Distributor Banijay has struck deals for three European versions of a spin-off that will for the first time take the show beyond the confines of a studio.

Lego Masters: Out of the Box will see teams of skilled builders embark on a road trip through their country, constructing Lego masterpieces inspired by unique locations. Each challenge is intrinsically tied to the iconic surroundings — delivering builds that become a part of that environment.

The spin-offs have been greenlit on Rtl in the Netherlands, Nelonen in Finland and Tvn in Poland.

A new study confirms what many women in TV production already suspect: males continue to outnumber females when it comes to how reality shows are made.

Men make up 58.4% of executive producers, supervising producers, and show creators, while women only make up 41.5%, according to a study commissioned by the Geena Davis Institute, Banijay Entertainment and Everywoman Studios.

Across the United States, U.K., Brazil and France, three in four reality TV creators are men (73.7% compared with 25.7% women). This gender difference among creators is most pronounced in the U.S. (80.6% men compared with 16.1% women), the study says.

The study was produced over three years (2021–2023) in those four countries. Shows in the study were limited to those that either have consistent stars or contestants throughout the season or series, or a consistent story told over the course of several episodes. Fox has unveiled premiere dates for its fall schedule, including new and returning scripted, unscripted and animation series.

The 2024-2025 television season kicks off with the series premiere of the new animated comedy Universal Basic Guys on Sunday, Sept. 8, immediately following the Fox NFL doubleheader. Universal Basic Guys will make its time-period premiere as part of Fox’s Animation Domination block below.

Here’s the Lowe down: Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” finally has a Season 5 premiere date, almost a year and a half after its previous episode aired. “9-1-1: Lone Star” will return on Monday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m., kicking off a premiere week for Fox and marking the first new episode of the Rob Lowe series since May 2023. Since 2008, the TV academy has honored the work of reality and competition series presenters with the Emmy Award for Best Reality/Competition Host. During this year’s first-round nominations voting period, academy members from eight branches must choose from 48 entrants, which is down from 2023’s total of 67 and keeps the number of available nomination slots at five.

Included on the 2024 ballot is reigning victor RuPaul Charles, who has prevailed on all eight of his consecutive bids for “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Also seeking another win is Jeff Probst (“Survivor”), who dominated the category from 2008 to 2011 but has not been nominated since.

The peer groups allowed to vote for nominations in this category are casting directors, daytime programming, performers, producers, production executives, professional representatives, reality, and television executives. These voters have until June 24 to choose from the options listed below, and the lineup will be announced on July 17.

Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade is getting deeper into business with Will Arnett.

“We’ve got a new deal set with Will. He’s been phenomenal on Lego Masters. We’ve developed a few other shows with him. He’s just a great guy. And he’s Canadian. He’s a nice guy,” Wade said Monday at the Banff World Media Festival during a Summit Series keynote as he unveiled an overall deal with the prolific actor and his Electric Avenue Productions banner as part of an overall producing deal. The agreement calls for Arnett to exclusively develop unscripted content for Fox.

Nickelodeon has revealed a star-studded list of nominees for its annual Kids’ Choice Awards. Leading the pack with six noms is Taylor Swift, followed by Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé, with four noms each.

The series has been on hiatus for a year, but Fox is expected to give it a big promotional push as it succeeds the original 9-1-1 on Mondays at 8/7c.

16 months between seasons doesn’t bode well for the show’s future, but there’s a chance the numbers will still be strong enough to stay on the air.

9-1-1: Lone Star is being paired with Rescue Hi-Surf, a new drama series that will air on Mondays at 9/8c.

The Arielle Kebbel-led drama has also been confirmed to air along with the 2025 Super Bowl, hinting that Fox believes it will be a massive hit in the fall.

The sixth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards nominations were unveiled, and MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race and Peacock’s The Traitors lead the pack.

Both competition series coincide in the Best Competition Series and Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series categories. RuPaul and Alan Cumming will vie for Best Show Host and Male Star of the Year for their respective shows.

Drag Race also scored a nod in the Best Lifestyle Show: Fashion/Beauty category, while The Traitors star Phaedra Parks picked up a Female Star of the Year nom.

Michael Strahan and Gordon Ramsay kicked off the show in the theater-in-the-sound setting, and it took all of 20 seconds before Ramsay dropped his first f-bomb. The duo riffed about their pairing as hosts and Ramsay cussed some more before they brought out Jeff Collins, President of Advertising Sales, Marketing and Brand Partnerships. “The Fox portfolio is designed to drive maximum impact for your brand,” he said in a statement that absolutely no one has ever heard before at a NY upfront.

MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race and Peacock’s The Traitors lead the nominations for the sixth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, with five apiece.

Both series will vie for best competition series, best ensemble cast in an unscripted series, best show host (RuPaul and Alan Cumming) and male star of the year (RuPaul and Cumming, again). Drag Race also is up for best lifestyle show: fashion/beauty, while Traitors‘ Phaedra Parks earned a nom for female star of the year.

They renewed their remaining drama, The Cleaning Lady, for a 12-episode third season under new showrunners, to start.

The Cleaning Lady, which suffered a great loss when leading man Adan Canto died, was forced to pivot midseason, and it will be pivoting again for its third season.

While we don’t have details, perhaps divesting the original creative team from being so closely related to their story will give the show an opportunity to thrive.

Exclusive: Details have emerged about the circumstances surrounding DJ Nurre’s rather abrupt exit from Endemol Shine North America. As Deadline reported exclusively Monday, Nurre, one of the company’s top unscripted executives, has left after six years.

According to sources, Nurre was let go for violating company policy following an investigation into alleged misconduct. I hear an outside firm was hired to examine claims of alleged sexual harassment related to an incident during production and its aftermath.

“As per our policy, we do not share specifics about employees leaving the company,” a spokesperson for Endemol Shine North America said in a statement to Deadline, declining further comment.

Nurre’s attorney, Michael Weinsten, issued a statement to Deadline about the firing.

“My client was terminated for allegedly violating company policy,” he said. “To be 100% clear, he vehemently denies having engaged in harassment of anyone in any form at any time in his career.

Exclusive: DJ Nurre, one of Endemol Shine North America’s top unscripted executives, has left the company after six years.

Nurre, who was EVP, Unscripted Series at the Banijay-owned production company, has exec produced series including MasterChef and Lego Masters since joining the company in March 2018.

Deadline understands that Nurre has already left the company, which confirmed his departure. It’s not clear what his next move is.

Nurre’s appointment back in 2018 was Sharon Levy’s first major move when she joined the company as President, Unscripted and Scripted Television. She is now CEO of the producer.

In addition to MasterChef and its spinoffs including MasterChef Junior and Lego Masters, which is going in to its fifth season at Fox, he has exec produced series including CBS’ Come Dance with Me, TBS’ Wipeout, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and NBC’s recent Deal or No Deal reboot Deal or No Deal Island.

Retail giant Walmart is exploring the possibility of acquiring electronics maker Vizio as it looks for new ways to broaden its reach in the digital advertising space, according to a report published on Tuesday.

The story, which first appeared in the Wall Street Journal, said Walmart could grab Vizio for more than $2 billion, a move intended to help the retailer sell more digital advertising space, including some for goods sold within its retail and online stores.

Discussions between the two companies are still ongoing, and may not result in a deal, the Journal caution. Still, news of the possible arrangement caused Vizio’s stock price to rise 25 percent during the trading day on Tuesday. By the end of the trading day, one share of Vizio was listed for $9.75, or 24 percent higher compared to its close of $7.47 per share on Monday.

The show celebrated some of the best directors working in television, with awards in a variety of categories ranging from TV dramas and sitcoms to commercials and reality TV.

The Directors Guild of America announced the nominees for television, commercials and documentary for its 76th annual DGA Awards today, a list headed by three-time winner Bill Hader and installments of the third and final season of HBO’s “Succession,” which claimed four of the five Drama Series nomination slots – the fifth going to an episode of fellow HBO hour “The Last of Us.”

The Comedy Series nomination lineup features the directors of a pair of episodes of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” along with two installments of FX’s “The Bear” (including a repeat nomination for showrunner Christopher Storer – the acclaimed “Fishes” edition from Season 2 of the series – and a first for comedian and actor Ramy Youssef).

The Apple TV+ limited series “Lessons in Chemistry” also scored multiple bids in the Movies For Television/Limited Series category with three.

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced its nominees for the 2024 DGA Awards in the television and commercial categories, as well as the documentary nominees.

HBO’s Succession led the TV nominations, taking four spots in the drama series category, with The Last of Us also receiving a nod. In the comedy category, Ted Lasso and The Bear each got two nominations and Barry was nominated once. In the limited series space, Lessons in Chemistry got three nods, with All The Light We Cannot See and Daisy Jones & The Six rounding out the category.

Last year, Succession also swept the drama race, earning all five slots in the dramatic series category.

In the documentary category, Bobi Wine: The People’s President, Beyond Utopia, Kokomo City, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie and 20 Days in Mariupol received nominations.
