It wouldn’t be a Ryan Murphy series without a killer lineup of guest stars, and ABC’s upcoming “Doctor Odyssey” has a great one. Country music legend Shania Twain will guest star on the drama, which premieres Sept. 26.
Twain even briefly appears in the first teaser for the drama. “Doctor, welcome aboard the Odyssey,” Capt. Robert Massey (Don Johnson) says in the two-minute long clip. “This ship is heaven. Our mission is to preserve the dream, and that’s why you’re here.”
“I’m in,” Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson) says in response.
As they have this exchange, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys plays in the background as a heart rate monitor can be heard increasing in speed. When the monitor is at its most rapid, the drama cranks up.

When I first moved to New York in 2017, I made a work friend who quickly became a close friend. One of the many things we bonded over was a shared love of John Travolta's lesser known movies. More specifically, I was impressed at how much joy my new friend was able to derive from the actor's career. I'd be lying if I said that joy stemmed from a genuine appreciation of the man's work, but I think he harbored a strange kind of respect for Travolta, as if any man who could put out "Look Who's Talking Now" or "Gotti" and still maintain some sort of career was deserving of admiration. As such, we planned a massive Travolta marathon which we sadly never got around to.
But if we ever did get around to taking a journey through the dregs of Travolta's career, Rotten Tomatoes might be a decent guide.

Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has acquired North American VOD rights to the drama-thriller “The Ghost Trap” and the social drama “Global Harmony,” the company announced during the Cannes Film Market. Allen Media also recently unveiled plans for a third installment in its successful “47 Meters Down” shark franchise.
“The Ghost Trap” (pictured) is the story of a young lobsterman who is forced to choose between right and wrong when his girlfriend suffers a traumatic head injury when she is swept off his boat by a rogue wave and rival lobstering family sabotages his gear, sparking a deadly trap war.
The film stars Zak Steiner (“Euphoria”), Greer Grammer (“Deadly Illusions”), Sarah Catherine Hook and Steven Ogg (“Westworld”). James Khanlarian makes his feature directorial debut, directing from K. Stephens’ script, which is based on the book she authored by the same name,...

Keke Palmer had a hell of a 2022, starring in Jordan Peele's excellent scary, funny blockbuster "Nope," earning critical praise for her portrayal of Emerald Haywood. Then, she hosted the best episode of "Saturday Night Live" season 48, proving she still had those comedic chops she'd developed during her younger years at Nickelodeon.
Even if the 2023 Oscars did completely ignore "Nope," there's no doubt Palmer came out of the whole thing with a buzz surrounding her. Which should help build anticipation for her newly announced comedy project, "The Backup."
As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Palmer will enlist the help of Kevin Hart's production skills and Hartbeat production company for the movie, which is being overseen by Universal and was announced in mid-March 2023. The actress will also produce the film, which is in the early stages of pre-production and promises to showcase Palmer's comedic sensibilities. Those were on full...

In the 1991 comedy “L.A. Story,” local weatherman Steve Martin felt safe in prerecording some TV forecasts so he could take time off in the summer. Similarly, this week’s VOD report could have been filed last week with little fear of inaccuracy. Netflix’s 200 million Russo Bros. original “The Gray Man” immediately hit #1 on the streamer’s in-house chart after its online debut July 22, a week after the film’s nominal theatrical release.
Even at #1, a Netflix chart can tell only a small part of the story. A major new English-language new original is the default #1 more often than not. Last week’s #1 film was its contemporary update of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion”; this week it’s #4. Usually Netflix can live with that, but “The Gray Man” is its most expensive feature to date. Even a second week at #1 would be unusual; “Senior Year” with Rebel Wilson is its...

Among previously revealed cast are Tony Revolori, Amer Chadha-Patel , Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman and Warwick Davis. And as we revealed last week, the casting of Talisa Garcia marks the first time Lucasfilm has cast a trans actor in one of its productions.
Much like she did to memorable effect in Game Of Thrones we hear Sellers will play a resourceful character with sharp, acerbic wit.

The ultraviolently acerbic shared universe of Quentin Tarantino’s films has long been a source of theories and examinations, and one long-acknowledged connection has been between the apparent siblings of Michael Madsen’s Vic Vega (a.k.a. Mr. Blonde) from 1992’s Reservoir Dogs and John Travolta’s Vincent Vega from 1994’s Pulp Fiction. Indeed, Tarantino had plans to connect them onscreen, but it never happened. Now, Madsen reveals new details about the prequel that never was.
An intriguing—some might say bittersweet—anecdote about the unmade project came from Michael Madsen himself in an interview with THR, conducted on the occasion of a revival of sorts of his Mr. Blonde character for a parody PSA he released to encourage home quarantining during the Covid-19 pandemic. It seems that Tarantino had substantial ideas for the prequel film focused on Vega Brothers Vic and Vincent, starting with a premise based on...

