In his opening monologue for the 2025 Oscars, host Conan O’Brien made a pronouncement about how any acceptance speech that went on too long would be subject to John Lithgow’s “disappointed” face.
Some 3.5 hours later — well after Conan did a musical number about his promise not to waste time, after a half-dozen winners made speeches that the orchestra cut off almost before they began — Adrien Brody took the stage for his second best actor win, announcing that the theme of his speech would be everything he learned in the 20 years since his first win for The Pianist. He proceeded to babble without interruption or apparent purpose for several minutes, finally started to get played off, instructed the orchestra that he wasn’t leaving, and rambled for several more minutes — and The Director Of The Telecast Never Once Cut To John Lithgow Being Disappointed. Maybe the director forgot. Maybe John Lithgow forgot.

The Oscars In Memoriam segment continues to stir upset among viewers as the 2025 ceremony snubbed stars like Michelle Trachtenberg, Shannen Doherty, Tony Todd, Olivia Hussey, and more in its most recent televised presentation. But as viewers began to convey their annoyance over the snub, it must be noted that the Oscars revealed a link that would take viewers to a fuller list of tributes, which includes Trachtenberg, Doherty, and Todd. You can see the full roundup here. Among the talented performers who did make it onto the In Memoriam screen were the likes of Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones, Louis Gossett Jr., Donald Sutherland, and so many more. The presentation was oddly set to the tune of Mozart’s “Requiem,” a.k.a. “Lacrimosa.” The most notable tribute came at the top of the presentation as Morgan Freeman introduced the segment with a special remark for former costar and recently deceased Gene Hackman.

Why couldn’t Jared Leto cry in 17 years? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
The actor-musician, Jared Leto, promoting 30 Seconds to Mars’ new album It’s the End of the World But It’s a Beautiful Day, dropped the bombshell while discussing emotional music. “I haven’t cried in about 17 years,” he said. “The last time was because I stubbed my toe.” The reason? “Maybe I shed them all in Requiem for a Dream.”
The 2000 addiction drama, directed by Darren Aronofsky, left scars. Leto played Harry Goldfarb, a heroin addict whose spiral into despair mirrored the film’s harrowing tone. “I cried so much during the making of that movie,” he admitted. But the real tearjerker came off-camera. During a scene requiring raw emotion, Leto received a life-shattering call: A close friend had been shot in the head. “The emotion that came at that moment…I recognized what a brutal loss this was,...

Launched in 2003, NCIS is one of the few shows that has consistently drawn in crowds from every section of the world, giving birth to five spin-off shows and countless seasons. The CBS procedural series has been forever entrenched in our pop culture dictionary due to its enduring presence in television history.

If you are a fan of dark fantasy series, then chances are high that you have come across Berserk, which has left an indelible mark on the genre for being so mature and credible. While the manga has gained an unparalleled status that no other title can come close to, the same can’t be said for the anime, as it has taken a serious hit in popularity as it has gone on a hiatus long enough for anyone to remember.

Spoilers for Attack on Titan's endingNot every reader was completely satisfied with Attack on Titan's thrilling and heartbreaking conclusion to the manga, so some fans have taken matters into their own hands and created an alternative finale to the series. Attack on Titan: Requiem is the title of a fan comic that completely changes aspects of the series' conclusion, imagining how a different ending to the story could have played out.
Attack on Titan: Requiem is quite a controversial project, since some fans believe the only correct conclusion is the one mangaka, Hajime Isayama, originally wrote. Despite the disagreements surrounding the project, @Studio_Eclypse has just posted the first trailer for the fan series on X.

The world of Attack on Titan is bracing for a big year, and there’s plenty for us to look forward to. One major highlight is Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, the movie that concludes the anime series in cinematic format. But that’s not all—there’s something fresh brewing outside the official storyline.
Attack on Titan: Requiem is a fan-made anime project offering an alternate ending to the series. A trailer for this ambitious take has already dropped, and it’s clear that things will play out differently compared to the finale created by Studio Mappa. The fan studio, Studio Eclypse, plans to release Requiem on January 15th, complete with an English dub and new voice actors.
What changes can we expect in this version? That’s still under wraps, but the project aims to shake up the epic showdown between Eren and the Scouts. Here is the trailer:

