The old fashioned supernatural horror film Night of the Caregiver, will be receiving a theatrical and VOD release on August 15th in North America (digital/DVD release will follow this fall) courtesy of ITN Studios and the Arrow In The Head Show welcomed Director Joe Cornet and Producer Alexander Nevsky to talk about their first foray into the cinematic macabre. The horror debut for both Cornet and Nevsky is about: Hospice nurse Julia Rowe is hired to be caregiver for Lillian Gresham, who lives in an isolated house in a remote area. Fathom Events to release thriller and companion piece American Boogeywoman in US cinemas.

Voltage Pictures has secured worldwide rights to the thriller American Boogeyman, based on the untold story of the intrepid detective and rookie FBI profiler who pursued serial killer Ted Bundy.

Daniel Farrands wrote and directs the project, which is currently in post and stars Chad Michael Murray, known for his roles in Warner Bros.’ House Of Wax, Lionsgate’s The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts Of Georgia, and the CW’s Riverdale, as Bundy.

Rounding out the key cast are Genre actress Lin Shaye and Holland Roden.

Exclusive: Voltage Pictures has taken worldwide rights to American Boogeywoman, based on the early life of one of America’s most notorious female serial killers, Aileen Wuornos. Charlize Theron won an Oscar for playing her in the 2003 film Monster.

Currently in postproduction, the film stars Cobra Kai star Peyton List as young Wuornos and is written and directed by horror filmmaker Daniel Farrands.

Exclusive: Abigail Breslin (Zombieland: Double Tap), Thomas Jane (Predator) and Malin Akerman (Billions) are joining the cast of comedy-horror feature Slayers, previously known as With Teeth.

Oscar-nominee Breslin has taken the lead role in the movie and signed on as a producer. Previously announced cast includes Kara Hayward (Moonrise Kingdom), Lydia Hearst (The Haunting Of Sharon Tate) and Jack Donnelly (Atlantis).

Pic follows a group of internet influencers who are drawn to a reclusive, seductive billionaire’s mansion (Akerman), only to find themselves trapped in the lair of an evil vampire. The only way out is to be saved by a famous online gamer (Hayward) and an old school vampire hunter (Jane). Breslin plays the role of Jules, a smart-mouthed fitness guru who faces off against the vampires.

K. Asher Levin (Cougars Inc) is directing and producing. Breslin will be an on-set producer, working closely with Levin, Daniel Cummings and Zack Imbrogno.

Epix has decided to push back the release of their upcoming six-part docuseries, Helter Skelter: An American Myth. The show was scheduled to premiere on June 14th and while a replacement date has yet to be set, the network felt it wasn’t the right time to release it due to its subject matter, which includes Charles Manson’s plan to incite a race war called Helter Skelter.

Last year marked the 50-year anniversary of the murder of Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojtek Frykowski and Steven Parent, and the series will chronicle both their murders as well as the Manson Family history using interviews with former family members as well as journalists who were there to cover it. We’ll also be getting never-before-seen images and archival footage.

50 years after the Tate-labianco murders and three years on from his death, Charles Manson is having a moment in the spotlight. Last year saw Quentin Tarantino’s excellent Once Upon a Time in Hollywood explore the crimes, with the somewhat less excellent recent movies The Haunting of Sharon Tate and Charlie Says covering the same territory. Now, Epix is getting in on the action with a six-part docuseries titled Helter Skelter.

Named after The Beatles song that the Manson killers daubed in blood on a wall, the series bills itself as a comprehensive look at the origins of Manson’s hippie cult, its key members, their philosophies and the crimes with which they terrorized Hollywood in the late 1960s. It comes courtesy of An Inconvenient Truth producer Lesley Chilcott, Berlanti Productions, Rogue Atlas Productions and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television.

More commonly known as the Razzies, the awards ceremony honor the worst achievements in film for the previous year.

