After making huge waves out of last year’s Toy Fair, Trick or Treat Studios is at the annual Halloween Party Expo to share a handful of new products slated for 2025.

While John Squires unveils some of the more horror-related goodies, I’m excited to share a first look at Trick or Treat’s “Fallout” masks, which are just the first in a major line that will include power armor helmet replicas, Halloween decor, weapon replicas, and so much more.

These “Retro” masks are made of hard plastic that can be placed over the front of the face, while the regular “Vault Boy/Girl” masks will be vinyl whole-head masks.

Halloween may seem like a million miles away here in the first weeks of 2025, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start looking ahead. In fact, the annual Halloween Party Expo just kicked off in Vegas this week, North America’s premiere event for Halloween, party and celebration!

One of the 120+ exhibitors packed into the World Market Center space is Trick or Treat Studios, and they’re previewing a whole bunch of brand new products for this Halloween.

Of particular note for Terrifier fans, Trick or Treat Studios lets us know that a 12″ version of their previously released 5″ Art the Clown figure is coming soon, expected to release this summer. The supersized vinyl figure will come in a beautiful window box display, and also includes Art’s hacksaw accessory. Trick or Treat tells us that the figure will retail for $49.99.

Horror is a tricky genre, where it's hard to impress and effectively send shivers down the spine of all audiences and critics, and plenty of horror films from the 1990s prove this. Though the '90s is a year generally looked at as having some of the best and most influential films within the horror genre, there were a handful of films that earned a divided response from critics. More often than not, the films with the biggest divide between critics were those that combined horror with comedy.

Though it is possible to create a successful mix of the two genres, plenty of films fail in the eyes of critics, as divisive horror comedies tend to inadequately prioritize one genre over the other. Many of these films have earned cult followings and the critical reception has changed drastically over the years, with movies like Scream being viewed as a crucial film in the horror genre.

Warwick Davis, the British actor and comedian best known for starring in Lucasfilm’s Willow and its follow-up series on Disney+, is set to be awarded with a BAFTA Fellowship at the Ee BAFTA Film Awards, taking place on Sunday, February 16.

The BAFTA Fellowship recognizes those who have made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, games or television. Davis is just the latest in a long line of luminaries to receive the honor, the most recent being actress Samantha Morton last year.

“The Fellowship, to me, embodies the spirit of inclusivity, creativity, and collaboration that BAFTA stands for. Jennifer Aniston would become one of NBC's biggest stars as Rachel Green on "Friends," but the path to fame isn't always smooth. One of her bumps along the way (besides starring in the ridiculous horror comedy "Leprechaun"), was her role in a television adaptation of John Hughes' '80s classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Aniston was perfect for the role of Jeannie, Ferris' sister, taking over from Jennifer Grey, who played that character in the film. Aniston's low, deadpan voice, pouty mouth, and sighs of exasperation perfectly captured Jeannie's sourpuss attitude and frustration with Ferris' antics — namely his uncanny ability to charm everyone he comes across and his nimble ways of wriggling out of trouble. She's a great fit for the role, but the television show itself? Well, it's not so great. It's bizarre, even.

The 2011 horror anthology series "American Horror Story," co-created by Brad Falchuk and TV juggernaut Ryan Murphy, is presented in a novel fashion. Each one of its 12 seasons stands as a wholly independent 10-to-13-episode miniseries, with each one featuring a unique set of characters and a new timeframe/location. Murphy and Falchuk select a traditionally Halloween-y horror topic or premise -- a haunted house, vampires, a witch coven, a circus sideshow, extraterrestrials, cultists -- and then spin it out in their own sensationalistic idiom. "American Horror Story" tends to be salacious and stylized, and its sheer variety have kept audiences coming back for years.

Note: "American Horror Story" is not to be confused with the 2021 series "American Horror Stories," which is actually a spinoff. "Stories" is a more traditional "Tales from the Crypt"-like anthology show, with each episode featuring an original story and its own unique cast of actors.

The closer one looks at "Bones," the more one begins to wonder if everything really does come back to Hart Hanson's long-lived rom-com/gnarly crime procedural. From multiple "Breaking Bad" actors showing up as guest stars to Kevin Yagher, the legendary creature designer who co-wrote Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow," playing a key creative role behind-the-scenes on the series with his brother Chris Yagher, it seems as though our plane of existence is merely a tangled web with "Bones" at the center. The second part of American Horror Stories season 3 is now available to stream on Hulu. It is packed with five chilling new episodes. But what’s up with this release format? Is there an episode 10 still ahead? Is this season of AHStories season 3 or considered season 4? Here’s everything we know!

No release schedules are more complicated than those of streaming shows. And there’s so much confusion surrounding this new season of AHS’ spin-off AHStories. For starters, is it season 3 or season 4? Technically, the new episodes are part of season 3. The first half of the third season premiered almost a year ago on Oct. 26, so that’s why fans were not sure.

