Jeff Goldblum, 25, has forgotten his mantra. At least, his nameless party guest character – dubbed “Man on the Phone” in the screenplay – has. And it’s the way he delivered that line in 1977’s Annie Hall that made him stand out despite only having a few seconds of screen time. Somehow – just by being himself – Jeff Goldblum turned a throwaway bit into one of the funniest lines in one of the funniest films.
As for Jeff Goldblum himself, he says his mantras are “I am grateful” and “Accept, enjoy, enthuse.” And that, across 50 years on the big screen, is as truthful as it gets when it comes to Jeff Goldblum.
Let’s find out: What Happened to…Jeff Goldblum?

Lydia Deetz, her stepmother Delia Deetz, and her daughter Astrid stand over a casket, the burial services in progress. We can barely make out who the funeral is for but there he is on the headstone: Charles Deetz. While Charles was once part of the Beetlejuice sequel when the ghost with the most was to “go Hawaiian”, he was written entirely out of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice…for reasons that will soon be obvious.
Despite the original’s and sequel’s dalliances with the afterlife, Jeffrey Jones will not be in the Beetlejuice sequel– or pretty much any other legitimate movie – following his disgraceful tumble from his small but reliable spotlight. Perfectly fitting into prestigious period pieces and goofball funny flicks. Jones is a Golden Globe nominee with consistent work – a mix of villain, comedic and at times patriarchal roles, Jeffrey Jones went from Ferris Bueller baddie to Who’s Your Caddy?...

Super Bowl Sunday always has a little something for everyone, but this year's big game in Las Vegas went above and beyond in the razzle-dazzle department.
We were, of course, prepared for a celebrity-crammed spectacle due to the luxury booth presence of Travis Kelce's substantially famous girlfriend, but this gridiron rematch between last year's combatants, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, brought out more than just arguably the most famous pop star on the planet. The only pop star in that aforementioned argument, Beyoncé, was there with her hip-hop god husband Jay-Z! The world's greatest basketball player, LeBron James, flew in from Los Angeles for the contest! And Paul freakin' Rudd, sporting a bushy freakin' mustache that would've driven Avery Schreiber into a jealous rage, prowled the sidelines pre-game in support of his hometown Chiefs!
But if we're talking true, earth-shaking, knock-you-on-your-keister fame, let there be...

Geena Davis has had a four-decade career in film and television, and it all began because of the comic way she filled out a pair of underwear in the classic comedy “Tootsie.” Davis was an aspiring model and actress when director Sydney Pollack cast her and she drew huge laughs as Dustin Hoffman’s dressing room mate who doesn’t know he is really a man. She thereby exercises and walks around the dressing room in just a bra and panties causing Hoffman’s character great discomfort.
Davis then turned to television in the cult hit sitcom “Buffalo Bill” for which she even wrote an episode. While beloved by critics and award shows the dark show never found its audience and was cancelled shortly into its run. Davis was then cast as the lead in a sitcom named “Sara” which was supposed to make her the next Mary Tyler Moore.

In Hollywood it only takes one role to turn you into an icon, and one moment to take it all away. Long before cancel culture was a phrase, one iconic celebrity had a meltdown of epic proportions that helped usher in the age of the viral video. As many TV stars have found out, life after a hugely successful show can be quite tough for some. With Julia Louis-Dreyfus winning countless Emmy’s, Jason Alexander returning to his stage roots and Jerry Seinfeld continuing his legendary stand up career, its time we find out what happened to the other member of Seinfeld’s iconic cast: Wtf Happened to Michael Richards? Ya know… Kramer!
But as always we must begin at the beginning and the beginning began on his birthday July 24, 1949 in Culver City, California. After starting on the stand up circuit in 1979, Richards career would take off when he was...

The 1980s, especially the mid-1980s, were basically the heyday of slasher films, many of them were being released each year in theaters and direct-to-video, some of them making huge box office numbers like the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, the Friday the 13th movies, and the Halloween movies. Non-franchise films were not as big both financially and critically but they didn’t do too badly either. Then came Return to Horror High in 1987 (watch it Here). Some would say that the film was ahead of its time, being a very meta horror comedy about slasher films, having endings within endings, and twisting the sub-genre on its head. Celebrating its tenth anniversary as part of the industry program of the Transilvania Film Festival, the Transilvania Pitch Stop — one of the leading co-production and co-financing platforms for filmmakers from Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the wider Black Sea region — will showcase 10 projects by first- and second-time directors searching for potential European partners on June 15 in the historic medieval city of Cluj.
The selection, which includes projects from eight countries, is a diverse crop that ranges from intimate personal dramas to stories casting a wider net, capturing their protagonists in the throes of historical forces.
“They are very different this year,” said Dumitrana Lupu, who took over as TIFF’s head of industry in 2022. “We have genre. We have mystery. We have some magical realism.”