The CGI-filled musical adaptation of the hit Broadway sensation took home six awards, the most of any film, including Worst Picture and Worst Director for Tom Hooper. Other awards included Worst Supporting Actor (James Corden), Worst Supporting Actress (Rebel Wilson), Worst Screen Combo (Any Two Half-Feline/Half Human Hairballs) and Worst Screenplay.

Hooper’s win places him in the exclusive group of people who have won both an Oscar and a Razzie.

Why not take a look at the lighter side of the film industry for a moment, right? The 40th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards were just held, albeit without an audience, culminating in Cats pulling a sweep, including of course the coveted (?) prize of Worst Picture. A total of six wins went its way, with Rambo: Last Blood being the only other title to grab more than one prize, as it was given two categories to claim as its own. With all that is going on in the world the winners of the Razzies aka Golden Raspberry Awards , would fall under the category of most trivial , but sometimes in the face of adversity it might be good to remind ourselves there is still a light side to take our minds off far more serious things.

The film also won for Worst Screen Combo for what the awards cattily described as “any two half-feline/half-human hairballs” from the film.

Travolta won for both his work in “The Fanatic” and “Trading Paint,” and Duff won for her film “The Haunting of Sharon Tate,” in which she played the iconic ’60s starlet in a horror film.

Events all across the globe have been cancelled and postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic. But perhaps all is not lost.

“Without a hall, we could not proceed with the show,” he added, “but we are hoping to have a video to disseminate by tonight – perhaps even by what had been our original ‘curtain time’ of 8pm, Obviously, if there is no live show, there is nothing to be streamed, either … Under these circumstances, your patience and understanding are much appreciated.”

The Razzie Awards ceremony, the Golden Raspberry Foundation’s annual skewering of the worst in cinema, was scheduled for tonight at the Barnsdall Theatre in Los Angeles. But the event is either “cancelled/postponed,” according to a statement from the producers.

The reason? “Because the Mayor of Los Angeles shut down all city-owned venues where more than 50 people could gather, including our site, The Barnsdall Theatre,” said the statement from John Wilson, co-founder of the awards. “Without a hall, we could not proceed with the show. But we are hoping to have something to disseminate by tonight – Perhaps even by what had been our original “curtain time” of 8 p.m. tonight. Obviously, if there is no live show, there is nothing to be streamed, either.”

The feline musical, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage production, was not greeted nearly as well on the big screen as it was on Broadway, where it won seven Tonys including Best Musical for its original run. Despite its strong pedigree (including direction by “The King’s Speech” Oscar winner Tom Hooper), the film’s unsettling character design was greeted with bafflement at the first sign of the trailer, and then the film was released in December to negative reviews and poor box office.

There may be no film from 2019 that was more divisive than the revisionist comic book movie “Joker,” and that has also proved true on the awards circuit. It won two Oscars out of its 11 nominations honoring the best in cinema, and now it’s nominated for a Razzie Award recognizing the worst in cinema. “Cats” looks like it’ll dominate the Razzie Awards this weekend, but there’s one category where it will probably be mercifully passed over: Worst Actress. The movie musical’s leading lady, newcomer Francesca Hayward, will be spared the ignominy of a win at these kudos. According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, Hilary Duff will win for playing the title role in “The Haunting of Sharon Tate” instead.

Will Tyler Perry win his third Worst Actress Razzie Award for playing his signature role as Madea in “A Madea Family Funeral”? It was purported to be the final Madea movie, so perhaps the Razzies will want to send him out with a bang — or with a bomb, as it were. But might it also be time to retire the Razzies trend of nominating male actors for female roles?

Perry is certainly not the only male performer who has been nominated across gender categories for playing a role in drag. Adam Sandler won Worst Actor and Worst Actress for playing twin siblings in “Jack and Jill” (2011), and the Razzies have also nominated Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Martin Lawrence in this category for female characters.

The Razzie nominations are out and Cats, A Madea Family Funeral, and Rambo: Last Blood cleaned up.

