Actor Sam Claflin initially overstated his musical experience. After an embarrassing audition using Elton John, Claflin was still in the running due to his acting talent and used the pandemic lock down to work with vocal coaches and guitar teachers over Zoom. The change in his musical range from early audition to filming was described as "dramatic."
On August 15th, 2023, Stevie Nicks- the inspiration for the character of Daisy Jones- shared on social media that she had seen the show. She said:
"Just finished watching [Daisy Jones and the Six] for the 2nd time. In the beginning, it wasn't really my story, but Riley seamlessly, soon became my story. It brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story. It was very emotional for me. I just wish Christine [McVie] could have seen it. She would have loved it. Hopefully it will continue..."

The book the series is based on was inspired by the author watching the Fleetwood Mac concert The Story of Fleetwood Mac (1997). The 1997 concert was the first for the band after Lindsey Buckingham, the lead male vocalist/guitarist and ex-boyfriend of lead singer Stevie Nicks, left the band in 1987. The concert was full of tension and looks between Nicks and Buckingham (Nicks later admitted through her songs the two had romantically reconnected during this time), building to an intense rendition of the song Silver Springs, with Nicks and Buckingham staring each other down and singing directly and emotionally to each other. Just a few songs later, Nicks would sing the song Landslide tenderly, with the two gazing at each other lovingly with Buckingham becoming overwhelmed. The author of Daisy Jones was struck by this relationship, and what had kept a fire burning between them for forty years at the time, and was inspired to write the characters of Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne. Daisy and Billy's wardrobe in the series is even inspired by Nicks and Buckingham's clothing.
Before filming began, the cast played a mini concert in character as their fictional band to a crowd of Amazon employees, family, friends and show cast and crew to get into character and experience the real-time feedback.
It was Sebastian Chacon's idea to change drummer Warren's last name from Rhodes to Rojas. He did not want it erased that he was a Latino member of an all white rock band in the 1970s, which had never occurred in the time period.