The culture of the creatures at the center of the Predator franchise has been well established across various forms of media, and one of the most noteworthy practices of their honor-based hunting culture is their skinning of certain victims. The Predator movie franchise has seen the alien hunters kill across different time periods and on different planets, and over time more information has been revealed about what motivates the species known as the Yautja. Their honor-based culture involves finding, killing. and taking trophies from other organisms that they deem to be worthy, dangerous adversaries.
However, on several occasions in the Predator movies, victims are left skinless and hanging after an encounter with a Predator. The first special forces unit to encounter the alien in Guatemala (before Dutch Schaeffer and his unit ran afoul of it in Predator) were discovered skinned and disemboweled, and hanging from their ankles on display. Tony Todd, an actor who starred in the Candyman and Final Destination horror franchises, has died. He was 69.
He died Wednesday at his home in Marina del Rey after a long illness, his wife, Fatima, told The Hollywood Reporter.
“The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony, -Your Final Destination Family,” New Line Cinema, which produced the franchise, wrote on Instagram.
Born on Dec. 4, 1954, in Washington, Todd went on to study for two years at the University of Connecticut before getting a scholarship for the Eugene O’Neill National Theatre Institute. His time there helped lay a foundation for his stints at the then-Hartman Conservatory in Stamford, Connecticut, and the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island.

One of the most popular and enduring horror film series of all time is undoubtedly the Alien franchise, which began in 1979 with Alien and is still going strong in 2024. The franchise's long and storied history has had its ups and downs, as the series has gone from its relatively simple sci-fi horror roots to the huge, complicated Alien timeline we know today, but one major question with all long-running franchises has been how well the films tend to do when it comes to the box office.
The Alien franchise has been surprisingly consistent with its release schedule, releasing movies, whether they be full additions to the franchise or crossovers with other media, every five-to-seven years on average. While the series has never been among the top earners like Star Wars or the MCU in their prime, each film in the Alien franchise has been successful in one way or another,...

Let’s face it – Alien movies are not created equal. In my Alien: Romulus review, I noted that there have really only ever been two flawless films in the franchise, with the rest all having moments of genius (well – most of them) but none measuring up to the first two movies in the saga. All of this makes Alien movie rankings quite controversial, as it’s a divisive topic. So, how does our Alien movies ranked list shape up? Let’s dive right in, shall we?
Alien Vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
I honestly couldn’t believe Fox had the gall to release this as a legit entry into the franchise in 2007. At the time, the studio had a bad reputation for putting out half-baked and cheap genre fare (made even more frustrating by how many were based on top-notch properties). This was the nadir of both the Alien and Predator franchises.

The Hungarian State Opera is proud to present Ádám Tulassay’s new interpretation of Verdi’s Requiem, a staged production featuring remarkable Hungarian soloists Andrea Brassói-Jőrös, Andrea Szántó, István Kovácsházi, and Krisztián Cser. The musical performance will be brought to life by the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of conductor Péter Dobszay.
Hans von Bülow’s oft-quoted critique, referring to Verdi’s Requiem as “an opera in ecclesiastical costume,” aptly captures the widespread perception that, despite its foundation in the Catholic liturgical structure and text, Verdi’s Requiem transcends religious content to convey a universal message of mourning. The work endeavors to express a range of emotions, including Verdi’s own, utilizing techniques familiar from his stage operas. The composer was moved to write the funeral mass following the deaths of two esteemed compatriots: composer Gioachino Rossini and poet Alessandro Manzoni, a prominent figure in Italy’s unification,...

Legacy sci-fi franchise fans — roll up, roll up! We've got Alien news, we've got Predator news, and we've even got — wait for it — some Alien Vs. Predator news. Earlier today, THR published an extensive new interview with 20th Century Studios head honcho Steve Asbell in celebration of the Disney-owned studio's hit-filled summer. And whilst the conversation was filled with exciting upcoming project teases (a Miss Marple movie! Speed 3! The long-awaited Master And Commander prequel!), it was Asbell's updates on the state of play with the division's future Xenomorphian and Yautjan plans.
First up, Asbell revealed that Fede Alvarez is working on ideas for an Alien: Romulus sequel already, with the hope being that stars David Jonsson and Cailee Spaeny would be in the tank for a return. "We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on,...