The Golden Raspberry Foundation announced its picks for 2019’s worst achievements in film, a day before the Academy Awards honor the industry’s best.

Cats, which the Razzie folks described as a “widely derided feline flop,” picked up eight nods. A Madea Family Funeral and Rambo: Last Blood also received eight nominations. All three films landed in the worst picture category.

Tyler Perry, who wrote, produced, directed and played four roles in A Madea Family Funeral, received multiple nods — worst screenplay, worst actress, worst screen combo, and two worst supporting actor nominations.

The Razzie Award winners are usually announced the day before the Oscars. But according to the Golden Raspberry Foundation, the schedule was changed this year due to the Oscar ceremony being moved up. The Razzie Awards date will be announced later.

Although shunned by the Oscars, Cats racked up eight nominations to lead the 2020 Golden Raspberry Awards, a.k.a. the Razzies, the annual celebration of Hollywood’s worst.

The big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical, a box office and critical disaster, earned nods for Worst Picture, Worst Actress (Francesca Hayward), Worst Supporting Actress (both Judi Dench and Rebel WIlson), Worst Supporting Actor (James Corden), Worst Screen Combo (for “Any Two Half-Feline/Half-Human Hairball” plus Jason Derulo and “his CGI-neutered bulge”), Worst Director (Tom Hooper) and Worst Screenplay. Taylor Swift and Idris Elba escaped unscathed.

You knew this was coming. The 40th annual Golden Raspberry Awards dishonored the cinematic feline felony known as”Cats” with eight nominations, including one for no less than Dame Judi Dench herself. In fact, the organization even felt the need to describe her Old Deuteronomy as looking suspiciously similar to the Cowardly Lion from “The Wizard of Oz.” Somewhere, Bert Lahr is crying.

But incredibly, there were two other 2019 releases that proved egregious enough to also be pelted with eight nominations: Sylvester Stallone‘s “Rambo: Last Blood” and Tyler Perry‘s 12th and purportedly last appearance in a wig and dress, “A Medea Family Funeral.”

The Razzies are now in their 40th year, and the group typically announces its nominees a day ahead of the Oscar nominations. But with the Oscars moving to its earliest date ever, it also pushed back the Razzies, which are only just announcing the nominees list. The awards ceremony for the winners will be announced at a later date.

As the grisly, counterfactual but oddly rosy ending of “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” continues to be a point of debate among critics and audiences, along comes “The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson” to remind even the most insistent detractors of Tarantino’s what-if rewrite of the Manson murders how much worse things could be. Like some unholy collaboration between the Lifetime network and the National Enquirer, Daniel Farrands’ unabashedly tacky true-crime thriller does nothing if not deliver on the bald promise of its title. A grimy portrayal of the last month of Nicole Brown Simpson’s life, gruelingly counting down the days toward her violent murder as she’s tormented by a host of bad men and bad juju, it’s a cheap, unloving death march of a movie — scarcely made more intriguing by the half-cooked theory it posits as to who (or how many) did the deed.

Quiver Distribution has revealed the official Us trailer for an indie thriller titled The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, which is indeed about the exact stated listed in the title. This is director Daniel Farrands' follow-up to his other murder films: The Amityville Murders and The Haunting of Sharon Tate. Get excited “Lizzie McGuire” fans because a reboot series of the much loved Disney Channel teen show has been picked up at Disney Plus.

Lizzie McGuire herself Hilary Duff, who is set to reprise the role, announced the series at Disney Plus’s D23 Expo event. Terri Minsky, who created the original, is also aboard the revival, which he was on hand to promote Friday.

The original “Lizzie McGuire” series ran for two seasons on the Disney Channel from 2001 to 2004. The show helped establish Duff as a household name in the 2000s. It centered around the titular 13-year old who struggled to navigate middle school.

“Lizzie has also grown up, she’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget,” Duff said from the stage Friday in Anaheim. She added, “She has her dream job, the perfect life right now working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator.

