Mediocre but very successful rendition based on the classic picaresque book written by Francisco Delicado

This amusing film packs a description of the life in Rome's underworld during the first third of the 16th century . It stars Rampin (Enzo Zerusico) who lives with his aunt Napolitana (Diana Lorys) , he is a rogue who dedicates himself to swindle , fakes and tricks . An old woman gives him a servant , the sexually precocious Lozana (Maria Rosa Omaggio) , she makes an agreement with him so that he becomes his pimp , for a time , her prostitute , servant and lover . She installs in a house she owns , she begins her new life as a prostitute and her panderer Rampin . After few years, she becomes the madame of a brothel .

¨La Lozana Andaluza¨ film displays a satiric line (as well as the original book and other novels of the picaresque theme , as Lazarillo De Tormes conceived as a strong critic done by the humanists) , because it unveils the moral decadence of Rome , and all the characters displayed — from the bishops to the villains — appear surrounded by a world of corruption , deceives and prostitution . There is a lot of nudism , erotic scenes , scatological and the sexual elements prevail during the cinematic narration : there are descriptions of a ménage à trois , sexual organs , uninhibited allusions and other lousy elements . But here stands out the gorgeous Maria Rosario Omaggio and her famous shower that was a total success by the time . The picture is full of known secondary actors, usual of the 60, and 70s , such as : Carlos Ballesteros , Rafael Alonso , Alfonso Del Real , Josele Román , Rafael Hernández , José María Prada , Mirta Miller , Francisco Cecilio , May Heatherly , Emilio Fornet , Fedra Lorente , Ricardo Diaz , Antonio Casas , Junior dressed in woman clothes and many others . Being freely based on ¨The Portrait of Lozana: The Lusty Andalusian Woman , it is a book written in Venice by the Spanish editor of the Renaissance , Francisco Delicado , in 1528, after he escaped from Rome due to the anti-Spanish sentiment that up rose after the sack of Rome a year earlier . Published anonymously , and was considered as obscene , the book is considered as descendant of Celestina (written some thirty years before by Fernando De Rojas) because of the literary genre , the novel in dialogue , and one of the earliest manifestations of the picaresque novel . Lozana's influence became evident in Italian contemporary works . It is an eloquent , realistic testimony of the manners and life in the Roman underworld from the years 1513 to 1524 and the ulterior attack by the imperial forces of Charles V in 1527 that led to the finalisation of the first period of the Renaissance.

It contains an evocative and atmospheric musical score by Antón Garcia Abríl . Colorful cinematography by Raúl Pérez Cubero , filmed on location in Rome , Toledo , Cáceres and Alcalá De Henares . This Spanish/Italian motion picture co-production was regularly directed by Vicente Escrivá . He was a writer , producer and director , known for successful films throughout a long career with hits as Balarrasa (1951) , Sor Intrépida (1952) , Un Traje Blanco (1956) , Montoyas and Tarantos (1989) , 2 films starred by Rafael : El Angel , El Golfo , and 3 starred by Maria Rosario Omaggio : Visanteta Estáte Quieta , El Virgo De Visanteta and La Lozana Andaluza . He also made some TV series such as : Lleno Por Favor , Manos a La Obra , Farmacia De Guardia , and Réquiem En Granada at his best . Rating : 4.5/10 , average .
