Anyone who grew up in the 1970s can tell you the story of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three very lovely girls, and a man named Brady, who was busy with three boys of his own. Of course, one day, the lady met this fellow, and the rest is TV history. When Carol Martin (Florence Henderson) married Mike Brady (Robert Reed), all six of their children came together, along with their trusty maid Alice (Ann B. Davis), to become the sitcom family known as "The Brady Bunch."
"The Brady Bunch" is one of the most beloved and memorable sitcoms of all time. The adolescent antics of Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher McKnight), Bobby (Mike Lookinland), Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb), and Cindy (Susan Olsen) made for plenty of comedy and drama as the bunch dealt with the trials and tribulations of a blended family, sibling rivalries, growing up,...

If you’re looking for new movies and TV shows to watch on Amazon Prime Video in April, you’ve come to the right place. This month doesn’t bring a ton in terms of new Prime Video originals, but there are a few noteworthy titles. “Outer Range,” premiering April 15, is a new series that’s essentially “Yellowstone” but sci-fi. Josh Brolin plays a rancher fighting for his land in Wyoming who encounters a supernatural twist.
There’s also “A Very British Scandal,” which stars Claire Foy and Paul Bettany and focuses on the divorce of the Duke and Dutchess of Argyll, and the second season of the animated series “Undone” on April 29.
In terms of Prime Video movies, Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton star in the thriller ”All the Old Knives” which is streaming on April 8, and noteworthy library titles being added in April include “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,...

Good news for all you Brolin-heads! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by one very intriguing TV project starring Thanos himself.
The Josh Brolin-starring Outer Range premieres April 15 and looks like it could be a wild ride. The synopsis is terse and reads “A rancher fighting for his land and family stumbles upon an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, forcing a confrontation with the Unknown in ways both intimate and cosmic in the untamable American West.” That, combined with an enigmatic first trailer, has our interest piqued.
Also on the TV side of things this month is season 2 of the beautifully rotoscoped series Undone on April 29. Rosa Salazar returns as Alma, a woman who may have become unstuck in time to help save her scientist father’s life. Before that, the British TV series The Outlaws makes its debut...

As controversy builds around “Richard Jewell” and its depiction of female journalists, it’s nothing new for women music writers on the silver screen.
Although “Crazy Heart,” which premiered 10 years ago this month, was basically 2009’s equivalent of Bradley Cooper’s remake of “A Star Is Born,” it hasn’t had quite the staying power of some other archetypal music-based films. Jeff Bridges won his first Oscar for his portrayal of a washed-up, alcoholic country singer, and Maggie Gyllenhaal was nominated for her performance as the much younger love interest who tries to save him from self-destruction. The main difference in this film written and directed by Scott Cooper (no relation to Bradley) is that Gyllenhaal’s character is not a fellow singer-songwriter ripe for mentoring, but rather an aspiring journalist in search of a story.
Before long, however, business and pleasure intermingle and Bridges and Gyllenhaal wake up in...

Hawk Koch has had an interesting life to say the least, one as Howard W. Koch Jr., son of famous producer and industry heavyweight Howard W. Koch, and another that started with his Bar Mitzvah at age 50 and a new name, Hawk, that liberated him and enabled him for the first time in his life to forge his own identity away from his father’s.
As the producer or executive producer of numerous films including The Idolmaker, Primal Fear, Gorky Park, Wayne’s World, The Pope of Greenwich Village, The Long Walk Home, Keeping The Faith and many more, Koch has had a long, successful career. That career includes stints as president of Rastar Productions; president of the Producers Guild, where he considers the creation (with fellow president Mark Gordon) of the p.g.a. mark a career highpoint; and president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences...

