Back in the day, when the likes of Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and Harrison Ford were ruling Hollywood’s cinematic industry with their outstanding performances, Mel Gibson made sure he was one of the names counted among those A-listers as well. Within a few years of making his professional acting debut through The Sullivans, he earned his breakthrough with Mad Max.
Since then, he went on to score roles among numerous masterpieces, further cementing himself as a household name and establishing his reputation as one of the most admirable actors in the entertainment industry. If anything, in his prime, Gibson pulled off some really iconic wonders as he not only became the recipient of some major awards but also had some epic salary highlights.

Micheal Shannon rejected Star Wars? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Yes, in regards to this offer, Michael Shannon said, “I don’t find them interesting,” Shannon declared, shutting down any galaxy far, far away dreams. Fresh off the post-Force Awakens frenzy, Shannon was reportedly offered a part in the next wave of Star Wars movies.
But unlike most actors who’d leap at hyperspace-level stardom, Shannon kept his feet firmly planted on Earth. “I’m always a bit wary about those giant movies,” he alluded. “They take a lot of time, and I don’t find them very stimulating to work on.”
Ouch. Micheal Shannon wasn’t just wary of time-consuming blockbusters. He was flat-out uninterested in perpetuating what he called “mindless entertainment.” In his words: “The world doesn’t need more mindless entertainment. We’re inundated with it.” For a franchise known for space battles and endless merch, that probably hit like a Death Star laser.

Steven Spielberg Called Tom Cruise ‘Cinema Savior’ After Top Gun: Maverick (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)
2023 Oscars luncheon, Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise lock eyes, and Spielberg goes full throttle. He tells Cruise, “You saved Hollywood’s ass, and you might’ve saved theatrical distribution. Top Gun: Maverick could’ve saved the whole industry!” And honestly? He nailed it. Maverick didn’t just crush the box office—it brought the movie theater buzz back to life.
Cruise pushed Paramount to keep the flick out of streaming’s clutches, waiting for theaters to return. It landed harder than a fighter jet when it finally hit in May 2022. Nearly $1.5 billion worldwide later, it became Cruise’s most prominent film ever.
Spielberg’s praise isn’t just fanboying—it’s facts. Hollywood was on shaky ground post-pandemic, with theaters struggling and studios betting on streaming. Then Maverick came in hot, reminding everyone why the big screen still matters.

Streaming services have taken a giant leap ever since millions of users found their way to Netflix and other platforms. After 2020, people had forgotten the theater experience of watching a movie.

Why Did Patrick Stewart Almost Turn Down The Role Of Professor X? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Sir Patrick Stewart almost turned down the role of Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men—and it’s all thanks to Star Trek. In the late ’90s, Stewart was a well-established sci-fi icon, having played Jean-Luc Picard in The Next Generation. But, when Bryan Singer pitched him the role of Professor X for the X-Men movie, Stewart had doubts. His main concern? He didn’t want to be stuck playing two similar roles.
According to Screen Rant, Stewart wondered, “Would the audiences get confused? Would I get confused?” At the time, he avoided the overlap between Picard’s calm, composed leadership and Xavier’s cerebral, authoritative persona. Stewart almost passed on the role, thinking his Star Trek stint was enough sci-fi for one lifetime. But Singer wasn’t having it. He reassured Stewart that the only...

Austin Butler’s Bold Decision To Turn Down Top Gun: Maverick (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Austin Butler wasn’t feeling the need for speed. When he got the opportunity to join Top Gun: Maverick, he opted instead for a trip down Quentin Tarantino’s Hollywood Boulevard. “I don’t want to do that,” Butler said. Big gamble, right? But it paid off big time.
Flashback to 2018: Tom Cruise was already teasing Maverick in May, while Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood started filming later that summer. Both projects were buzzing, but Butler had to choose. He rolled the dice and, well, hit the jackpot.
Fast-forward to today, and it’s safe to say Butler’s Hollywood map didn’t need fighter jets. Tarantino himself couldn’t stop raving about Top Gun: Maverick. “I f—ing love Top Gun: Maverick,” he alluded on the ReelBlend podcast. He called it...

The first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman premiered and showed audiences a preview of the new Man of Steel film set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
Gunn previewed the trailer for the press earlier in the week, saying that the movie was about “kindness” and “a movie about being good.”
“I believe in the goodness of human beings, and I believe that most people in this country despite their ideological beliefs or politics are doing their best to get by and are trying to be good people despite what it might seem like to the other side or what that other side might be, and I think this movie is about that,” Gunn said.

Grifters and con artists might be the shadiest characters on TV, but damn, do we love them.
Whether they’re pulling off elaborate heists, spinning lies so smoothly you’d believe every word, or charming their way out of trouble, these hustlers turn deception into an art form.
They might bend the rules (and occasionally break a few laws), but their wit, charm, and unpredictable antics keep us hooked every time.
(Fox/Screenshot)
With clever schemes and magnetic personalities, they blur the line between hero and antihero, leaving us wondering if we’d root for them or fall for their cons ourselves.
TV just wouldn’t be the same without these masters of mischief keeping us on our toes.
So, who are the greatest grifters ever to grace the small screen? Let’s find out.

