Apple TV+ has set January 22 for the premiere of conspiracy thriller series Prime Target starring White Lotus and One Day breakout Leo Woodall and Black Adam‘s Quintessa Swindell. Today, Apple TV+ announced the premiere date for the new conspiracy thriller Prime Target, starring SAG Award winner Leo Woodall and Quintessa Swindell.

Created by award-winning writer Steve Thompson, who also serves as executive producer, the new drama is produced for Apple TV+ by New Regency with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions.

The eight-episode series will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on January 22, 2025, with the first two episodes followed by one episode weekly, every Wednesday through March 5, 2025.

According to the actor, who’s spent several decades of his life starring in hit movies, he doesn’t bother to take home anything from his movies; not the ‘Godfather’ cane or the ‘Scarface’ suit.

“I’ll probably lose them,” Pacino said, explaining his reason for doing so as down to his constant moves between properties. “For a long while, I used to bop from one place to another. I always was a bit of a gypsy.

“A Pale View of Hills,” the debut novel of Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro, is being adapted as a feature film. The picture is now in production and being directed by Japan’s Ishikawa Kei.

The film is presented by U-Next, Japan’s leading local streaming company. Production is by Bunbuku in association with Number 9 Films, the U.K. company headed by Stephen Woolley (“The Crying Game”) and Elizabeth Karlsen.

Gaga Corporation will handle distribution in Japan after the film’s anticipated completion in summer 2025. No sales agent or international distributor has been attached.

Number Nine Films previously produced “Living,” the Ishiguro-scripted, Bill Nighy-starring adaptation of Kurosawa Akira’s classic film “Ikiru,” and earned two Oscar nominations.

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) has selected Rich Peppiatt’s Kneecap as Ireland’s representative in the Oscars international feature film category for the 2025 awards.

UK-born, Belfast-based filmmaker Peppiatt directs the music biopic of Belfast rap trio Kneecap, that stars the real-life band alongside a cast including Michael Fassbender, Simone Kirby, Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds and Adam Best.

The film is set in west Belfast in 2019, when fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of Naoise and Liam Óg, who form an Irish-language hip-hop act, and become unlikely figureheads for a civil rights movement to save their mother tongue.

We don’t get a ton of Gothic or romanticized horror anymore, at least not in the sense of the old days. The old days had a bit of a stretch too as I’m talking about the Universal classics and Val Lewton all the way through at least the early run of Hammer Films. To that end, what creature is more romantic or at least romanticized than Dracula and any of his vampire off shoots? While many of the vampiric screen adaptations have that feel to them from Frank Langella to Gary Oldman and David Bowie sandwiched in between, there are few vampires who embody that ideology more than those found in the writings of Anne Rice. While her novel Interview with the Vampire came out all the way back in 1976, it would take nearly 20 years for the adaptation to hit theaters with the movie of the same name...

The Savannah College of Art and Design is again bringing a generous helping of Southern hospitality to France’s Luberon Valley for the Scad Lacoste Film Festival, which runs June 27 to 29. Now in its third year, the fest was conceived as a top-up highlight for college students doing their semester abroad at Scad’s sumptuous campus in Lacoste, an inexcusably picturesque medieval village in the heart of Provence.

“[Scad founder and president] Paula Wallace always wants to make sure our students have access to the best of everything,” says Christina Routhier, executive director of Scad Theaters and Festivals. “The focus [at Scad Lacoste] is on film majors: acting, directing, production, costume design. So it was a perfect fit to bring in a film festival.”

The event is a complement to the school’s long-running main fest in Savannah, Georgia, which runs Oct. 26 to Nov. 2. Attracting talent to Lacoste, with its Instagram-ready cobblestone streets and lavender fields, hasn’t been a problem.

Neil Jordan has spent his career telling strange, twisting stories that have mesmerised, surprised and occasionally misfired. Mona Lisa, The Crying Game, The Company of Wolves, Breakfast on Pluto – these films all veer off in unexpected directions, ambushing the audience. But it turns out the director saved the biggest twist for himself. Watching some of his films at a festival some years ago, Jordan was startled to see his own private life up there on the screen. It seems he had unknowingly channelled his relationships with his father, his wife and his children into stories about gangsters, terrorists and hot vampires. “I was shocked at how much of myself I revealed,” he says. “It was like a physical shock.”

Cillian Murphy capped off his domination of awards season by claiming the top acting prize for film on home soil.

The Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG award winner on Saturday night added perhaps a final statue to his flawless haul of honors for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” when he was named best lead actor at the 21st Irish Film and TV Academy Awards.

“God, I’m still so brutal at this,” the famously shy actor said on collecting the award, presented to him by “Killers of the Flower Moon” star and fellow recent awards circuit regular Lily Gladstone. “But being in this room is so special — being at home, with people that I love and admire amongst my fellow nominees and some of my favorite people.” Speaking backstage afterwards at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre, he added: “It feels lovely being home with so many friends and colleagues.”