Soon to be seen charming the pants off Margot Robbie in con man caper, Focus, Will Smith is set to leap into darker material for his next project. Per THR, Smith has signed on to topline the forthcoming action thriller, Bounty. This new deal coincides with Paramount Pictures’ recent purchase of the original spec script by Sascha Penn.
Smith’s own Overbrook Entertainment will produce alongside Adam Kolbrenner of Madhouse Entertainment. Storywise, the movie takes place in Boston and revolves around a man (Smith) who is wrongly convicted of murder. He escapes from prison determined to prove his innocence. This seemingly straightforward task turns into a total nightmare, however, after the widow of the man he supposedly killed puts a $10 million bounty on him, dead or alive.
It sounds like sterling stuff which will place Smith firmly back into action star territory. It’s been a while since he’s...

‘Jersey Boys’ movie review: Great music fails to save Clint Eastwood-directed film version of the 2005 Broadway musical (photo: John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons in ‘Jersey Boys’) Clint Eastwood’s semi-historically accurate biopic of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jersey Boys, is based on the hit 2005 Broadway musical — and it is a crushing bore. But we shall start with the positive: In Eastwood’s film, the music and the performances of the music (which are not the same thing) are great. That is to be expected, as the Jersey Boys movie cast is mostly composed from cast members of the stage show, including Tony winner John Lloyd Young, who happens to look a lot like Frankie Valli and who has a four-plus octave range. Lucky boy. Lloyd Young is also a serviceable actor with a number of (mostly stage) credits that did not require a piercing falsetto.

MGM’s plan to remake the award-winning 1980 musical drama The Idolmaker has so far had a bumpy ride. Ryan Gosling was originally attached to star, as well as intending to make it his directorial debut, but pulled out due to scheduling issues. Now, as Justin Timberlake closes a deal to produce, director Craig Brewer (Hustle And Flow, Footloose) has reportedly thrown his hat in the ring.
The Idolmaker was originally directed by Taylor Hackford (Ray), written by Edward Di Lorenzo (Miami Vice), and starred Ray Sharkey, Peter Gallagher and Joe Pantoliano. Craig Brewer, who directed Hustle & Flow and Footloose, is set to direct MGM’s reboot of The Idolmaker with Justin Timberlake, Hawk Koch and Gene Kirkwood producing.
In the original 1980 film Ray Sharkey starred as a mercenary music promoter who takes on two boys with the intent of turning them into teen idols. The story was based on the life of the life of rock promoter and manager Bob Marcucci, who discovered and promoted Frankie Avalon and Fabian.
According to Variety, the film was “one of the MGM library projects that were put into development in 2011 after the storied studio went through a pre-packaged bankruptcy in late 2010.” The studio began working on reboots like RoboCop and Poltergeist, and now The Idolmaker.
Brewer does have experience directing reboots, as he did with 2011′s Footloose. Now the question is, will Timberlake also star in the film he is producing? What do you think?...

If you.re like MGM, you.ll agree that cinema just doesn.t have enough remakes of thinly veiled biopics that aren.t biopics. In that respect, you should be happy to know that their upcoming update of 1980.s The Idolmaker has landed a director with his own history of music-infused filmmaking. Footloose director Craig Brewer will stand at the helm for an all-star trio of producers: Justin Timberlake, Hawk Koch, who produced the original, and Rocky producer Gene Kirkwood. (Fun fact: Kirkwood also produced the remake-defying Uhf!) Even though it isn.t clear in Variety.s story in what capacity this remake is coming, Brewer is a strong choice for the job. He bumped a lot of car trunks with his 2005 breakout drama Hustle and Flow - a film that is infinitely rewatchable to me for some reason - and followed that up with the bluesy Southern drama Black...

Filmmaker Craig Brewer ("Hustle and Flow," "Footloose") is in negotiations to team with Justin Timberlake on the remake of "The Idolmaker" at MGM.
Timberlake is producing and could potentially star in the Brewer-helmed project based on Taylor Hackford's 1980 drama.
The original followed a legendary music promoter and manager who discovered talented acts such as Frankie Avalon and Fabian. He sets out to turn two teenage boys into the next big stars.
Ryan Gosling was attached to the remake when it was first announced back in 2011, but that's no longer the case. Hawk Koch and Gene Kirkwood will produce.

