Bingo is a film 'à clef', where real life characters and brands have names changed to avoid legal issues: Bingo is the American clown franchise Bozo, TV Mundial stands for the powerful Brazilian network Globo, TVP is its rival TVS (now SBT), Lulu is the children's show host Xuxa. The real name of main character Augusto Mendes, Arlindo Barreto, is revealed at the end. Singer and dancer Gretchen is the only keeping her real life counterpart's name.

Great movie and great performances. Funny and harcore life of Bozo!

I think it is one of best brazilian movies since City of God's Fernando Meirelles and Elite Squad's José Padilha duology. Very funny, very intense, very alive as like the Bozo himself and the 80s age. Fame, drugs, irreverence and a kind of freedom that we will never have again in television. I felt like it was really genuine as the real life is.
