Some 3.5 hours later — well after Conan did a musical number about his promise not to waste time, after a half-dozen winners made speeches that the orchestra cut off almost before they began — Adrien Brody took the stage for his second best actor win, announcing that the theme of his speech would be everything he learned in the 20 years since his first win for The Pianist. He proceeded to babble without interruption or apparent purpose for several minutes, finally started to get played off, instructed the orchestra that he wasn’t leaving, and rambled for several more minutes — and The Director Of The Telecast Never Once Cut To John Lithgow Being Disappointed. The Oscars In Memoriam segment continues to stir upset among viewers as the 2025 ceremony snubbed stars like Michelle Trachtenberg, Shannen Doherty, Tony Todd, Olivia Hussey, and more in its most recent televised presentation. But as viewers began to convey their annoyance over the snub, it must be noted that the Oscars revealed a link that would take viewers to a fuller list of tributes, which includes Trachtenberg, Doherty, and Todd. Longtime Korn bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu opened up about his relationship with his bandmates, revealing that he hasn’t spoken to them in years.

Fieldy stepped away from Korn’s touring activities in June 2021, following the group’s streaming concert event two months prior. Candyman star Tony Todd, who died Wednesday after a long illness, is being remembered by his co-star Virginia Madsen.

The Oscar nominee, who played graduate student Helen Lyle who’s stalked by Todd’s titular hook-handed killer while investigating urban legends at a Chicago housing project in the 1992 horror film, paid tribute to Todd with a series of posts on Instagram.

Madsen initially shared a brief video post after she heard the news of Todd’s death, in which she said she didn’t “know what to say” but called Todd her “beloved.”

“May you rest in power sweet to the sweet in heaven,” Madsen wrote in the caption alongside a video. “The great actor Tony Todd has left us and now is an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can’t right now. I love you.”

He died Wednesday at his home in Marina del Rey after a long illness, his wife, Fatima, told The Hollywood Reporter.

“The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony, -Your Final Destination Family,” New Line Cinema, which produced the franchise, wrote on Instagram.

Born on Dec. 4, 1954, in Washington, Todd went on to study for two years at the University of Connecticut before getting a scholarship for the Eugene O’Neill National Theatre Institute. Let’s face it – Alien movies are not created equal. In my Alien: Romulus review, I noted that there have really only ever been two flawless films in the franchise, with the rest all having moments of genius (well – most of them) but none measuring up to the first two movies in the saga. Amazon MGM Studios and producer Scott Stuber have teamed up to acquire the film adaptation rights to an adult mystery thriller novel proposal by bestselling author Lauren Oliver, and Deadline reports that Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson has boarded the project with the intention of producing it alongside Stuber… and, if she likes the script, she’ll also sign on to play the title character of The Girl in the Lake.

Oliver will write the script for a film that will be developed for United Artists. Scarlett Johansson is eyeing this to star as the title character, subject to script, Deadline hears.

There is something inherently fascinating about gigantic robots fighting each other, at least to a significant portion of the world’s population, and that has understandably given rise to such franchises over the years. Netflix’s new animated series, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, brings back one of these franchises, the Gundam series, to our screens, although the figures in this universe are not technically robots but mobile suits used for warfare controlled by humans inside them. The series comprises six episodes, each around 24 minutes long, and tells the story of a Principality of Zeon pilot, Iria Solari, as she and her team are involved in deadly warfare on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Although Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance might be worth watching for long-time fans of the franchise, it offers hardly anything for newcomers and can easily be skipped.

For this latest reboot, they’ve brought on Fede Álvarez, best known for the “Don’t Breathe” movies and the 2013 remake of Sam Raimi‘s “Evil Dead.”

It’s been a long time since Sigourney Weaver‘s Ripley was leading these things, but for this one, they’ve brought on Cailee Spaeny of “Civil War” and “Priscilla,” as well as Isabela Merced from “Transformers: The Last Knight” and “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

Netflix will release a six-episode series, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, worldwide on October 17, 2024. Actor Sandra Hüller could be the critical darling of awards season with two acclaimed performances in two high-profile international feature contenders, France’s “Anatomy of a Fall” from Justine Triet and United Kingdom’s “The Zone of Interest” from Jonathan Glazer.

The German performer has opted to campaign her work in Glazer’s Holocaust-era drama for best supporting actress, Variety can reveal exclusively, greatly increasing her chances for possible double acting recognition this year.
