Elizabeth Olsen had already been playing the Marvel superhero Scarlet Witch for years before she starred in the spinoff WandaVision. Despite Marvel’s success with movies, however, Olsen felt doing a television series like WandaVision was a huge risk for both her and the studio.

Olsen already fulfilled her contractual obligations as the Avenger Scarlet Witch when she was offered WandaVision. The limited series would be one of Disney +’s first live-action superhero streaming shows, and took an experimental approach to Marvel’s familiar formula. WandaVision would have Scarlet Witch using her reality warping powers to live out the sitcoms she’d seen as a child. But Olsen had a few reservations regarding the series.
“My contract with Marvel was done. Kevin Feige, who runs Marvel, had me come into his office, and he pitched me WandaVision.

The DC Universe has numerous projects in the pipeline, including a TV series centered on Booster Gold. Currently, we have little information about the show other than its announcement, but James Gunn has stated that just because something is announced doesn’t guarantee it will be released.
A few months ago, credible sources began reporting that Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani was cast in the role, which disappointed some fans who felt he didn’t physically match the character.
This speculation is particularly heightened given that fans have favored actors like Antony Starr and Chris Pratt for the role. Nanjiani has frequently been seen with James Gunn and the Superman cast at various events, fueling further rumors.
Recently, James Gunn shared an image showcasing the confirmed roles for the DC Universe, which included Nanjiani as Booster Gold. When asked if this was a confirmation of Nanjiani’s casting, Gunn responded with a clear “no.

Dcu has plenty of projects in development, just one of many is a TV series focusing on Booster Gold. We know nothing about the show at this point, only that it’s been announced. However, James Gunn recently said that just beacuse something was announced, doesn’t mean it’s going to get released.
A couple of months ago, credible sources started reporting that ‘Eternals’ actor Kumail Nanjiani has been cast in the role. Fans were disappointed since Nanjiani doesn’t physically fit with the role.
Especially in light of the fact that actors such as Antony Starr and Chris Pratt have been put as the favorites for the role by fans. Nanjiani has been often seen with James Gunn and the cast of ‘Superman’ at other events which further strengthened the speculations.

Sweetpea starring Ella Purnell premiered today, and I am honestly already hooked! The fact that we hear Rhiannon's dialogue, and sometimes her thoughts match what we think as well let's not lie, is a great story device especially because she's a wallflower and has hardly anyone to talk to. Let's get into our review of Sweetpea episode 1, "Sorry For Your Loss, on Starz. Spoilers Below.
Right off the bat, you feel for Rhiannon. She walks and moves around in life with no one noticing her. Not on the bus, not at the market, and especially not at work. Even the guy who does notice her a bit and sleeps with Rhiannon only replies to her texts with emojis. Rude. Her family life is tough as well with her mom walking out, and her sister having moved to France and not really responsive or communicative. This poor girl.

At the start of Sweetpea, the new Starz/Sky Atlantic series adaptation of Cj Skuse’s novel of the same name, Rhiannon Lewis (Ella Purnell) is having a bad life. In voice-over, she catalogues the people she’d like to kill in a list that ranges from the man spreader on the bus and the cashier at the store who is always on the phone, all the way up to her high school nemesis, Julia Blenkingsopp (Nicôle Lecky).
Rhiannon is a quintessential horror protagonist. She is shy and meek, working a dead end job as the receptionist at a newspaper where she is taken advantage of by work colleagues. She is introverted and overlooked, pining for a romance with a shitty guy who won’t acknowledge her in public. And she still lives at home with her father Tommy, who is in the hospital with a life-threatening illness that Rhiannon...

Death has been on Elizabeth Olsen’s mind lately. It started — or, rather, became much more acute — on a recent helicopter ride. The actress was on an East Coast press tour for her new movie, His Three Daughters, and Netflix scheduled a junket day in New York City, followed by a screening out in the Hamptons. The tight turnaround meant that Olsen, her co-star Natasha Lyonne and a studio rep had only one way to get there in time.
“I’ll never do it again,” she says. “It was 45 minutes straight of me creating a narrative about how I’m going to die.” As she’s telling this story, she divulges that, actually, she thinks about her own death all the time. The notion of the chopper hurtling over greater Long Island takes its place in line behind car accidents and random acts of violence.