When push comes to shove, the Transilvania Intl. Film Festival has always prided itself on pushing the envelope, preferring to err on the side of provocation where other fests might choose to play it safe. That mentality has been encoded into the fest’s DNA since its beginnings in the tumultuous post-Communist era, when civil liberties and artistic freedom were still far from guaranteed in the newly democratic Romania.
Yet after a turbulent period of unprecedented disruption, brought on first by the coronavirus pandemic and then by the widespread humanitarian and economic crises spurred by Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine, even TIFF founder Tudor Giurgiu admits, “These were tough years.” The temptation might have been there to tinker with a formula that has made the festival such a success for the past two decades.

The creature feature just isn’t explored enough anymore. Jaws was a monster of a success story and ended up having three sequels on its own and had a slew of imitators. 1980 would give us, in my humble opinion, one of the better ones with Alligator starring Robert Forster. It was successful too, making 6 and a half million on a 1.5-million-dollar budget. I know that’s not crazy money, but it was a hit and had a fun pedigree with it that remains very popular today. Its one of the movies that keeps selling well with new and old fans and so it recently got put on 4K. There weren’t as many creature flicks through the rest of the...

Five wide releases hit theaters this weekend, but Illumination and Universal’s Super Mario Bros. Movie will reign supreme with a second weekend, -60% of $58M. Already the plumbers have plunged a running stateside total through nine days of $260M, with $300M+ this weekend in sight.
Super Mario Bros grossed $9.4M yesterday at 4,343 locations, -13% from Wednesday’s $10.7M.
Two genre films aimed at dudes over 25 are battling it out, one funnier than the other in the face-off between Universal’s Nicolas Cage vampire comedy, Renfield, and Sony/Screen’s Gems Pope’s Exorcist starring Russell Crowe.
Renfield did $900K in previews last night to Pope’s Exorcist‘s $850K. Both were projecting $8M-$10M, however, Renfield looks to be at the top of that range. Renfield, at 62% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with critics (82% with moviegoers), is booked at 3,300 theaters, while Pope’s Exorcist is at 3,100 sites, saddled at 48% Rotten...

Happy Friday, everyone! This time last week, we celebrated the amazing independent horror films that were released throughout the 1970s, so it only makes sense that we shift our focus today to all the great indie genre movies and moviemakers that helped make the ’80s one of the most unforgettable decades in horror.
Much like the 1970s, we saw a handful of eventual Masters of Horror establish themselves as genre storytellers on the indie side of things throughout the ’80s. On the East Coast, we saw an explosion of creativity come out of New York City with filmmakers such as William Lustig, Frank Henenlotter, Larry Fessenden, and Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman making their feature debuts in the world of horror during the ’80s. And even though Troma Entertainment was founded in 1974, the company really came into its own during the 1980s as well. The indie studio founded by the aforementioned...

Mace Neufeld, the producer whose star-driven action films were blockbusters, died overnight in his sleep at his home in Beverly Hills, his family told Deadline. He was 93.
Neufeld’s hit films included The Omen and its sequels, The Equalizer pics and several adaptations of Tom Clancy-penned Jack Ryan thrillers including Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum of All Fears and The Hunt for Red October. He was Emmy-nominated for East of Eden and exec produced the Prime Video series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan starring John Kasinski.
A family friend told Deadline that Neufeld was working on a third Equalizer pic and another Tom Clancy series for Prime Video at the time of his death.
Neufeld was at his zenith in the ’90s when, with partner Bob Rehme, he formed Neufeld/Rehme and produced a string of hit films such as Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Beverly Hills Cop III.

Philipp Yuryev’s “The Whaler Boy,” which took home the Venice Days award at last year’s Venice Film Festival, won the top prize at the Transilvania Film Festival on Saturday.
The jury praised the Russian director’s feature debut, an offbeat story of a teenage whale hunter on the Bering Strait who sets out to meet a webcam model, for being “beautiful and meticulous in its sense of time and place” while also being “really resonant and contemporary at the same time as being classic.”
Yuryev, who had not attended the festival, was hastily flown to Cluj from Moscow on Saturday morning, telling the audience: “It is really something surprising to be here, and to have a chance to visit this place and to see you all.” He dedicated the award to the remote whale-hunting community in Chukotka where the movie was filmed, as well as to its young...

