“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.

Paul Evans, who has spent 10 years working as a trade union official in the film and TV industry, will lead on the trade body’s work seeking improvements in pay and working conditions from networks and producers. Simon Shearer-Wright moved to Cpl last month to take on the Head of Talent and Hr role. Reporting to CEO Danielle Lux, he is overseeing the Red Arrow Studios-backed producer’s strategy for sourcing, growing and retaining talent both within the company and on specific productions.

Michaela Coel’s “I May Destroy You” scored three nominations, as did Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe.” “Normal People” leads Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal were nominated in the acting categories.
The BBC leads the field with 40 nominations across the 28 categories, followed by Channel 4 with 17 and Sky with 12.
The nominations were announced on Tuesday via livestream by British television presenter Ore Oduba, and the winners will be announced March 16 at a ceremony streamed live on the Rts website, hosted by “The Masked Singer” judge Jonathan Ross.
Chair of the awards, Big Talk Productions CEO Kenton Allen, said: “The standard of entries has been outstanding and demonstrated the breadth of high-quality content that has informed, entertained and kept audiences going through what has been such a uniquely difficult time.