Indie filmmaker Azazel Jacobs makes a true New York movie with “His Three Daughters,” his profound and moving drama about a trio of sisters hemorrhaging emotions about their father, who is dying in the next room. Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen deliver career-class performances as Katie, Rachel, and Christina, respectively, who stress over how to write their father’s obituary and how to come together despite years of spite between them. And tensions bubble up in a monologue-driven, theatrical directing style where Jacobs holds on the performances in long takes where other directors might want to cut to a reaction shot or somewhere else.
“I wrote it to a cutting rhythm. I tried to write the script so it would move exactly how I wanted it to film,” Jacobs, who has explored New York stories before, from “French Exit” to “The Lovers” and his breakout, “Momma’s Man,” said in a recent IndieWire interview.

Elizabeth Olsen is known to Marvel fandom as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, who first appeared in an end credits scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. Since then, she has starred in five movies and a miniseries in the franchise. However, acting in Avengers: Age of Ultron was not her first time reacting to a whole lot of nothingness.

A single-location New York drama about quarreling siblings played by Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen? We’re all in.

The Other Black Girl will not return.
Hulu has canceled the comedy series based on the book of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris after a single season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
First put in development in April 2020 before Tara Duncan signed on to serve as president of Disney’s Bipoc-focused studio Onyx Collective, the 10-episode satirical comedy about the publishing world dropped its full season in September to impressive reviews. The series currently has an 86 percent rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences seem to have rejected The Other Black Girl with that score sitting at a lackluster 50 percent among viewers.
Danielle Henderson (Sorry for Your Loss) originally was set to serve as showrunner but was ultimately replaced by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey. Exec producers on the series included Onyx’s Duncan, Rashida Jones, Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, Adam Fishbach and author Harris.

Nominations for the 39th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards were announced today by Amber Iman and George Abud, two stars of Broadway’s “Lempicka.” The Lortels honor outstanding achievement in Off-Broadway theater. The 2024 ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 5 at NYU Skirball Center. The Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League and Lucille Lortel Theatre, with additional support provided by Tdf.
It’s common for productions to begin their life Off-Broadway before transferring to the Main Stem, so many of this year’s Tony Awards hopefuls are among the list of Lortel nominations. A newly unsealed document in a potential class-action lawsuit alleges that Facebook shut down Facebook Watch to keep Netflix among its top advertisers — and to keep ads for Netflix series and films off of emerging competitors like Snapchat, a person with knowledge of the lawsuit tells IndieWire. And along the way, the two traded lots and lots of your data — allegedly.
The suit, filed by attorney Brian J. Dunne on behalf of other Facebook advertisers, seeks billions in damages. If they win at trial or settle, the exact dollar amount would come down to a percentage of Facebook’s overall advertising revenue from 2016-2019.
Before Facebook launched streaming-video platform Facebook Watch in August 2017, Netflix spent about $40 million per year on Facebook ads, per the letter from Dunne to a Judge Donato. Shortly after Mark Zuckerberg doomed Facebook Watch by decimating its budget in 2018, the spend increased to $150 million; two years later,...

Exclusive: Big Beach, the production company behind Starz’s Vida and Facebook’s Sorry For Your Loss, has landed television rights to Alexandra Tanner’s debut novel Worry.
Worry follows two siblings-turned-roommates, one a 28-year-old media employee, navigating an absurd world on the verge of calamity. The book has been described as a “Seinfeldian” novel of existentialism and sisterhood.
Lesley Arfin, co-creator of Netflix comedy series Love, which starred Gillian Jacobs, has signed on to write the pilot episode alongside Tanner.
Worry was released last week by Scribner and was described by the New York Times as a “fabulous comic novel of young adult angst.”
Set in 2019, it follows 28-year-old Jules Gold — anxious, artistically frustrated, and internet-obsessed — who has been living alone in the apartment she once shared with the man she thought she’d marry when her younger sister Poppy comes to crash. Indefinitely. Poppy, a year and a...

In a cruel twist of fate, Sorry For Your Loss, one of the best shows about grief to premiere in recent years, may soon be wiped from the internet entirely. Last month, Meta announced it's shuttering the Facebook Watch originals group, a move that brings the company's foray into the streaming wars to an end.
The shutdown has been a long time coming: Facebook shifted away from scripted programming in early 2020, when it canceled Sorry For Your Loss after two seasons, and in June 2022, the Facebook Watch app was discontinued on Apple TVs and other devices. But while ongoing series like Red Table Talk are being shopped elsewhere, the demise of Facebook Watch means the service's back catalog could disappear at any moment — and with that threat in mind, there's never been a better time to check out Elizabeth Olsen's poignant half-hour drama.

