The late, great Nigel Hawthorne left behind following his death in 2001 a wonderful, cherishable collection of screen credits. What’s more, he wrote about them in his terrific memoir, Straight Face, that he completed shortly before his passing, and was published posthumously. The Madness Of King George and his role as Sir Humphrey in Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister took pride of place in a terrific list of credits.

But one film that Hawthorne wasn’t a fan of was his Hollywood debut.

When I turned 15, I developed a sudden compulsion to watch every 1980s and '90s action movie I could get my hands on -- not just the "Rambo" and "Terminator" films or the "RoboCop" and "Predator" movies, but also "Die Hard," "Commando," "TimeCop," and even "Cobra." Veteran TV and movie composer Mark Snow has died. A veteran musician and composer, Snow was best known for composing the haunting opening theme of The X-Files, in addition to scoring every episode of the series. Snow also composed for series like Blue Bloods, Smallville, and Ghost Whisperer. Snow died at his home in Connecticut at age 78.

Snow's death was announced by his longtime friend and colleague, Sean Callery, according to Variety. Snow was born Martin Fulterman on August 26, 1946, and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He studied at Juilliard and was friends and roommates with fellow future screen composer Michael Kamen; the two formed a band, Emil and the Detectives. He started out as a record producer, but his brother-in-law, actor Georg Stanford Brown, talked mega-producer Aaron Spelling into trying out Fulterman as a composer on their cop show, The Rookies. Mark Snow, a long-working composer for TV shows like “The X-Files” and “Blue Bloods,” died in his Connecticut home at the age of 78.

Snow turned the main theme for “The X-Files” into a chart hit and one of the most recognizable television themes of all time. He also scored the David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson series for 200 episodes. Other major shows Snow scored included “Ghost Whisperer,” “Blue Bloods,” six seasons of “Smallville,” “Hart to Hart,” and “Tj Hooker.”

The veteran composer wrangled up 15 Emmy nominations throughout his career. Six of those were for his work on “The X-Files” and another two were for “Ghost Whisperer.” A handful of TV movies and mini-series like “Helter Skelter,” “An American Story,” “Something About Amelia” and “Children of the Dust” also earned him nods.

In Stephen King's The Running Man, everyone, from the sprawling slums to the security-obsessed enclaves of the rich, tunes in every night to the nation's favourite prime-time TV game show.

They all watch the ultimate live death game as the contestants try to beat not the clock, but annihilation at the hands of the Hunters. Survive thirty days and win the billion-dollar jackpot - that's the promise. But the odds are brutal, and the game is rigged. The best score so far is eight days.

However, a new contestant, the latest Running Man, stakes his life while a nation watches. That's Ben Richards, the character who will be played by Twisters and Hit Man star Glen Powell in Edgar Wright's upcoming reboot of the novel (which was previously adapted in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role).

Derek Haas will always be known for his work creating the One Chicago franchise, but the writer has a new show out that’s gaining steam. Haas is the creator of Countdown, the thriller series following a secret task force sent to investigate a dangerous murder, only to discover a sinister plot that threatens the lives of millions. The show stars Jensen Ackles, best known for his work in Supernatural and The Boys, and also other stars such as Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Bogdan Yasinski, and more. Collider’s Aidan Kelley caught up with Haas for a chat at the world premiere of Countdown, and he asked about the biggest differences in working on shows for streaming services like Prime Video vs. networks like ABC and CBS:

"I don't know about darker, but it's definitely a bigger scope than what I had worked with before. Scope even within episodes and with storytelling.

Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists and Scott Stuber are developing “The Seventh Man,” a new action-thriller that’s written by T.J. Fixman.

Stuber and Fixman previously collaborated on “Carry On,” a hostage thriller with Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman that Jaume Collet-Serra directed. The film was a hit for Netflix and currently sits in second place on the streamer’s list of most popular movies.

Stuber was in charge of Netflix’s film unit before leaving the company in 2024. He then announced he had signed a multi-year film partnership with Amazon MGM Studios under which the company agreed to finance and release movies from Stuber’s new production company under the United Artists (UA) label. The hope was to revitalize the brand, which once produced classics like “Rocky” and “Network” before it faded.

UA’s Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce “The Seventh Man” with Fixman serving as executive producer.

Jensen Ackles has made a name for himself as a massive television star. He gained recognition on the Jessica Alba cult-classic Dark Angel and in Smallville season 4 as a series regular. However, Ackles' most prominent role was as Dean Winchester on the series Supernatural for a staggering 15 seasons, running from 2005-2020. He would reprise his role as Dean on the short-lived The Winchesters where he also served as an executive producer.

Ackles has remained a mainstay on television, appearing in The Boys and its spinoff Gen V as Soldier Boy. He will return in The Boys season 5, where he will be reunited with his Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki.
