and the lonely wife of a photographer (Scarlett Johansson) in Tokyo. Murray was nominated for an Oscar for said performance, but he ultimately lost to Sean Penn's turn in "Mystic River."
At one point, he also did the Garfield movies.
But herein lies the massive injustice. Bill Murray should have been nominated for an Academy Award for every other movie he's done. There. We said it. The following is a comprehensive list of Murray movies where the Academy unconscionably overlooked his performance, starting from the very beginning of his illustrious career.
'Meatballs' (1979)

In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Dan Aykroyd confirmed that Bill Murray will not be a part of a movie that's never going to happen, Ghostbusters III. Thank God. Anyone who's actually taken a peek at what Aykroyd had in mind for a third movie knows it isn't pretty. But that's not really the point. The point is that Bill Murray, who knows full well that his involvement would most likely ensure that Ghostbusters 3 would become a reality, passed. Why wouldn't Murray want this to happen? Even just to help out his old pal Aykroyd? The answer is: "Because Bill Murray isn't stupid." Yes, let's, for a few minutes, get into the mind of Bill Murray. Murray, today, enjoys his life as an enigma - gallivanting around the world, while, professionally, only accepting the roles that he happens to find interesting. Yes, this sounds nice. The thing is,...

National Treasure franchise director Jon Turtletaub is about to jump in the directors chair for a sumo wrestling comedy set up at Paramount Pictures called A Matter of Size. The movie is a remake of a 2009 Israeli comedy, and the script will be written by Howard Franklin (The Man Who Knew Too Little).
The movie is described as a character-driven comedy "about a group of overweight people who become sumo wrestlers." Why the hell not? It sounds like there are a lot of fun comedic elements that can be thrown into a story revolving around this plot. I haven't seen or even heard of the original movie, but this remake could end up being something that audiences might enjoy.
Turtletaub has also directed films such as The Sorcerer's Apprentice, 3 Ninjas, Cool Runnings, and more. It seems like this fits perfectly with the kinds of films he was making earlier in his career.

2011 comedy movie The Big Year has some heavy hitters in the laughs department — Steve Martin (Three Amigos), Jack Black (Gulliver’s Travels) and Owen Wilson (Hall Pass) — but failed to wow critics and audiences.
In the film, Martin, Black and Wilson are each facing a mid-life crisis, a work-life crisis and a no-life crisis. Avid bird watchers, they join a contest to spot the rarest birds in North America at a prestigious annual event, but for them, the quest turns into the ultimate competition.

The first teaser poster and trailer for director David Frankel's (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me) upcoming comedy, The Big Year, have debuted online. Adapted from Mark Obmascik's 1998 novel The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession by Howard Franklin (The Man Who Knew Too Little), The Big Year stars Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black as a trio of friendly rivals going through a "mid-life crisis," a "work-life crisis" and a "no-life crisis," respectively, who decide to shuck their responsibilities and dedicate a year of their lives to racing around North America in a contest to see who can spot the greatest number of bird species.

Here’s a joke: Jack Black, Steve Martin, and Owen Wilson all walk onto a movie set, working with Marley & Me director David Frankel and The Man Who Knew Too Little screenwriter Howard Franklin on The Big Year, an adaptation of Mark Obmascik’s 1998 book, “The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession.”
The punchline? You get a movie that truly looks like the sum of its parts, if the official Big Year trailer is anything to go by.
Big Year stars Black, Martin, and Wilson as three men in difficult stages of their life: Black is unemployed and has little ambition, Wilson is suffering from a mid-life crisis, and Martin is struggling to figure out how to spend his remaining years, since he is now retired. All three men eventually decide to leave their regular lives behind ...

Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson starring in a comedy about bird watchers who compete with each other to spot the rarest bird? I was sold before I even watched the first trailer for The Big Year. Then I watched the trailer... and now, not so much. If you're wondering how a funny cast and quirky premise could be watered down to such boring, bland humour, just take a look at the director's previous credits: David Frankel is the man who gave us The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me. The Big Year is clearly being aimed at an older crowd, but a part of me still hopes that this trailer is not a true indication of what the movie has to offer. It's based on a book by Mark Obmascik and the screenplay was written by Howard Franklin (The Man Who Knew Too Little, Quick Change). With a...

The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me director David Frankel has a new comedy coming out later this year that centers around an energetic subculture: bird watchers. Ok, perhaps not so energetic. The Big Year stars Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black, all of whom are competing in an annual bird-watching event. As a drama it might not be riveting stuff, but as a comedy there's potential. See the first full image of the three leads below. [1] The Big Year has a solid supporting cast: Jim Parsons, Rosamund Pike, Rashida Jones, Joel McHale, and Anjelica Huston. Howard Franklin (Someone to Watch Over Me, The Man Who Knew Too Little) adapted the script from Mark Obmascik's 2004 book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession. Fox will open the film on October 14. Three avid bird watchers compete to spot the rarest birds in North America at a prestigious annual event.

Can Pixar deliver again, or is Cars 2 the firm's first genuine disappointment? Ron has been finding out...
Cars 2 feels like an exercise in excess and an apology from Pixar to their Disney friends. “Dear Disney, sorry we made a half-silent movie about a robot, and we're very sorry we made a movie about an old man and a fat kid who fly in a house-balloon. I know you love toy sales, and those movies weren't exactly selling tons of dolls. So, to make it up for you, here's Cars 2. It's like Cars, but with even More toy potential!”
This time, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) has just won the Piston Cup again, and now he's ready to kick up his wheels, relax with girlfriend Sally (Bonnie Hunt) and spend his lazy days with his best pal Mater (Larry the Cable Guy).
Unfortunately, after a very-public calling-out from hotshot...

