The Lonely Island‘s Jorma Taccone is in good company for his next directorial project as Ben Schwartz and Sam Rockwell board the upcoming Searchlight comedy DNA. News about Taccone joining DNA as the film’s director and producer comes after he recently launched production in Finland for The Trip, an upcoming thriller starring Jason Segel and Samara Weaving.

Plot details for DNA remain a mystery, though we know Schwartz sold the concept to Searchlight in 2020. Schwartz wrote the script, while Ali Bell, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Taccone produced through their Party Over Here studio. Rockwell gets in on the action as an executive producer alongside Schwartz.

Taconne’s other directorial efforts include shorts and music videos for The Lonely Island, Parks and Recreation, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Miracle Workers, The Last O.G., and Paramount’s Knuckles series. His upcoming thriller, The Trip, revolves around a troubled couple who visit an isolated cabin.

Fans picked Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds as well as Adam Sandler as some of the most overrated stars in Hollywood. In a vox pop by a popular page, common folk in the UK were asked about who they think are the most overrated stars in Hollywood, and Reynolds, Sandler, and Timothée Chalamet seemed to dominate the list.

Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World is what happens when you toss The Hunger Games, Mortal Kombat, Happy!, and Crank into a blender. While that sounds rad, the slurry of upbeat action and nonsense plot tangles is much more baffling in execution. Mohr’s vision borrows heavily from button-mashy videogames and dystopian graphic novels, blending Cyberpunk futurism with real-world dictatorship commentaries. Actors and actresses have their own most liked and disliked moments in their projects they become a part of, which can oftentimes, be the complete opposite of what the fans think about the same. For Daniel Radcliffe, the moment was the iconic ‘7 Harrys’ scene.

This particular scene, which was introduced in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows – Part One, became a fan favorite since it featured Radcliffe doing different takes in different outfits of other characters.

But according to the actor himself, he revealed that it was probably one of his lesser loved scenes to shoot for his role as Harry Potter in the franchise because it was exhausting. On the other hand, he was also excited while shooting this segment because he got to realize how he could easily play the role of Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger while he wore ladies’ clothing.

In Eenie Meanie, Samara Weaving plays Edie, “a former teenage getaway driver who is dragged back into her unsavory past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend.” (via Deadline)

The Crow reboot will release in theaters on June 7, 2024, and Vanity Fair has shared three first-look images this morning that reveal Bill Skarsgård’s tattooed take on Eric Draven.

Director Rupert Sanders explains to Vanity Fair, “I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.

It’s not easy to pull off a character that has the looks, charm, is a good actor, and a little bit of a freak.

And maybe that was the reason the studio back then wasn’t too keen on casting Bale in the lead role. But to their pleasant surprise, the actor gave a performance worthy of being written in the pages of cinematic history.

Any project Samara Weaving is involved with has our attention here at JoBlo and Arrow in the Head, so we’ve been anxiously waiting to hear updates on the action horror film Azrael, in which Weaving plays the title character. A great update has reached us today, as Republic Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to Azrael, for release through Paramount Global Distribution, in a high seven figure deal. They haven’t revealed their release plans yet, but it shouldn’t be long before they do.

“Smash,” the TV series about the making of a fictional Broadway musical, takes an early step toward becoming a real-life Broadway musical on Sept. 22, with a pair of industry readings led by Tony nominees Robyn Hurder and Kerry Butler.

Hurder plays Ivy, an actress cast in the lead role of a new musical about Marilyn Monroe, and Butler appears as Karen, Ivy’s understudy. Their characters share the names of two pivotal roles in the TV show, which also focused on the development of a Marilyn Monroe musical called “Bombshell.”

Netflix has ordered its first ever pilot. The streaming giant, which has typically opted to order projects straight to series, has greenlit a pilot for the single-camera comedy “Little Sky,” Variety has confirmed.

Samara Weaving is attached to star in the pilot, which hails from creator Rightor Doyle.

According to an invidual with knowledge of the situation, Netflix does not plan to shift to the traditional broadcast model of ordering multiple pilots and comparing them for potential series orders. The “Little Sky” pilot is the only one planned at present.

Nevertheless, the fact that Netflix is willing to order a pilot is significant. The streamer has heavily influenced broadcast networks and other outlets in recent years into using a script-to-series model and mini rooms, the latter of which are a sticking point in the current WGA negotiations. After kicking ass and taking names in movies like Ready or Not, Guns Akimbo, and Mayhem, Samara Weaving is traveling through time to lay the smackdown on the era of high hair, neon windbreakers, and thrash metal! According to Deadline, Weaving will star in Bella, a 1980s-set action thriller from Larysa Kondracki.

Kondracki directs the feature, with Craig Flores producing through Bread & Circuses Entertainment alongside John Wick’s Chad Stahelski through his 87Eleven banner. Jason Spitz and Alex Young executive produce, with Jesse Wigutow writing based on Jason Markarian’s script.

Set during a 1980s crimewave in New York City, Deadline says Bella is a “hyper-stylized action thriller about a cop’s daughter who, after her father clings to life following an assassination attempt, goes on a rampage to unearth her father’s assassin and weed out deep-rooted corruption in the New York City Police Department.”

In the spring of 2020, two films starring Daniel Radcliffe came out, almost back-to-back.

In Escape From Pretoria, he played Tim Jenkin, the real-life anti-apartheid activist and former political prisoner who in 1978 was part of a daring and successful breakout — using secretly made wooden keys — from a South African jail.

In Guns Akimbo, he played Miles, a computer programmer in a bonkers near-future who wakes up one morning to find that a criminal kingpin’s gang of henchmen — including a masked guy called Fuckface — had bloodily bolted guns onto each of his hands.

For those who had been keeping an eye on Radcliffe’s post-Harry Potter career, this quick-fire double of taut historical prison thriller and insane action-comedy sci-fi felt like the perfect summary as he neared almost a decade since leaving one of the world’s most successful movie franchises.

Damien Chazelle’s Babylon will beat Santa to the Christmas punch by going wide on December 23. Initially, Babylon would have a limited release on Christmas Day in New York and Los Angeles before expanding wide in January. After having huge success within a young adult franchise, many young actors try to distinguish themselves and make a clean break from their family-friendly roots. Just look at the careers of former "Twilight," "Hunger Games," and "Harry Potter" stars, like Josh Hutcherson, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Daniel Radcliffe.