The 2019 film Cats was honored — or rather dishonored — at the 2020 Golden Raspberry Awards.
More commonly known as the Razzies, the awards ceremony honor the worst achievements in film for the previous year.
The CGI-filled musical adaptation of the hit Broadway sensation took home six awards, the most of any film, including Worst Picture and Worst Director for Tom Hooper. Other awards included Worst Supporting Actor (James Corden), Worst Supporting Actress (Rebel Wilson), Worst Screen Combo (Any Two Half-Feline/Half Human Hairballs) and Worst Screenplay.
Hooper’s win places him in the exclusive group of people who have won both an Oscar and a Razzie.

With all that is going on in the world the winners of the Razzies aka Golden Raspberry Awards , would fall under the category of most trivial , but sometimes in the face of adversity it might be good to remind ourselves there is still a light side to take our minds off far more serious things.
As a result of the Coronavirus crisis the Razzies were, like just about every other event, forced to cancel their big weekend plans for a live show (originally it was to have been streamed direct from the ceremony in Los Angeles), so instead winners were just announced today via press release.

“Cats” won the “honor” of the Worst Picture prize of 2019 from the Razzies, and John Travolta and Hilary Duff were deemed to have given the worst performances of the year.
The Universal musical film “Cats” also picked up Razzies for Rebel Wilson for Worst Supporting Actress, James Corden for Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Director Tom Hooper and Worst Screenplay for Hooper and Lee Hall. The film also won for Worst Screen Combo for what the awards cattily described as “any two half-feline/half-human hairballs” from the film.
Travolta won for both his work in “The Fanatic” and “Trading Paint,” and Duff won for her film “The Haunting of Sharon Tate,” in which she played the iconic ’60s starlet in a horror film.

The feline musical, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage production, was not greeted nearly as well on the big screen as it was on Broadway, where it won seven Tonys including Best Musical for its original run. Despite its strong pedigree (including direction by “The King’s Speech” Oscar winner Tom Hooper), the film’s unsettling character design was greeted with bafflement at the first sign of the trailer, and then the film was released in December to negative reviews and poor box office.

“Cats” looks like it’ll dominate the Razzie Awards this weekend, but there’s one category where it will probably be mercifully passed over: Worst Actress. The movie musical’s leading lady, newcomer Francesca Hayward, will be spared the ignominy of a win at these kudos. Shania Twain doesn’t take her voice for granted. The country superstar almost lost her ability to sing after being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2003.
She first thought something was wrong when she couldn’t project her voice. “I couldn’t call out for the dog,” she says on Thursday’s episode of “The Big Ticket,” Variety and iHeart’s weekly podcast. “I wasn’t heard very well on the phone. I couldn’t speak in loud environments.”
She initially believed that her issue was fatigue because she had just come off tour and was a new mom, but the problem persisted. “No voice doctor could explain,” she said. “They were like, ‘It’s probably psychological.’ I didn’t buy it, and I was sure it was a physiological thing.”

John Travolta has been a repeat offender at the Razzies, earning 14 nominations over the course of his career, including Worst Actor of the Decade for both the 1980s and 2000s. But mercifully the only times he won were his nominations for 2000’s “Battlefield Earth.” However, we think he’ll be back in the winner’s circle — if you can call it that — this year for both “The Fanatic” and “Trading Paint.” He’s the odds-on favorite for Worst Actor based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users.

Show business sure is fickle. Four years ago Sylvester Stallone won the Redeemer Award from the Razzies for his Oscar-nominated performance in “Creed,” but now he’s back on their hit list, nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay for “Rambo: Last Blood.” He could extend an unfortunate record if he wins again.
To date, Stallone has won Worst Actor four times, more than anyone else: “Rhinestone” (1984); “Rambo: First Blood Part II” and “Rocky IV” (1985); “Rambo III” (1988); and “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” (1992). And that doesn’t even count his “victories” for Worst Actor of the 1980s and Worst Actor of the 20th Century. He also has the most Worst Actor nominations of all time (15) — basically he’s the Meryl Streep of the Razzies.