There's something beginning with "u" in the trailer for the espionage sequel resurrecting Rowan Atkinson's character from the defunct Barclaycard ad campaign. Is it "unwanted"? "Unwatchable"? Or "unexpectedly hilarious"?
Thank goodness Johnny English is back. His first effort was perhaps everyone's favourite spy spoof. After Austin Powers, of course. And Austin Powers 2. And the first Casino Royale. And The Man Who Knew Too Little. And Get Smart. And The Silencers. And Austin Powers 3. So, to be more accurate, Johnny English was everyone's eighth-favourite spy spoof or – if you're feeling particularly generous – everyone's first-favourite spy spoof starring Rowan Atkinson as a character from an old Barclaycard ad campaign.
And that means this year's Johnny English Reborn is set to go down as everyone's favourite unnecessary and unwanted sequel to a spy spoof starring Rowan Atkinson as a character from an old Barclaycard ad campaign. But what is Johnny English Reborn about?...

This post goes out to my girlfriend, it’s got everything she likes- The Today Show, Steve Carrel, Tina Fey, Date Night the movie and the date night when we inevitably see the movie. I do think the movie looks entertaining but I also own The Man Who Knew Too Little on DVD so I’m a sucker for “not who you think I am” comedies I just usually rent them, after all how does the big screen enhance “you’ve got us confused with someone else!” *stepping down from soapbox. So Tina Fey of NBC’s best comedy 30 Rock and Steve Carrel of NBC’s former best comedy The Office were on NBC’s Today this morning, did any of you see this? Probably not and that’s why you’re here! For this-
I would love for you to share your date night plans to see Date Night with your significant other!

For a little while now, Dustin Hoffman has been attached to star opposite Jack Black and Owen Wilson in the comedy The Big Year, an adaptation of Mark Obmascik's book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession. But now THR reports that Steve Martin, fresh off last weekend's stint as co-host of the Academy Awards, is in negotiations to take over the lead role instead of Hoffman in the story of three men who try to outdo each other in a bird-watching competition to spot the rarest birds in North America. The rivalry is an allegory for the challenges each faces in his own life. Oh, fancy movies and their allegories! The new comedy "Big Year" is set to start shooting in late May in Canada and for some time has had Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman set to star in the story about 3 men engaged in a bird watching competition (yes, you read that right) trying to spot one of the world's rarest birds.
However, there seems to be a line up change.
It's now being reported that Oscar host, Steve Martin, is stepping in to replace Dustin Hoffman in the film. No official explanation has been given at this point.

Steve Martin is in talks to join Jack Black and Owen Wilson in Marley & Me/The Devil Wears Prada helmer David Franke's bird-watching comedy The Big Year. Martin's role was originally set to be played by Dustin Hoffman. The film is based on Mark Obmascik's 2004 book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession which chronicles three top contenders in the 1998 American Big Year: one of the wackiest competitions in the Us, where hundreds of bird watchers compete with the hopes of spotting the most species during the course of a year. The screenplay was adapted by Antitrust/The Man Who Knew Too Little scribe Howard Franklin. Here is the official description from the book: Every year on January 1, a quirky crowd of adventurers storms out across North America for a spectacularly competitive event called a Big Year -- a grand, grueling, expensive, and occasionally vicious,...

Part ghost story, part psychological thriller, part heart-wrenching love story, Creation is the story of Charles Darwin and the single most explosive idea in history. This is a brand new trailer that I'm very excited to share with you today, as I didn't even realize this had even started shooting and yet it looks incredible. Paul Bettany stars as naturalist Charles Darwin and Jennifer Connelly as his wife Emma Darwin along with Toby Jones. In our experience, dear readers, Alfred Molina is a lovely man. Yet for some reason the Brit actor is most memorable on-screen as a villain, from Satipo in Raiders Of The Lost Ark to Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 and, erm, Boris ‘The Butcher’ Blavasky in The Man Who Knew Too Little. And now he’s about to add another blackheart to that list, after signing on to star alongside Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel in Disney’s The Sorceror’s Apprentice.Cage and Baruchel have, of course, been cast in the Jon Turteltaub-directed, Jerry Bruckheimer-produced movie for quite a while, but today details finally emerged of the plot.Cage will play a sorceror named Balthazar Blake, who takes Baruchel’s college student under his wing and teaches him everything he knows. Molina will play the evil wizard, Horvath, who’s presumably up to no good, as is an evil wizard’s wont.

Why should you buy the soundtracks of Christopher Young? Well, for instance the music is quite good on some of them. And if you want to have more fun with the release, check out the tracklisting. You're bound to find somehing along the lines of "Accelerated Brundle Disease" or "Dancing With a Wet Handkerchief on Your Mother's Grave". But wait, there's more! The CD of Hush for intance contains the following titles: "Hush", "Little Baby", "Don't You Cry", "Mama's Gonna Buy", "You", "A". It's all fun. If you pay close attention, you might also find that several Young releases contain pun homages to famous composers as well. Below I've gathered all I could find, now it's up to you to guess which composers are referenced in the track titles. I might add that some of them are only guesses and I couldn't find references some of Young's biggest works...