Ubisoft has not yet confirmed Far Cry 7. Prior reports indicate that the next game is being developed alongside a Far Cry multiplayer game, currently under development under the codename Maverick, which is an extraction-based shooter. Along with it, there is another title in the franchise that is reported to be in development, codenamed Blackbird, which is going to be the next mainline title.

However, no one knows when we will be getting some hints about these two titles, but all we know right now is that their release dates have been pushed back from 2025 to 2026, according to credible reports. This comes after the saddening shutdown of XDefiant, which failed to build a substantial player base. Not only it is pushing the release date, but the upcoming titles might also be pushing away the old Far Cry formulas as well.

One of my favourite conspiracy theories involves people questioning whether Tom Cruise has ever actually seen a movie. I mean, I’m sure he has… right? He must have… The man loves movies. All kidding aside, Tom Cruise is always down to support the big-screen experience, and he recently joined the cast of A Complete Unknown at a special screening in London. Movies are a source of entertainment, yet when you add in the concepts of ‘budget’ and ‘money,’ they are rather a gamble to make. In the last few decades, the cost of making films has ballooned, reaching unimaginable levels, especially in franchises and superhero cinema. Given how movies like Godzilla Minus One, made against a meager budget, can still succeed and go on to win an Oscar, these skyrocketing costs really make one wonder if these films are worth the risk.

A few days ago, The Hollywood Reporter published a story saying that in addition to developing another "Top Gun" sequel, Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is "exploring a follow-up" to "Days of Thunder," the 1990 racing movie he starred in for director Tony Scott. At a glance, you can see how that decision might make sense: 2022's "Top Gun: Maverick," another decades-later sequel to a Cruise-Scott collaboration, was a gigantic box office hit, so naturally Cruise is interested in revisiting his old characters, like NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, to see if there's any more gold to mine from them. Currently, there are no writers, directors, or other stars attached, so this is very much a "Cruise wants to do it" type of story, and there's nothing set in stone quite yet.
But there are a few reasons a "Days of Thunder" sequel may not make a ton of sense in 2025 or beyond.

It's been a big week in Hollywood for very famous men contemplating how they want to make the cars go fast (vroom vroom vroom), as Tom Cruise has reportedly starting musing on the possibility of a sequel to his 1990 "Cars have big engine, go in circle" film Days Of Thunder.

The rise of demand for racing films has grown significantly higher over the past few years and Tom Cruise is reportedly contemplating making a sequel to 1990’s Days of Thunder. It’s a good idea, though, because he was able to bring back the nostalgia of the Top Gun franchise into the fold again.

One interesting angle fans can look into this prospect is that he and his ex-wife Nicole Kidman could make history by costarring again in the potential sequel. They notably met and fell in love on the set of Days of Thunder, so seeing them work together again on the big screen would certainly interest the viewers.

Tom Cruise is looking to make a sequel to another of his action classics, and it’s not one that you’d expect.
The actor is talking to Paramount about a follow-up to his 1990 NASCAR racing film Days of Thunder.
On its surface, the idea seems rather bold. Thunder wasn’t considered a box office hit upon its release (making $157 million globally with a production budget of $60 million), and the film received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. But having revived and modernized 1986’s Top Gun with 2022’s blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, the actor believes he can work similar magic with his racing drama (which, like the original Top Gun, was a Paramount film produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Tony Scott). A Thunder revival has been floated before — Paramount once pitched a reboot of the title as a TV show for Paramount+, an idea that Cruise nixed.

Tom Cruise is the biggest movie star in Hollywood (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Tom Cruise is still Hollywood’s ultimate blockbuster machine, and at 61, he’s proving that age is just a number. Whether pulling off wild bike stunts in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning or going all-in on action sequences with zero safety net, Cruise reminds everyone why he’s the biggest movie star. In a world where CGI dominates, Cruise keeps it old school—willing to risk it all for the real deal. But getting here wasn’t always a smooth ride.
After a five-year break, Cruise came roaring back. Between Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Top Gun: Maverick, he faced personal drama and a few flops. Most stars would’ve disappeared into the background. Not Cruise. He returned with a bang, mingling with the aristocracy and preparing for his biggest hit to date at Cannes. Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing film happened only because the director was able to convey the emotional core of the film to the actor in 20 minutes. When Joe Kosinski approached Cruise for Top Gun: Maverick, he knew that a sequel wouldn’t be at the top of the mind for the Mission: Impossible actor. However, Kosinski’s pitch impressed Cruise, who immediately greenlit the film.