Future Alien vs Predator Movies With Prey & Romulus Characters Seemingly Teased By 20th Century Boss
More Alien vs. Predator movies could be on the way, combining characters from the new subfranchises spawned by Prey and Alien: Romulus. The original crossover franchise between the Alien movies and the Predator movies kicked off with AvP in 2004 and was followed by a sequel subtitled Requiem in 2007. While AvP 3 has so far failed to come to fruition, both franchises are still going strong with the 2022 prequel Prey being followed by Predator: Badlands and 2024's Romulus becoming the second highest-grossing movie in the franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter recently sat down for an interview with 20th Century president Steve Asbell. During their conversation, he touched on the success of both franchises and the possibility of the Alien vs. Predator subfranchise continuing in the wake of their success. The entire Law & Order franchise is full of cases that feel pulled from real life, and the Law & Order: Svu episodes based on real-life crimes carry more of an impact on audiences. Originally released in 1999 as a spin-off to Law & Order, Svu is now the longest-running show in the franchise exploring cases of the Special Victim's Unit that investigates crimes involving sexual assault. As a result, the Law & Order: Svu cases based on real-life events make for some of the most chilling in both the show and the wider Law & Order franchise.
With over 500 episodes and 25 seasons, Law & Order: Svu has a staying power that few procedurals can match, even other shows created by master of the genre Dick Wolf. A bigger reason for the success of Svu is that many of the cases both shock audiences and pull at the heartstrings as the...

Amazon MGM Studios and producer Scott Stuber have teamed up to acquire the film adaptation rights to an adult mystery thriller novel proposal by bestselling author Lauren Oliver, and Deadline reports that Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson has boarded the project with the intention of producing it alongside Stuber… and, if she likes the script, she’ll also sign on to play the title character of The Girl in the Lake.

There is something inherently fascinating about gigantic robots fighting each other, at least to a significant portion of the world’s population, and that has understandably given rise to such franchises over the years. Netflix’s new animated series, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, brings back one of these franchises, the Gundam series, to our screens, although the figures in this universe are not technically robots but mobile suits used for warfare controlled by humans inside them. The series comprises six episodes, each around 24 minutes long, and tells the story of a Principality of Zeon pilot, Iria Solari, as she and her team are involved in deadly warfare on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Although Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance might be worth watching for long-time fans of the franchise, it offers hardly anything for newcomers and can easily be skipped.
Requiem for Vengeance takes place on the European front on Earth, eleven months after the Revolutionary Wars began.

Dan Trachtenberg's new Predator movie Badlands will continue a very specific trend that has existed since the beginning of the Predator franchise. After the success of the surprise hit Prey, Dan Trachtenberg was given the opportunity to develop another standalone Predator movie, and Badlands was confirmed to be in production in February 2024. Badlands is set to release at some point in 2025, and while there are not many story details available yet, some important elements of the movie have already been made public.

Brenda Song has been working in the entertainment industry almost her entire life. She got her start as a childrens model in catalogs and work in commercials and television soon followed. Song and her mother moved to Los Angeles when she was just six so that Song could pursue her dreams. Her big break, however, might actually be seen as a short film instead of some of the TV projects she was in as a child.
Actress and director Elizabeth Sung was casting her short film Requiem in the mid 90s when she decided to cast Song as the younger version of one of the characters. Sung cast her in another short a few years later and has sung her praises ever since, calling her focused even from a young age (via Mochi Magazine). Warning: Major spoilers for Alien: Romulus below!A major Alien: Romulus easter egg could be setting up a controversial sequel involving Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. The box-office success of Alien: Romulus not only proves there's still an audience for the sci-fi saga, but that the latest sequel was right to start essentially from scratch. Instead of paying off Covenant's cliffhanger ending or bringing back a familiar face, the story focused on a new set of characters while expanding on concepts introduced in other entries. This includes the return of the Engineer's Black Goo, which has the power to alter the DNA of any living being.
Director Fede Alvarez is a noted fanboy of the series, so his film is still laden with easter eggs and nods. A well-hidden Romulus easter egg confirms Ripley's shuttle was docked at the Renaissance station in-between the events of Alien and Aliens. This poses many questions,...

Mirjana Karanovic’s star shines brightly over this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival (Sff).
The Serbian actress-turned-director is presenting the world premiere of her latest feature Mother Mara, a film that examines the world of a middle-aged woman and how she deals with death that is also a film bursting with life.
Karanovich’s international breakthrough came in Emir Kusturica’s Palme d’Or-winning and Oscar-nominated When Father Was Away on Business (1985), and the veteran actress spent decades establishing herself as one of the most acclaimed acting talents in Southern Europe, with starring turns in such acclaimed features as Requiem for Mrs. J and Grbavica, before, aged 60, she decided to move behind the camera.
Her feature debut as a director, A Good Wife (2016), premiered at Sundance with Karanovic starring as an unassuming Serbian wife and mother forced to confront her own mortality, and her husband’s dark secrets. “Karanovic’s...