It looked briefly as though Ryan Gosling might make his directorial debut with the re-working of Taylor Hackford’s 1980 music drama The Idolmaker, only for that idea to vanish back into the ether almost as quickly as it arrived. MGM appears to have found a director, one versed in blending music with movies, in Hustle & Flow/Footloose man Craig Brewer. The original film starred Ray Sharkey as a music promoter who stops at nothing to turn his two young talents into big stars. It’s based on the life of Robert Phillip "Bob" Marcucci, who worked his way up to become a personal manager, first at Chancellor Records, then his own Robert P. Marcucci Productions, where he discovered and shepherded the career of such musicians as ‘50s/’60s teen idol Fabian and fellow warbling heartthrob Frankie Avalon. Marcucci later went on to become an occasional movie producer, and died in...

Producers on the project include Gene Kirkwood, Hawk Koch and Justin Timberlake. The plot follows Vaccari as he tries to turn two unknown teens into stars. You can check out the trailer for the original film in the player below:...

Justin Timberlake has entered negotiations to produce the remake of Taylor Hackford's 1980 feature "The Idolmaker" at MGM.
The original followed a fictional music promoter and his girlfriend who worried about his obsession with breaking the next big musical act. It was inspired by the life of rock promoter/producer Bob Marcucci.
Timberlake currently has no plans to star in the new version, though that might change depending upon the script and director.
The project sounds similar to Jt's upcoming producing debut, a biopic of infamous record executive Neil Bogart entitled "Spinning Gold" which is aiming to shoot next year.
A few years ago, Ryan Gosling was previously signed on to star in and make his directorial debut on "The Idolmaker". he abruptly pulled out a few weeks later, citing a busy schedule.

Over two years ago, we learned that Ryan Gosling was going to direct and star in a remake of The Idolmaker at MGM, but a month after the story broke, the actor had to step away from the project due his busy future slate which included The Place Beyond the Pines and Gangster Squad at the time. Now the project is back in the spotlight, but not with Gosling. The Wrap has word that Justin Timberlake, hot off a spectacular performance at the VMAs (which included an *Nsync reunion), is gearing up to produce the remake of the 1980 film directed by Taylor Hackford. While Ryan Gosling is already well on his way with his directorial debut "How To Catch A Monster," slated for release next year, things could have been very different. A couple years ago, Gosling was attached to star in and direct a remake of Taylor Hackford's lesser known 1980 film "The Idolmaker." Less than a month after signing on he dropped the gig citing a busy a schedule, but now someone else with singing and acting talent is going to give it a go. The Wrap reports that Justin Timberlake is now slated to produce "The Idolmaker," though he's not attached to star, but given the material, you would have to think he's going to at least consider it. Pasadena, Calif. -- Al Pacino said Friday that he decided not to meet famed record producer and convicted killer Phil Spector before portraying him in an HBO movie – only to find he already had.
A friend showed Pacino a 20-year-old photo in which the actor was standing next to Spector. Pacino said he has no memory of the moment.
The movie, "Phil Spector," debuts in March. It focuses on the client-attorney relationship between Spector and Linda Kenney Baden, who represented him in his first trial after he was charged with the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. That ended in a mistrial, but Spector was convicted in a second trial and is now serving 19 years to life in prison.
Pacino wore a dizzying array of wigs in his portrayal of the eccentric Spector, whose "Wall of Sound" style was an integral part of pop music in the early 1960s. The actor...

Glenn here with a tuesday top ten on a topic dear to my heart, and Nathaniel's too. We both have a strange fondness for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual Golden Globe Awards. Beyond the gif-ready celebrities-getting-drunk setting and the organisation’s occasional flurries of bonkers brilliance (too many to list), I think I like most of all that their splitting of films between drama and musical/comedy means so many very worthy films get big awards and nominations that they otherwise wouldn’t have. The general rule of thumb is that musicals have a much easier time getting a nomination because there are far fewer of them and, thus, stick out more. Sure, Burlesque, Across the Universe, Nine, and Mamma Mia are recent examples of none too acclaimed musicals landing big time best picture nominations.