Meta is shutting down its Facebook Watch original programming, a company spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter, leaving the future of shows like Red Table Talk in limbo as production company Westbrook Studios shops around the talk show for a new home.
The shuttering of the Facebook Watch originals division, first reported by Deadline, comes as Meta implements wide-ranging cost cuts across the company, with the most recent including a round of layoffs that is expected to impact 10,000 employees. Included in the cuts is Mina Lefevre, the former MTV executive who led development and original programming for Facebook Watch.
One of Facebook Watch’s most well-known shows was Red Table Talk, the talk show co-hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. The series had five seasons on Facebook Watch and led to a spinoff series, Red Table Talk: The Estefans, with Gloria Estefan, Emily Estefan and Lili Estefan.

After appearing in her sister Mary-Kate and Ashley’s projects in a child, Elizabeth Olsen took a break from on-screen acting until her film debut in 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene. Amid broad cost-cutting moves, Meta is shuttering the Facebook Watch originals group, whose small slate of shows included the hit “Red Table Talk” hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, Variety has confirmed.
A Meta representative confirmed that the company is shuttering its originals group but declined to provide further comment. The news was first reported by Deadline.
With the shutdown of Facebook Watch originals, Mina Lefevre, head of development and programing for the group, is leaving the company. Lefevre joined Meta (then called Facebook) in 2017, after serving as MTV’s head of scripted development. At Meta, Lefevre reported to Ricky Van Veen, VP of creative strategy.
Lefevre’s exit comes as Meta is cutting 10,000 jobs across the company, coming after it laid off 11,000 staffers at the end of 2022. On Wednesday, Meta announced first-quarter 2023 earnings that beat Wall Street expectations, as its revenue grew 3% for the period.

[This article contains spoilers for the April 9 episode of Succession.]
“You are what you do, Logan. In the end, you’re just what you do.”
Those words represent the cruelest thing Frank (Peter Friedman) can think to say to Brian Cox’s Logan Roy in the pilot for HBO’s Succession. Logan has just told Frank that, after 35 years of service, he’s being pushed into a secondary role, in part because Logan is considering which of his reprobate children will be taking over his corporate empire.
In the end, you’re just what you do.
Frank’s job was saved because, of course, the Succession pilot ends with Logan experiencing a brain hemorrhage on one of the family’s private helicopters — one of several times in the show’s run that Logan’s demise was approached asymptotically but never reached.
Death, though, is not an asymptote. Sunday night’s Succession was a shocking gut-punch of an episode, but...

Desperate housewives never got out of style on television, and in “Love & Death,” Elizabeth Olsen is playing a particularly troubled one. The “Wandavision” and “Sorry for Your Loss” actor stars in the final trailer for the HBO Max series, released this Thursday.
In “Love & Death,” Olsen portrays Candy Montgomery, a real-life Texas housewife charged in 1980 for the murder of her friend and neighbor Betty Gore after Gore was found dead in her house from 41 axe wounds. During Montgomery’s trial, it came to light that she was cheating on her husband Pat with Gore’s husband Allan, and she pled self-defense by claiming that Gore attacked her after discovering evidence of the affair. Montgomery was eventually declared not guilty by the jury, in a verdict that prompted outcry from Gore’s family and their small-town community.

Celebrities, they’re just like us. Lauren Graham found fame with Gilmore Girls and became known for her quirky characters. However, Graham isn’t immune to being star-struck despite her fame and success as an actor.
Graham recently revealed that she was so star-struck with Bernadette Peters that she wandered into the Broadway star’s fitting while working on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
Lauren Graham on meeting Bernadette Peters
Peters is a star, and it’s understandable that even fellow celebrities worship her talent. Gilmore Girls star Graham recently sat down with Sam Pancake to talk about her years in show business. After years of playing an unstable witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elizabeth Olsen is bringing her trademark intensity to a real-life story. The first trailer for the “WandaVision” and “Sorry for Your Loss” star’s new limited series “Love & Death” has been released, showcasing the actor’s transformation into the notorious murder suspect Candy Montgomery. Additionally, HBO Max revealed that the series will premiere April 27.
Candy Montgomery was a Texas housewife charged in 1980 for the murder of her friend and neighbor Betty Gore, after Gore was found dead in her house from 41 axe wounds. During Montgomery’s trial, it came to light that she was cheating on her husband Pat with Gore’s husband Allan, and she pled self-defense by claiming that Gore attacked her after discovering evidence of the affair. Montgomery was eventually declared not guilty by the jury, in a verdict that prompted outcry from Gore’s family and the community.
