“Twisters” star Glen Powell is barely recognizable in the first photo from his upcoming Hulu comedy series, “Chad Powers.”

The streamer announced Thursday that production has begun on the project, which Powell is coproducing with “Loki” executive producer and writer Michael Waldron.

The actor, who was a master of disguise in Richard Linklater’s comic feature “Hit Man” on Netflix, is playing hotheaded quarterback Russ Holliday, who in “Tootsie”-esque twist, is forced to go under cover as the affable Chad Powers to keep playing football.

Powell and Waldron cowrote the pilot. Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, Perry Mattfeld, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez and Quentin Plair costar.

Exclusive: After a successful summer with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Alexander Ludwig has been tapped to star alongside Dafne Keen and Samantha Lorraine in Night Comes, the forthcoming horror thriller marking the feature directorial debut of veteran actor Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad).

Details as to Ludwig’s role are being kept under wraps. Drawing inspiration from films like Birdbox and The Descent, Night Comes unfolds against the backdrop of a cataclysmic event that threatens to engulf humanity. Two sisters manage to escape the horror only to find themselves thrust into a perilous struggle for survival, tasked with a mission that holds the fate of mankind in the balance.

Written by Hernandez, Jason Bourque and Nancy Isaak, the indie hails from Impossible Dream Entertainment and Big Picture Cinema Group, the latter of which is co-financing with Versatile Media. Impossible Dream’s Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick will produce alongside Big Picture Cinema Group’s Jayce Barriero and Jacky Lai, with Hernandez, Keen, Jared Zhang, Graem Luis, Jason Bourque, Joseph Tuck, Steve Read and Matthew Chow exec producing.

As previously mentioned, Ludwig is coming off of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the fourth installment of the buddy cop action franchise from Sony, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. In it, he reprised his role as Dorn, tech expert for Advanced Miami Metro Operations, which he originated in 2020’s Bad Boys for Life. One of the summer’s big hits, the film grossed over $401 million worldwide.

In film, Ludwig’s other credits include Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, The Hunger Games and Lone Survivor, to name just a few. Also known for roles in Starz’s wrestling drama Heels and History Channel’s Vikings, the actor is represented by Gersh and Untitled Entertainment.

The Masked Singer’s loss is Netflix’s gain. Nicole Scherzinger, who helped judge the first 10 seasons of Fox’s celebrity guessing game, is venturing into fresh reality territory as a judge on Netflix’s upcoming series Building the Band, TVLine has learned.

The face (and voice) of The Pussycat Dolls will be joined on the panel by Kelly Rowand of Destiny’s Child and Liam Payne of One Direction. In keeping with the pop group theme, Aj McLean of The Backstreet Boys will host the show.

“Heels” has set its Netflix launch date.

The streamer announced Wednesday that the Starz series, which was canceled after two seasons in September 2023, will become available on Netflix on Sept. 15. Both seasons of the series will drop on that date. Netflix had previously announced in April that it had licensed the series. “Heels” aired its first season on Starz in 2021, with the second season following in 2023.

That is good news for fans of the show, which followed the professional wrestlers of the Duffy Wrestling League, a small independent promotion in Georgia. Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) inherited the league from his father and now struggles to keep it afloat while also trying to take it to the next level.

Starz canceled the series in 2023. Just about a year after last summer’s “Suits” streaming boom, “Suits: L.A.” is picking up steam.

Led by “Arrow” star Stephen Amell, the new legal procedural centers on former New York federal prosecutor Ted Black (Amell), who reinvents himself at a Los Angeles law firm representing the city’s most powerful clients.

The spin-off series, which is headed up by much of the original “Suits” team, recently received a series order from NBC, shifting to another NBCUniversal-owned network after “Suits” aired on USA Network for nine seasons.

It chronicled the story of the Spade brothers – Jack and Ace portrayed by Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, who are working to keep their father’s independent wrestling promotion afloat after his death. Vikings star Alexander Ludwig famously labeled his experience of filming Heels as “painful.”

Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig‘s wrestling series Heels was canceled by Starz after two seasons, but there’s a chance the show might have extra life.

It was just announced that Netflix has acquired nonexclusive rights to the first two seasons of the show and will soon stream all 16 episodes that have already aired.

So, what does this mean for a season three?

The Hollywood Reporter says that “while Netflix has not renewed the series, the streamer could wind up doing so should Heels perform well on the platform.”

So basically, if enough people watch Heels seasons one and two once they’re added to Netflix, the streamer might order a third season.

It might be tough to get a third season though with Stephen and Alexander both moving on to other shows. It definitely looks like Stephen is excited though. See his reaction below!

Following its cancellation at Starz after two seasons, Netflix has licensed the wrestling drama from Lionsgate, TVLine has confirmed. All sixteen episodes will stream on the platform, though a release date has not yet been set.

Heels has nailed its landing after Starz canceled the series in 2023. Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group have agreed to a licensing agreement for the two seasons of critically-acclaimed drama from Mike O’Malley.

Deadline has learned there is an option for a third season, but that all depends on the availability of stars Stephen Amell, who booked the lead role in the Suits spinoff, and Alexander Ludwig, who’s toplining Earth Abides for MGM+. A spokesman for Lionsgate declined to comment.

Heels revolves around the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals (Amell and Ludwig) war over their late father’s legacy. The drama, which was unceremoniously canceled along with a couple more series as Starz cleaned house in September, has been licensed to Netflix by Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution. With the acquisition, Netflix will have non-exclusive rights to the two-season, 16-episode library of the wrestling drama starring Stephen Amell (Arrow) and Alexander Ludwig (Vikings).

Sources also note that while Netflix has not renewed the series, the streamer could wind up doing so should Heels perform well on the platform. Those same sources also caution that a third season, even in success, could still be a logistical challenge. Amell — a die-hard wrestling fan who often would perform his own stunts on Heels — signed on in February as the lead in NBC’s highly anticipated spinoff of Suits. The offshoot of the former USA Network original is one of but five pilots in the works at NBC.