Innocence of Muslims / 'Desert Warrior' director Alan Roberts best-known for '70s soft-core porn The polemical anti-Islam "film" (actually, a cheap, grade Z amateur video), now has not only a producer, but also a director. The "Israeli entrepreneur Sam Bacile" has been exposed as the Egyptian Coptic Christian Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who allegedly misled all (or most) involved in the production. And Gawker has reported that Alan Roberts aka Robert Brownell, the director of a handful of softcore porn movies in the '70s and early '80s, helmed "Desert Warrior," a cheesy Arabian adventure that was to become -- following some sloppy overdubbing -- Innocence of Muslims. Besides the now infamous Islamophobic YouTube sensation, which has been blamed for riots in several Muslim countries from Tunisia to Pakistan, Alan Roberts' movie credits include several now long forgotten titles. That Ryan Gosling has had ambitions to direct is hardly a surprise. He once kicked the tires on a remake of the 1980 Taylor Hackford film “The Idolmaker," and at TIFF last year he plainly stated his intentions. “I wanted to work with George Clooney [on 'Ides Of March'] because he’s an actor turned director and I wanted to see that in action, and I’m learning a lot from Nicolas [Winding Refn] and Derek [Cianfrance] ...I’m just basically trying to treat it as a film school for myself right now before I start making my own films -- not to undervalue the movies themselves, I want to see those movies so I’m making them -- but I’m also trying to get as much out of them as I can before I kind of transition out of this and into that,” he explained. And it looks like he's ready to add writer/director to his resume.

Ryan Gosling, for now, will stay solely in front of the camera. Not that that's a bad thing.
The Oscar-nominated actor was set to make his directorial debut (and star in) a remake of the 1980 film "The Idolmaker," a thinly veiled biopic of music scout/promoter Bob Marcucci. Now, Deadline reports, Gosling has pulled out of the film, with his schedule just too tightly packed to fit such a big project.
It's a legitimate excuse, too. He's beginning production with his "Blue Valentine" director Derek Cianfrance on "The Place Beyond The Pines," now co-stars Bradley Cooper, will then face off with Sean Penn in the mob-thriller "Gangster Squad," and then head off to shoot "Logan's Run."
In between, he'll be promoting his new Steve Carrell co-starring romantic comedy, "Crazy, Stupid, Love.," which is expected to be a big hit, as well as his Cannes hit with Carey Mulligan, "Drive," and...

A couple weeks ago, we somehow missed reporting on the fact that Ryan Gosling had signed to write and direct a remake of Taylor Hackford's 1980 film The Idolmaker for MGM. (The original was a biopic of early rock and roll manager and eventual burnout Bob Marcucci.) Perhaps that omission was somehow driven by prescience, as that deal has fallen apart. Or, more to the point, Ryan Gosling realized that he has quite a lot to do, between promoting Drive and Crazy, Stupid, Love; shooting Derek Cianfrance's new film The Place Between the Pines and Ruben Fleischer's Gangster Squad; and possibly making Logan's Run with Nicolas Winding Refn. So he has withdrawn from the project, which remains on MGM's list of prioritized remakes [1]. Seemingly taking a page out of the James Franco Book of Left Turns, Oscar nominated hometown hero Ryan Gosling is expanding his repertoire of playing the blue-collar dreamboat, moustachioed weirdo, blue-collar boozer husband, walking Photoshop ad and stunt car driver to include director to his list of employable skills and has chosen a reboot of the 1980 flick The Idolmaker as his first film.
You can only make one directorial debut and Gosling has picked a head-scratcher for his, choosing a music biopic based on the life of promoter Bob Marcucci, who discovered Frankie Avalon and Fabian (I had to Google), instead of say a slow-burning indie, left-of-centre art flick or romance that would be more in line with audience expectations.
