According to DVD commentary, several of the writers are fans of his show and have incorporated mentions in certain episodes. "Baba booey" is used several times as a joke, including the season 4 credits where Khandi Alexander as Catherine draws the words over a picture of Bill McNeil's face. Also, in an early season 4 episode, Dave explains that, even though Matthew won employee of the month, the majority actually voted for "Baba booey". In Jackass Junior High (1998), a member of the tour group asks if WNYX is the station where Howard Stern works. Jumper (1997) has Lisa suggesting that if the suicidal Jon Lovitz character were rescued by Janet Reno in a blimp, they could beat Howard Stern's ratings.
