When the movie was released in Sweden in 1992 it used the Swedish title of "När toffelfabriken tystnar" which (roughly) translates into "Silence of the Slippers Factory" trying to cash in on Anthony Hopkins' success with The Silence of the Lambs (1991) ("När lammen tystnar"). The translated title also makes the mistake of using the word "slippers" instead of "moccasins" that the factory in the movie actually manufactures.
Spotswood (1991) grossed $1,505,884 at the box office in Australia, which is equivalent to $2,348,887 in 2009 dollars.
This movie has also been released under the title "Spotswood," the name of the Melbourne suburb in which this movie is set.
Spotswood (1991) was the feature-film debut for well-known character actor Dan Wyllie who played Carey's friend who set him up for the blind date, Frank Fletcher.