FX is bringing spinoff “American Horror Stories” back next month with a special five episode event as part of Hulu’s annual Huluween festivities. FX has debuted the new “American Horror Stories” trailer this afternoon, giving a closer look at the monsters and stories involved.

All five episodes of the “Huluween” event will drop on Tuesday, October 15 on Hulu and via Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the US. The series will also premiere October 15 on Disney+ in Canada and will be coming to Disney+ internationally.

“American Horror Stories” is created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The series premiered on July 15, 2021, and was also part of last year’s Huluween. The anthology series feature a different horror story each episode.

Once again resurrecting the horror franchise from the 1990s, Lionsgate is bringing Leprechaun back to life for a new generation. Debuting in 1993, the cult-classic horror-comedy series chronicles various people as they get on the bad side of the mythical Irish terror after taking his pot of gold. Though the series was always tinged with a bit of silliness, the subsequent Leprechaun sequels pushed the envelope until the verdant menace found his way into space and "tha hood" as the films continued into the early 2000s. Despite that, Lionsgate has seen the recognizable intellectual property's potential and developed a reboot.

Spooky season is nearly here.

And Peacock, Universal’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, has just unveiled its Halloween programming line-up, full of tricks and treats from the studio’s back catalog, as well as two new series (“Teacup” and “Hysteria!”) for some fresh scares.

In 2022 and ’23, there was at least one big Blumhouse movie that simultaneously debuted on Peacock — in ’22, it was David Gordon Green’s trilogy-capping “Halloween Ends” and last year, it was the video game adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s”. This year doesn’t have anything quite like that, but it’s still a powerful collection of titles for every viewer.

The Sept. 1 batch includes classics like “Bride of Frankenstein,” “It Came From Outer Space” and “Werewolf of London;” 1980s favorites like “Halloween III: Season of the Witch,” “The Funhouse” and “The Thing;” along with more modern hits like the original “Candyman,” Jordan Peele’s “Us” and several entries in the “Saw” franchise.

While you wait for Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 this coming October from Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting, the team’s next horror movie Stream is headed to theaters in August.

Iconic Events Releasing will bring Stream to theaters nationwide on August 21, 2024, and we’ve learned today that Days of the Dead Indianapolis will be hosting a sneak peek event on July 6. Fans in attendance will be treated to the very first look at the Stream theatrical trailer, with director Michael Leavy in attendance alongside producer Phil Falcone (Terrifier 2), Marcus Slabine, Danielle Harris, Felissa Rose and Dave Sheridan.

After heavy discussions of Gregg Araki’s Mysterious Skin (listen) and Lisa Brühlmann’s Blue My Mind (listen) – with a stop-over to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s Alien (listen) – we’re headed to space with Danny Boyle‘s 2007 collaboration with Alex Garland: Sunshine.

Sunshine features all of the usual space movie tropes, including dangerous external repair job, a mysterious Sos beacon, and a disastrous previous mission, but the film’s legacy is an unconventional third act that turns the film into a slasher courtesy of mysterious character Pinbacker (Mark Strong).

The world of special effects makeup often feels like a dying art, with studios and streamers increasingly pursuing CGI and digital FX over practical artistry. Now, there is absolutely room for both styles and different films call for different methods, but gone are the days where the average moviegoer can recognize the name of a special effects makeup artist. Diehard fans are, of course, the exception to the rule, and there's at least one name that horror fanatics all know by heart and are stoked as hell to see on an end credits crawl: Steven Kostanski.

Xochitl Gomez, best known for playing Marvel heroine America Chavez in the studio’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is shooting Hive, a horror short from rising Colombian-American filmmaker Felipe Vargas.

Written and directed by Vargas, Hive stars Gomez as a teenage babysitter who loses the young girl she’s taking care of at an idyllic playground and is forced to confront an insidious entity hidden among the children. Gomez stars alongside Lorelei Olivia Mote, a tyke who has appeared in American Horror Story and Daisy Jones & the Six.

The story is being told in real time and and set in the bright daylight of the outdoors, something the filmmakers think differentiates their project from most horror projects.

Take a seat my horror hounds, the Leprechaun is making rounds. From grassy knolls and Irish springs- to the streets on a hunt for bling. Okay, I admit that was pretty bad- but in my defense, I haven’t been able to stop talking in rhyme since I watched the year 2000’s Leprechaun in the Hood (watch it Here) which not only is a completely outside of the box film for the franchise, it also, somehow, fits right in with it. The fifth movie in the Leprechaun series, In the Hood takes the wise-cracking and menacing Leprechaun as he once again schemes and murders his way to retrieving his beloved pot of gold. Or in this case- his golden flute.

Fans of this franchise all have our own ranking when it comes to which Leprechaun films are too cheesy, which are not cheesy enough, and which ones are just right.