When audiences seek movies based on brands, that usually means the likes of Marvel, DC Comics, and Pixar — not studios or distributors.

The exception is A24. It’s something acknowledged by its peers (however grudgingly) and among a growing section of younger cinephiles, for whom “an A24 movie” means something a little weird and potentially cool, maybe great — and reason to take a chance on going to a theater.

Alex Garland‘s “Civil War,” the company’s most expensive film (a reported $50 million) opens this week with tracking that suggests it could open to $20 million or more. That would top any previous A24 opening; its best is “Hereditary,” which opened to $13.5 million in 2018.

Garland’s film checks many of the boxes that have translated into A24’s success. Its director has a strong following, including prior A24 films “Ex Machina” and “Men.” “Civil War” also had a widely publicized festival premiere at SXSW last month.

Since Cillian Murphy just became the first Irish-born actor to win the Best Actor Oscar, I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a list of the most notable Irish actors who have been honored by the Academy with either Oscar gold or a nomination.

Murphy has played non-Irish roles so often and so well that some people may not realize or remember that he is Irish. ‘Camomile Lawn’ Novelist’s Estate Snapped Up By Ilp

International Literary Properties has acquired the estate of British The Camomile Lawn novelist Mary Wesley. Channel 4’s adaptation of The Camomile Lawn is Channel 4’s second most successful drama series of all time, according to Ilp, and the deal will see Ilp manage the rights to Wesley’s work. Having famously published her first novel aged 70, she also wrote the likes of Jumping the Queue, Harnessing Peacocks and The Vacillations of Poppy Carew, all of which have previously been adapted for film and TV. “Mary was an incredible woman, an extraordinary author and a very close member of my family,” said Wesley’s daughter in law, the author Xinran Xue. Deadline revealed last year that Ilp, which holds rights to the literary estates of Langston Hughes and Evelyn Waugh, had headed on a West Coast charm offensive and snapped up the estate of Somerset Maugham.

Robert Downey Jr. has quickly become the Oscars frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor for his transformative turn in Christopher Nolan‘s acclaimed biopic “Oppenheimer.” This Universal blockbuster chronicles how Cillian Murphy‘s titular scientist J. Marvel entries like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” (Disney) are better tests for the strength of the franchise than the MCU’s top tentpoles. And based on multiple elements, the third film in the “Ant-Man” series passed with flying colors.

Its domestic three-day gross of 104 million (worldwide 225 million) came in the face of some actual challenges. The title character led two previous films, with the second one in 2018 opening to 76 million. The threequel did 37 percent better than last time. Ticket prices have increased substantially in five years, but that still means it slightly outpaced in attendance.

That came in the face of some headwinds. The critical consensus (Marvel films usually get good to better reviews) was outright negative. Even more concerning, its Cinemascore was a B — only one Marvel film has rated that low before, “Eternals”.

Yet its Saturday drop from the combined Thursday preview and Friday grosses was 27 percent.

Liam Neeson has been set to star in director Neil Jordan’s (The Crying Game, Marlowe, Interview with a Vampire) upcoming thriller ‘The Riker’s Ghost.’

The film follows a convict set for release (Neeson) who is forced to break a terrorist out of prison when his lawyer is kidnapped, as he is the only one who knows a way out.

“This is a unique take on the prison escape,” said Jordan. “A bare-knuckle ride from incarceration to freedom, by someone who just wants to finish his term. The reluctant escapee will be played by Liam Neeson, and I can’t wait to explore this character with him.”

Despite turning 70 last year and being about to hit the milestone of 100 films with the upcoming release of neo-noir crime thriller Marlowe, Liam Neeson isn’t even trying to slow down.

The Hollywood Reporter can reveal that the Irish star will take the lead in The Riker’s Ghost, reuniting him with his Marlowe director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Interview with a Vampire).

Capstone is handling international sales on the feature and will introduce it to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. CAA Media Finance is handling U.S. rights.

British costume designer Sandy Powell will be honoured at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards with a Fellowship – the arts charity’s highest honour, and the first time it has gone to a costume designer.

Powell – who has three Oscars to her name for Shakespeare in Love, The Aviator and The Young Victoria – will be presented with the accolade at the ceremony taking place in London on Sunday February 19, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to film.

She has been mastering her craft for more than three decades, with her body of work also including: The Favourite, Interview with a Vampire, The Crying Game, Mary Poppins Returns, Cinderella, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Irishman and Velvet Goldmine.

Powell received her first BAFTA and Oscar nominations for Orlando, going on to win three BAFTA Awards for Best Costume Design from five nominations.

Sandy Powell — the three-time Oscar-winning costume designer whose credits include Gangs of New York, Shakespeare in Love, Carol and The Irishman — is set to receive the BAFTA Fellowship, the British Academy’s highest honor.

Powell, who becomes the first costume designer to be awarded the fellowship, will be given the honor at the BAFTA film awards on Feb. 19.