Attention all horror fans! If you’re in the mood to celebrate a summer full of screams, Amazon Prime has you covered. The streaming service is adding a ton of genre movies to its selection this month, including supernatural superhero flicks, time traveling psychological thrillers and renowned occult classics.

Hellboy (July 23)

Don’t say we didn’t warn you. This year’s much-maligned Hellboy reboot is headed directly to Amazon Prime, less than three months after it unceremoniously left theaters. Maybe streaming from your living room, surrounded by a bunch of friends with a couple of beers in hand is the best possible way to view this. Besides, it’ll be a nice primer on the character before Netflix reboots the series a third time in the near future.

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that five original shows will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in July including the fourth season of the docuseries “All or Nothing,” which chronicles the 2018 season for the Carolina Panthers led by star quarterback Cam Newton and the first season of “The Boy,” a superhero drama based on the comic book of the same name.

There will also be one new movie this month: Mike Leigh‘s acclaimed historical drama “Peterloo,” about the massacre of protesters by the British cavalry in 1819. Likewise, there will be plenty of films making their first appearances on Amazon Prime Video in July including five from the “Star Trek” franchise and several entries in the “Dumb and Dumber” series.

Below is the full schedule of everything that is coming to Amazon Prime Video in July 2019. Unlike Netflix, Amazon does not disclose the shows and movies leaving the service in any given month.

The sun may be shining, but Amazon Prime subscribers probably won’t be coming outside, considering the wealth of titles coming to the streamer next month.

Viewers looking for a touch of nostalgia will be able to binge Peter Farrelly’s “Dumb and Dumber” starring a 14 year-old Jim Carrey or its 2014 sequel “Dumb and Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd,” beginning July 31. All five of the “Star Trek” movies are also dropping the last day of the month in addition to older classics such as “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Rainmaker.”

A variety of silver-screen favorites and Amazon Originals are also streaming well before the end of the month. Learn some history by watching “Peterloo,” which portrays the 1819 Peterloo Massacre in England after British forces charge through a peaceful pro-democracy rally, or catch the premiere of “The Boys,” which follows five vigilantes on a heroic quest to combat super-heroes using their powers for evil.

Amazon Prime Video has announced its new content offerings for July 2019, a list that includes five Amazon Original series and one Amazon Original movie. The service will also start streaming Epix’s new series “Pennyworth,” which takes a look at the early life of Batman’s famous butler Alfred, on July 28.

In terms of original series, “Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny” returns for Season 1B on July 5. Season 2 of “Comicstaan” airs July 12, while Season 4 of “All or Nothing” premieres July 19. Season 3 of “Dino Dana” and the series premiere of “The Boys” — a superhero comic book adaptation — are coming July 26.

The Amazon original movie “Peterloo” — a historical drama that chronicles one of that bloodiest chapter’s in Britain’s history — debuts July 3.

A potential bonding opportunity between estranged father (Stephen McHattie) and son (Elijah Wood) takes a demented turn when some surprise visitors show up in Ant Timpson's feature-length directorial debut, Come to Daddy. Following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and ahead of its screening at the Overlook Film Festival, Come to Daddy has been acquired by Saban Films for Us distribution.

A theatrical release for Come to Daddy is being planned, but an exact release date has yet to be announced. We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details as they are revealed.

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, arriving in July, isn’t the first Manson Family murders / Sharon Tate-related movie hitting theaters during the 50th anniversary year of those abominable crimes.

The first out was The Haunting of Sharon Tate starring Hillary Duff, which was largely dismissed as exploitative. The second, newly arrived in theaters, is Charlie Says (Sharon Tate, played by Grace van Dien, is a very minor character in the film). Tarantino’s film will feature Margot Robbie as the doomed actress. And still a fourth picture is coming, a biographical drama called Tate starring Kate Bosworth, though its focus will not be on the actress’s murder. This true crime story is quite obviously all the rage in Hollywood at the moment.
