- TriviaThe plot of this movie was inspired by the death squads of Brazil that were in the news at the time. John Milius pitched Clint Eastwood a scenario of Harry Callahan similarly encountering a corrupt police force of vigilantes assassinating those they could not convict. Eastwood liked the idea, particularly since he wanted to address the controversy caused by the original movie, Dirty Harry. Some viewers and critics believed that it supposedly endorsed fascism and vigilantism. Eastwood wanted to make it clear that Harry was not a vigilante.
- GoofsWhen Davis kills the Mob Boss in his apartment and kills McCoy in the garage, he can be seen putting a silencer on his .357 revolver. Once the silencer is attached, the shots he fires are very quiet. It is impossible to silence that type of revolver as most of the sound would still escape from the gap that is always present between the barrel and the cylinder.

Harry Callahan: A man's GOT to know his limitations.
- Crazy creditsThe credits are played over a hand (presumably Harry's) holding a 44 Magnum against a red background. As such, this is the only Dirty Harry movie in which the opening credits are not played over San Francisco scenery.
- Alternate versionsHarry Callahan's character name becomes Harry ''Callaghan'' in the Italian version and titles because the local distributor thought it sounded better.

Featured review
Dirty Harry Callahan is back and just as gritty as before. This sequel changes up the plot, but keeps the same style as its predecessor. Eastwood alone is enough to carry these movies, however his supporting cast does a good job. The action scenes are very strong for the time and are pretty brutal. The story is interesting and kept me fairly engaged throughout, even with the climax running a little long. Magnum Force is a worthy follow-up a groundbreaking film.