‘That Was Life’ Is A Continually Surprising Delight About Later-Life Awakening [Transilvania Review]
Brush past the terrible English title (also sometimes written as “That Was Life” which is marginally more comprehensible but still needlessly generic) and David Martín de los Santos‘ debut feature, titled in Spanish “La Vida Era Eso,” awaits to unfurl its superbly performed, constantly surprising, deeply moving series of everyday miracles on you. Starting off as an odd-couple drama, morphing into a later-life journey of self-discovery while taking a couple of detours into offbeat platonic romance territory, this Transilvania International Film Festival competition film is really a salutary valentine to sudden, unlikely friendships springing forth between strangers, creating unexpected oases of hope and discovery within the desert of everyday routine.

Of all the international film festivals to roll out the red carpet this summer in what feels like a global industry reboot, few can fall back on past experience when it comes to the logistics of an in-person pandemic edition. But amid the wave of cancellations that all but wiped out the calendar year in 2020, the Transilvania Intl. Film Festival managed to pull off what few others could, relying on a host of open-air venues to successfully welcome moviegoers to the medieval city of Cluj.

Jurassic World: Dominion star Jeff Goldblum has revealed that there are post-production changes afoot for the movie’s plot which are being deliberately designed to make it more meaningful in a post-pandemic era.
Goldblum, who has reprised his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm for the upcoming dino sequel alongside Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill and Laura Dern, says that his Jurassic Park mathematician has always been vocal about the kind of scientific outlook and philosophy that has become a focus for many people during the events of 2020.
“There are things that my character talks about, has always talked a little bit about, the fragility of our species and the global cooperation that’s needed and the foundation and science that is needed,” explained Goldblum on EW’s video series, Couch Surfing. “Oh, and the ethical use of science that’s needed to unite us in trust and connectedness as a family.

Geena Davis will celebrate her 63rd birthday on January 21, 2019. Davis has had a nearly 35-year career in film and television and it all began because of the comic way she filled out a pair of underwear in the classic comedy “Tootsie.” Davis was an aspiring model and actress when director Sydney Pollack cast her and she drew huge laughs as Dustin Hoffman’s dressing room mate who doesn’t know he is really a man. She thereby exercises and walks around the dressing room in just a bra and panties causing Hoffman’s character great discomfort.

Another new name has been added to the cast of Fox’s The Exorcist TV series, and it should excite fans of Beetlejuice and 1986’s The Fly.
Variety reports that Geena Davis has joined the cast of The Exorcist TV series. Davis is set to play the role of Angela Rance, who “does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling.” Despite her sunny outlook on life, Angela dreams of a demon and wonders if it is related to the problems plaguing her family.
Angela appears to be the mother of Charlotte Rance (Brianne Howey from Scream Queens), a teenager who is potentially possessed by a demon following an intense accident, and Charolotte’s concerned sister, Casey (Hannah Kasulka from The Fosters).
Horror fans are well aware of Geena Davis, who previously starred in David Cronenberg’s The Fly, Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice,...

A friend of mine and I were deciding what we wanted to do Halloween night and came to the conclusion we wanted to see a movie. I checked times on the local theater’s website and noticed a movie called “Freaks of Nature.”
The blurb describing the movie said it involved zombies, vampires, and humans co-existing in the town of Dillford, until aliens show up and, essentially, wreck everything. As soon as I read this blurb out loud, my friend’s face lit up, he grinned, and said “We have to go to that one.”
So, we did. We had no expectations. The only name we recognized in the miniscule summary was Joan Cusack, and they didn’t even bother to mention what her role would be. The poster looks like it could have come from any teen-centric horror movie from the very late seventies to the mid-eighties, easily. It...

From Howard The Duck to Scary Movie 5, few genres are as soul-suckingly awful as comedies gone wrong, but that’s no guarantee that Hollywood will stop making them, especially if they prove popular.
Though A Haunted House was dismissed by critics (“It’s like watching a snuff film,” commented The Austin Chronicle, “only it’s the audience who’s dying inside”), it made $60 million on a $2.5 million production budget, so a year later audiences were treated to more of the same. As the saying goes, Hollywood was just giving the audience what it wants, so if you’ve ever wondered aloud how such films could exist, don’t restrict you ire to the filmmakers.
This is by no means a recent phenomenon. In 1985, Leonard Maltin gave his shortest ever review when discussing another bungled comedy: “Transylvania 6-5000 stank. I’m Leonard Maltin, Entertainment Tonight.” The picture not only made its money back,...