You knew this was coming. The 40th annual Golden Raspberry Awards dishonored the cinematic feline felony known as”Cats” with eight nominations, including one for no less than Dame Judi Dench herself. In fact, the organization even felt the need to describe her Old Deuteronomy as looking suspiciously similar to the Cowardly Lion from “The Wizard of Oz.” Somewhere, Bert Lahr is crying.
But incredibly, there were two other 2019 releases that proved egregious enough to also be pelted with eight nominations: Sylvester Stallone‘s “Rambo: Last Blood” and Tyler Perry‘s 12th and purportedly last appearance in a wig and dress, “A Medea Family Funeral.”
As per usual, the competitors for disgraced excellence were announced on the eve of the Academy Awards, which airs live on ABC on Sunday. The cheeky Razzies also had the nerve to slap around two other Oscars winners besides Dame Judi: Anne Hathaway, up for both “The Hustle” and “Serenity,...

Tom Hooper’s movie musical “Cats,” Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo: Last Blood,” and Tyler Perry’s “A Madea Family Funeral” topped this year’s nominations list for the worst movies and performances of 2019, scoring eight nominations a piece.
Other “honorees” on this year’s list include the remake of “Hellboy” starring David Harbour, John Travolta in the thriller “The Fanatic” and the James Franco-directed period drama “Zeroville.”
The Razzies are now in their 40th year, and the group typically announces its nominees a day ahead of the Oscar nominations. But with the Oscars moving to its earliest date ever, it also pushed back the Razzies, which are only just announcing the nominees list. The awards ceremony for the winners will be announced at a later date.

John Travolta is sharing a candlelight dinner with Shania Twain.
In a People exclusive clip from the upcoming film Trading Paint, the 65-year-old actor stars as Sam Munroe, a veteran race car driver, who romances Twain’s Becca as they discuss his passion for racing.
“Tell me about your hobby,” Becca asks Sam. Confused, he asks her, “Hobby?”
“Yeah, racing,” she says.
Shaking his head and laughing, Sam explains his drive for racing is deeply rooted and goes beyond that of a hobby.
“Hell no. Racing ain’t no hobby. It’s more like a family tradition.”

Shania Twain was a surprise guest — both to the audience and likely to herself — during the Backstreet Boys’ Las Vegas performance on Saturday night.
The enduring early-Aughts boy band enlisted the country music star to participate as they sang their 2000 hit “Shape of My Heart.” Seated near the front of the stage for the Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Twain dressed all in black and wearing aviators, gamely took the hand of Aj McLean, who escorted her into the spotlight. John Travolta‘s film choices have become increasingly, let’s say…interesting. After the 2018 two-fer that was Gotti and Speed Kills, the actor is ringing in 2019 with Trading Paint, a sports drama in which he stars as a washed-up race car driver for whom it’s “been a long time” since he was “somebody.” Cheers for unintentionally meta-dialogue! Trading Paint Trailer […]

"You get involved with the likes of him and I guarantee you'll get hurt. Championship means more than your father!"
It seems like John Travolta has hit a point in his career where he just doesn’t care about the kinds of films he makes anymore. It’s been a long time since he’s made a decent movie, but today we have the first trailer for his next film project called Trading Paint. Travolta actually seems like he’s enjoying his role in this and it looks like it might be fun.
The film is a race car thriller in which Travolta plays a veteran race car driver who has a rivalry with his own son, who breaks free from his dad to embark on a journey of his own to win races and become a champion.

"You get involved with the likes of him and I guarantee you'll get hurt. Championship means more than your father!" Saban Films has released the first official trailer for an indie race car thriller titled Trading Paint, from director Karzan Kader. The film is about a small town rivalry between a veteran race car driver and his son, as the son decides to go out on his own in hopes of winning more races. John Travolta stars, with his son played by Toby Sebastian, along with Michael Madsen, Kevin Dunn, Shania Twain, Buck Taylor, and Luis Da Silva. This is a rather intense trailer for a movie about race car drivers, but it is an intense sport so I guess it makes sense. Travolta seems to be enjoying this role. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Karzan Kader's Trading Paint, direct from YouTube: Veteran race car driver Sam...

Looking good, John Travolta! The Grease actor stepped out with his gray hair alongside his wife, Kelly Preston, and his two kids, daughter Ella, 18, and son Benjamin, 7, at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 15 — and honestly, we had to look at the picture a few times to make sure it was really him! The Saturday Night Fever star sported the handsome look for his role as the late mobster John Gotti in the upcoming film Gotti, which is set to hit theaters on Friday, June 15. At the highly-publicized event, the silver fox looked dapper in a black tuxedo with a white shirt and black bow tie. And even though we'll miss the slicked-back Danny Zuko strands, we're totally into this situation right now. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) This isn't the first time we've seen John with frosted locks, though! In September, he posed alongside singer Shania Twain behind the...