"Leprechaun" is one of those horror franchises that keeps on keepin' on. It's not very good, and yet, we, the movie-watching public, return to these movies again and again, even as they grow progressively more ridiculous. One recurring element in all of the "Leprechaun" movies is a sense of humor, particularly from the titular Leprechaun, played in the majority of the movies by Warwick Davis. Like Freddy Krueger in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" sequels, the Leprechaun is a jokester; he likes to quip when he's killing.

But as silly as the series has grown, there was a point in time when the original film was going to be much different. Specifically, it was going to be something darker and more horror-forward. Things changed, and a sense of humor prevailed. But imagine an alternate timeline when the first "Leprechaun" movie was a full-blown serious horror picture designed to scare the hell out of you.

Not all horror villains are successful murderers; some like Ghostface from Scream and Annabelle relied on others for their kills. Mister Babadook and Lubdan the Leprechaun were terrifying but ultimately terrible at actually killing their intended victims. The Beast from Poltergeist failed to capitalize on opportunities to kill, making them more of a menacing presence than an effective killer.

Horror villains have kept audiences on the edge of their seats and fearing for their lives, but some were simply terrible at actually killing their victims. The best horror movies have introduced all kinds of villains to audiences, from the intelligent and sneaky to the brutally violent. "Leprechaun" isn't a very good movie, but it did spawn an entire horror franchise, so that has to count for something. In addition to starring Warwick Davis as the titular demonic figure, the first "Leprechaun" film is perhaps best known for starring a pre-"Friends" Jennifer Aniston, playing one of the unlucky humans who goes up against Davis' horror movie villain. It was Aniston's second film role — her first being an uncredited background performance in the infamous "E.T." knock-off "Mac and Me." "Leprechaun" arrived in 1993, and a year later, "Friends" would help make Aniston a star. But before that, she was just a working actor looking for her big break. Lots of actors get their start in horror movies, so there's surely no shame in Aniston facing off against a killer leprechaun.

The erratic Leprechaun franchise is not known for sticking with a single concept for too long. The namesake (originally played by Warwick Davis) has gone to L.A., Las Vegas, space, and the ‘hood (not once but twice). And after an eleven-year holiday since the Davis era ended, the character received a drastic makeover in a now-unmentionable reboot. The critical failure of said film would have implied it was time to pack away the green top hat and shillelagh, and say goodbye to the nefarious imp. Instead, the Leprechaun series tried its luck again.

The general consensus for the Leprechaun films was never positive, and the darker yet blander Leprechaun: Origins certainly did not sway opinions. Just because the 2014 installment took itself seriously did not mean viewers would. After all, creator Mark Jones conceived a gruesome horror-comedy back in the early nineties, and that format is what was expected of any future ventures.

A new movie poster convinced fans a remake of Leprechaun starring Peter Dinklage is on the way. 

The cult-hit horror franchise has not seen a mainline entry since 2018, consisting of eight movies dating back to January 1993. 

While each film in the series differs in plot, they largely center around unassuming Westerners bringing back a Leprechaun from Ireland, with the pint-sized mythical figure going on a killing spree because of it.

Nine months have gone by since Lionsgate announced that they were moving forward with a Leprechaun “reimagining” that had Felipe Vargas, director of the award-winning short film Milk Teeth, on board to direct. During a new interview with Splattercast, Vargas confirmed that the reimagining is still in development, and that he’s hoping to do something gory, sexy, crazy, and elevated with this property.

Vargas told Splattercast (with thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting for the transcription), “I’m so honored to be on that project. It’s such a cool franchise. To me what makes the franchise so special is that it really is limitless. It doesn’t need to be grounded. The eight film Leprechaun horror franchise is about to get a ninth installment, with Lionsgate recently hiring director Felipe Vargas (Milk Teeth) to “reimagine” the franchise.

But what can we expect from this next installment in the long-running saga? Felipe Vargas sat down with Splattercast ahead of St. Patrick’s Day to tease the new movie.

Vargas tells the show, “I’m so honored to be on that project. It’s such a cool franchise. To me what makes the franchise so special is that it really is limitless. It doesn’t need to be grounded. It can just be gory, sexy, crazy.”

You can always count on Syfy to program the Leprechaun movies for St. Patrick’s Day, and we’re happy to report that this year is no exception. Syfy will be airing an all-day Leprechaun Franchise Marathon for St. Patrick’s Day once again, taking place on Sunday, March 17!

The good news? They’re showing All 8 Movies throughout the day, including 2018’s Leprechaun Returns. The bad news? As always, the movies are playing out of order.

The Leprechaun franchise kicked off with Mark Jones’s original horror-comedy in 1993, which was followed by five Warwick Davis-starring sequels, a reboot, and later Leprechaun Returns in 2018. Even though Leprechaun Returns was a sequel to the original movie, Linden Porco took over the role of the title character, played by Dylan Postl for Leprechaun Origins.