Jodie Foster's career has been famously wild. As a child, she appeared in lightweight Disney films like "Napoleon and Samantha" and "Freaky Friday," while also taking the world by surprise playing an underage sex worker in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver." Throughout the 1980s, she successfully continued acting as she grew, appearing in films like "Foxes," "The Hotel New Hampshire," and "The Accused," for which she won her first Academy Award. In 1991, Foster won her second Oscar for playing FBI cadet Clarice Starling in Jonathan Demme's bleak serial killer thriller "The Silence of the Lambs," one of the few films to win "The Big Five" Oscars. That same year, Foster made her directorial debut with the child-prodigy drama "Little Man Tate."
From then on, Foster was a Hollywood staple, leading multiple high-profile studio dramas like "Maverick," Robert Zemeckis' "Contact," and "Anna and the King." She also worked with...

60 years ago this September, Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name stepped on screen for the first time in Sergio Leone's "A Fistful of Dollars." It would be a few more years until the low-budget Spaghetti Western made it to America, but the actor's star power and the director's talents were instantly recognizable for early adopters – even if critics took longer to get on board. By the time Leone had released two more Eastwood-led films, rounding out what became known as the Dollars Trilogy, Eastwood's narrowed eyes and steely attitude had become a fundamental image of the movie cowboy.
The Dollars trilogy, which continued with "For A Few Dollars More" and concluded in 1966 with "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," is now celebrated as one of the best on-screen Western sagas of all time. The genre would...

Few films have managed to do what Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick did. Even though Top Gun was released decades before the 2022 film came around, it managed to outshine the original’s success, not only earning an Academy Award nomination but also finding a timeless place in popular culture.

One of the main reasons for the project’s success was that it brought back actors who were key players in the 1986 film. With this, one cannot help but wonder why Meg Ryan wasn’t among them, even though it could have done a lot for both, the film, and her professional life.
During an interview, the director of the film, Joseph Kosinski, revealed the reason why some actors from the past weren’t brought back, and the answer is quite unfortunate for Ryan.

The story was clear and director Joseph Kosinski had already mapped out the blueprint. The emotional core of the film would stay intact via the characters and the action would elevate the rest of the theatrical experience into an epic one.

Tony Scott's 1986 navy recruitment film "Top Gun" was released in the middle of the Reagan administration: a time when the American military was being venerated in mainstream pop entertainment and sold as a badass, action-loving fighting force. The sadness and pain of the Vietnam War was being deliberately eschewed in favor of highly varnished machismo, and many movies depicted American soldiers as endlessly capable violence machines. It's how we went from the downbeat and tragic "First Blood" to the chest-pounding jingoism of "Rambo: First Blood Part II" in just three years. "Top Gun" depicted the world's coolest naval jet pilots as they trained to become the best, and took on a mysterious enemy military hailing from an unnamed nation.
To stress the pilots' coolness, "Top Gun" starred the dazzling movie giant Tom Cruise as Peter "Maverick" Mitchell and the equally dazzling Val Kilmer as his rival, Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.

Claudio Miranda, the Oscar-winning cinematographer who is shooting Joseph Kosinski’s Apple Original Film “F1,” worked with Sony Electronics to develop a custom camera to film high-speed shots of Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and additional cast members and stunt drivers on Formula One racetracks.
For his prior collaboration with Kosinski on “Top Gun: Maverick,” Miranda used another new Sony development, the Rialto system, which effectively untethers the body of the camera from the sensor to create a device that could be mounted in small spaces such as aircraft cockpits to capture the feel of being in the aircraft.
To put a camera in a race car with Brad Pitt, who plays Formula One driven Sonny Hayes and was also a producer on the movie, this needed to be even more compact. Miranda tells Variety that on “Maverick,” excepting Tom Cruise, “the actors didn’t fly the aircraft. On Formula One,...

Before "Gilligan's Island," comedian Alan Hale, Jr. had a prolific, decades-long career on stage and screen. He made his stage debut in 1931 at the age 10, began a very busy film career in 1941, and made multiple films a year throughout the 1950s. He played the title characters in both the 1953 adventure series "Biff Baker, U.S.A." and the 1957 Western "Casey Jones." He was a regular visitor of "The Gene Autry Show," and had guest spots in many of the more popular TV shows of the day. He was in "Maverick," "Bonanza," "The Untouchables," "Gunsmoke," and "Rawhide." There was, it seemed, nothing he couldn't do.
Hale was reported always friendly and affable, and it was his affability that landed him the role of Jonas Grumby, aka The Skipper, on Sherwood Schwartz's 1964 sitcom "Gilligan's Island." The Skipper had to be the outraged, wrathful friend of the bumbling title character, but also...

But while in the case of Top Gun 2, the difficulties stemmed from the prolonged period of training, the opposite was the case for Whiplash, which shot him to prominence.

The Russo Brothers are making it back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they picked up Robert Downey Jr. on the way. July ended with a bang after it was revealed that our favorite Rdj would be returning to the superhero universe but as Doctor Doom this time. Of course, the news was met with mixed reactions from fans. While some were elated to have him back, others believed that the Marvel Studios were using the nostalgia card to sell a film.