For the most part, the days of the classic monster movie are over. Modern moviegoing audiences are simply too sophisticated to quake at the sight of a shambling, dusty old mummy or a be-caped vampire with a distinctive widow's peak and a propensity for pronouncing his w's as v's. The werewolves, vampires, ghosts and zombies ("Frankensteins") of yesteryear still have enormous appeal, but more often as the subjects of parodies or comedies than of horror movies.
The latest movie to use classic monsters for laughs is acclaimed animator and director Genndy Tartakovsky's (Samurai Jack, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) upcoming 3-D family comedy, Hotel Transylvania, which revolves around a secret hotel run by Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) that caters to monsters who want a little getaway from torch-waving humans. One should have known the 1985 monster comedy Transylvania 6-5000 was headed for trouble just by mere fact that its title was a pun based on a hit 1940 Glenn Miller tune that would have been obscure even to audiences 25 years ago, though not nearly as obscure as the film’s theme song is to this day.
Transylvania 6-5000, written and directed by Rudy De Luca, cast Ed Begley, Jr., and Jeff Goldblum as tabloid reporters sent by their editor to uncover the truth behind a rash of (then) modern day Frankenstein monster sightings. It was neither critically acclaimed nor a commercial hit. It’s probably only really remembered for being the movie where Goldblum first hooked up with his future ex-wife, Geena Davis, who played a sexy vampiress.

Well, look at that: Brundlefly is twenty-five years old today. On August 15, 1986, David Cronenberg’s The Fly was released by Twentieth-Century Fox. The film became Cronenberg’s greatest success to date, and quickly established itself as an instant classic of practical effects thanks to the Oscar-winning work of Chris Walas. (Who would go on to direct the sequel.) The Fly also gave stars Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, who had met and begun dating while making Transylvania 6-5000, their first true breakout lead opportunities. Those are all significant results of the film’s release, but The Fly is a film worth revisiting and honoring for other reasons. It marks a real turning point in the career of David Cronenberg, and stands as one of the unassailable arguments for the idea of the film remake. And, in the cinematic culture of 2011, where the superhero is ascendant, some of you might join...

Oh. My. God. Image Entertainment, you have made my day! The announcement of the lineup for Image's Midnight Madness Series has set my feet to dancing. And if you're a fan of '80's horror, you might find a little Michael Flatley in yourself because this is a killer list of films.
Okay, your interest must be piqued at this point, right? Dying to hear the list? I'll keep you in suspense no longer. Imagine I'm Michael Madsen in Reservoir Dogs and lend me your ear. (trumpet fanfare) I give you the Image Midnight Madness Series lineup:
Let's start with the heavy hitters (film descriptions from Image Entertainment):
Hellraiser (Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital; September 6th)
Horror master Clive Barker wrote and directed this seminal 1987 nightmare classic, featuring the first appearance of the iconic Pinhead. A story of puzzle boxes, Cenobites, ritual sadomasochism and dismemberment, this is a thrillingly perverse...

I don't want you to think I'm gunning for this flick, because I have a long history of enjoying films like Student Bodies, Scary Movie, Transylvania 6-5000, The Monster Squad, and tons of other mirthful monster movies, but it looks like the recent freak farce Transylmania has earned itself a spot in the hall of shame. Again, I'm pleased to note that our own John Gholson had a little fun with the flick, but here's the real story:
According to the fine folks at Box Office Mojo, and I quote, "Transylmania captured the record for the lowest-grossing opening for a movie playing at over 1,000 sites. The horror spoof grossed a mere $263,941 at 1,007 sites, stripping the 1991 feature, Rich Girl, of the title."
I'll leave it to someone smart to do the per-site math on that, but if you have a torn stub from your weekend trip to Transylmania, I think you should hold onto it.

When you scrape away the death obsessed subtext and technicalities of the process, watching and loving horror films should be just plain fun, exhilarating fun, a complete escape into another parallel world that echoes our own. If it's not, if you find yourself labouring to find that simple joyous eye of the proverbial needle, well then, perhaps you should just give up the pursuit of terror geekdome altogether.

I don't know if it will be as good as Transylvania 6-5000, but Full Circle Releasing plans to bring the Vampire/Comedy, Transylmania to theaters on December 4! Click here to watch the red band trailer. In Transylmania, a motley group of college students embark on the wildest, sexiest, most outrageous semester abroad ever at Razvan University. Located deep in the heart of the “cursed land” of Transylvania in a centuries-old castle, Razvan isn’t your typical institution of higher learning – and the black leather-clad professors, three-foot-tall dean, instruction in crucifix-wielding, and topless vampiresses lurking in dark corners are just the start. It seems Castle Razvan was overtaken by a band of vampires led by the feared Vampire King Radu in the dark ages who’s come back to reclaim it. A bubbling cauldron of wacky horror spoof, vampire action-adventure, and naughty college comedy, Transylmania culminates in a hilarious climax that...
