The film was hastily shot, edited, and released in an attempt to cash in on the success of Conan the Barbarian (1982). When another Conan film was announced for release in 1984, director Joe D'Amato hastily shot the sequel, Ator the Invincible (1983).
Riffed by the guys from Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (1988), Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy, under the RiffTrax name, and also by Jonah Ray, Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount for the final episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return (2017).
Warren Hillman, Brooke Hart and Ron Carter aren't credited on-screen. These three names only appear on posters and in press material relating to the movie. They are pseudonyms for Edmund Purdom, Ritza Brown and Dakar respectively.
In an interview, Donatella Donati remembered that the original idea for making a "Hercules with a sword" / Conan movie came from Eduard Sarlui.
