Moments after Daisy Jones & The Six received nine Emmy nominations on Wednesday morning, executive producers Scott and Lauren Neustadter fielded a congratulatory phone call from Reese Witherspoon.
“She was so thrilled for everybody,” Lauren Neustadter told Deadline of Witherspoon, who produced the series through her Hello Sunshine banner. “She’s been such a part of all of this and blazes the trail that makes all of this possible. We’re very grateful for her.”
Daisy Jones & The Six is competing in the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series Or Movie category, and it also earned first-time nominations for stars Riley Keough and Camila Morrone.
Keough told Deadline she had her phone on Do Not Disturb when nominations were announced, but once she received enough phone calls to override the feature, she told Deadline she “had a feeling that something happened.”

It was the bromance no one saw coming. In January 2009, budding filmmaker Lynn Shelton made her Sundance debut with her third feature film, an improvised offering called “Humpday.” Starring fellow filmmakers Mark Duplass and Joshua Leonard, the film put a nutty twist on the buddy comedy, following a pair of long-time best pals who decide to make their own homegrown porno, featuring the two of them having sex. One problem: they’re not actually gay, and the idea — a product of drunken one-ups-manship — freaks both of them out.
The result was an amiable comedy about two dudes forced to grow up in unexpected ways. Made for less than $20,000, the comedy was a hit on the festival circuit, earning Shelton a special jury Prize at Sundance, the John Cassavetes Award, and inclusion on the National Board of Review’s list of top indie films of the year. Magnolia Pictures picked the film up at Sundance,...

After Nipsey Hussle died, Yg spoke at his memorial at the Staples Center, called him “black motherfucking Jesus” during an emotional Coachella set, and delayed the release of his own album. Their friendship was a close one that transcended gang ties; they spoke truth to power on the defining political protest song of our time, “Fdt,” a mafioso g-funk middle-fingers-raised eruption of disbelieving rage that combined Yg’s knack for agitation with Nipsey’s view that life for black folks in South Central is a marathon test of never-ending endurance.

"I woke up, I looked at my phone and I saw that I had a lot of missed calls and text messages from my publicist being like, 'Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! You need to do interviews,'" the actress told E! News by phone. "I kind of knew that the nominations were happening today; I didn't know what time they usually happened. I was obviously trying to...

When grunge slaughtered hair metal in the early Nineties, all that remained in its wake on hard-rock radio were a bunch of pity parties by singers who hated themselves and the world. And that’s pretty much how it’s been for the past quarter century. The majority of mainstream heavy hits in the past year have been about bad relationships (From Ashes to New’s “Crazy”), hating haters (Five Finger Death Punch’s “Sham Pain”), macho declarations about rising above existential bullshit (everything by Godsmack) and, oddly, rats (Ghost...

Taylor in the 1960 screen version of The Time Machine.
By Lee Pfeiffer
If the year 2014 proved to be an exceptionally cruel one in terms of the number of legendary celebrities who passed away, the new year is off to an equally depressing start with the news that Rod Taylor has passed away at age 84. Taylor, who was two days away from his 85th birthday, died suddenly from a heart attack following a dinner party at his home. He was surrounded by friends and family when the end came. Taylor was a solid leading man who came to prominence in the late 1950s. Although Australian by birth, the ruggedly handsome Taylor could effectively play Brits, Irishmen and Americans with convincing ease. He first gained attention with supporting roles in high profile, big Hollywood studio productions in the late 1950s such as "Raintree County" and "Separate Tables". His breakthrough role came in...