Despite being critically panned, the financial success of the first two Alien Vs Predator movies left room for a potential third installment. The Strause Brothers had plans for Alien Vs Predator 3 to take place in space, tying the canon of Alien and Predator together. Conflicting visions for the franchise between the Strause Brothers and Ridley Scott's prequels paused plans for Alien Vs Predator 3, but a chance still exists.
Although the first two Alien Vs Predator movies were critically reviled, Alien Vs Predator 3 could still have happened thanks to their financial success. 2004s Alien Vs Predator was one of the greatest disappointments in sci-fi horror cinema. Director Paul W.S. Andersons showdown between the two Goliaths of the genre was inexplicably rated PG-13, resulting in a bloodless, sanitized face-off that failed to satisfy fans of either franchise. 2007s Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem seemed set to fix this issue, massively ramping...

[Editor’s Note: This list was originally published in May 2017. It has since been updated to coincide with the release of “Alien: Romulus.”]
Very few film franchises in history have the pedigree that “Alien” can lay claim to. The 20th Century Fox science fiction saga has evolved over the decades from claustrophobic horror to bloody action and back again, and it’s managed that transition by producing two undeniable classics. First is Ridley Scott’s 1979 original, “Alien,” which made Sigourney Weaver an iconic final girl and became the flawless masterpiece all sci-fi horror attempts will inevitably be compared to. Then came James Cameron’s 1986 “Aliens,” which made Weaver an iconic action hero and became one of the most beloved and imitated action movies ever made.
With such a heavyweight one-two opening punch, the “Alien” franchise really had nowhere to go but down. But that hasn’t stopped the powers that be from plugging along, trying to create a follow-up that would recapture the magic that Cameron and Scott created. There was...

One of the greatest franchises of all time, Alien has found its way to immortality through its unique ability to evolve. Few franchises can bounce around genres quite like Alien. Additionally, each director brings their own flavor to the conversation. Today, FandomWire is ranking the films in the franchise, including Alien: Romulus, which releases this week.

The Star Trek: Voyager episode "Concerning Flight" referenced Tos's "Requiem For Methuselah," proving Kirk broke a promise. Janeway referencing Kirk supposedly meeting da Vinci reveals the interconnectedness of the Star Trek franchise. Kirk breaking his promise to not reveal da Vinci's identity underscored his more wildcard personality traits.
Star Trek: Voyager's Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) revealed that Captain Kirk (William Shatner) broke a promise he made during a season 3 episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. Although Voyager and The Original Series didn't tend to have much in common, Tos was a source of inspiration for every Star Trek movie and TV show that came after it, being the father of the franchise and the originator of the Star Trek timeline. As such, Voyager had the occasional obscure reference to Tos throughout its run, including in the season 4 episode, "Concerning Flight."

It has been 45 years since filmmaker Ridley Scott first got attention with his horror-sci-fi film “Alien” and seven years since his last movie in that franchise, 2017’s “Alien: Covenant.” Sir Ridley is still involved as a producer with “Alien: Romulus,” the first movie produced under 20th Century since being bought by Disney. It’s been a long time since Sigourney Weaver‘s Ripley was leading these things, but for this one, they’ve brought on Cailee Spaeny of “Civil War” and “Priscilla,” as well as Isabela Merced from “Transformers: The Last Knight” and “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

Dan Trachtenberg poses the age-old question of who would win in a fight: xenomorph or Predator at Sdcc's Alien: Romulus panel. The Alien vs. Predator films were moderate box office successes but didn't lead to a desire for more showdown movies. Alien: Romulus, the seventh film in the Alien franchise, aims to revitalize the series after recent setbacks.
Prey director Dan Trachtenberg beams in a question for Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez at San Diego Comic-Con, asking who would win in a fight between a xenomorph and a Predator. Alien vs. Predator and its sequel pitted two of moviedoms most famous extra-terrestrial entities against one another, in a big screen fight to the finish. Since those two moderately successful team-up movies, the Predator and Alien franchises have gone their separate ways, but the question of which non-terrestrial creature is tougher remains a topic of debate.

Alien: Romulus aims to redeem the ailing Alien franchise and may do so by bringing back a long-forgotten character. The movie is a standalone entry and takes place between Alien and Aliens, offering a new story and cast while still referencing other aspects of the franchise. It begins as a spatter of heavy rainfall — nothing out of the ordinary for acclimatized Brits, for whom an actual storm can even be cozily welcome after days of noncommittal drear and drizzle. But then it doesn’t stop, deep-set wet turns to invasive flooding, and what seemed a mere bout of inclement weather has swept you — and countless others like you — out of house and home. Megan Hunter’s speculative novel “The End We Start From” was a neat metaphor for the larger threat in seemingly minor signifiers of climate crisis; briskly adapted by screenwriter Alice Birch, Mahalia Belo’s fine film version matches its pragmatic, coolly urgent vision of a world coming apart slowly, gradually, and then all at once.
