We had a wonderful summer, and now we'll soon be starting a new season. On Sept. 22, it'll be the first day of fall, and you know what that means. It's time to clear out your Netflix watchlist so that you can add a bunch of new content to it.

If you're looking for something to watch that'll have your heart racing and keep you on the edge of your seat, then you must check out these eight best action movies on Netflix that we shared below. Two of the films listed haven't been released yet and will come out later this year. Don't worry. We'll make sure to share their official release dates as well.

Principal photography has begun on “Plan C,” the feature directorial debut of Scott Anthony Cavalheiro, known for his acting role in “Schitt’s Creek.”

The film is currently shooting on location in the Greater Toronto Area and Windsor/Essex, with production scheduled to continue through August.

The crime thriller tells the story of siblings Clare and Danny on the run after a robbery gone awry. The film promises a mix of action and suspense, with car chases, difficult decisions and unexpected twists.

The cast features Claire Cavalheiro (“Man Seeking Woman”) and Daniel DeSanto (“Mean Girls”) in leading roles, with Hollywood veteran Vivica A. Fox rounding out the top-billed performers. Supporting cast includes Jamie Spilchuk (“Defining Moments”), Joris Jarsky (“Saw V”), Kris Holden-Ried and Kylee Evans (“Luckiest Girl Alive”).

Claire Cavalheiro and Scott Anthony Cavalheiro are producing under their Stained Tie Films banner, with Gerry Lattmann of The Dot Film Company serving as line producer.

Have you noticed that a lot of science-fiction movies haven't felt so fictional of late? Oh sure, the genre has always been about our real-world problems in the present day. When cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell teamed with filmmakers Jeff Chan and Chris Paré in 2016, on the short film Code 8, they had little concept for the journey that laid ahead of them, which would see them build their own successful sci-fi franchise from the ground up.

After self-financing the 10-minute film and watching it garner over 7 million views on YouTube, the team moved to crowdfund a Code 8 feature via Indiegogo, far surpassing their goal at a take exceeding $2.5Mm. When the film debuted on Netflix at peak Covid, in April 2020 — four months after hitting theaters and VOD — it achieved such strong viewership that Netflix moved to finance a sequel itself, one that would mark the service’s first original English-language Canadian feature. It debuted at #1 on its English-Language Films chart for the week of February 26 and brought the original film atop the charts once more, at #4.

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon’s hit animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” hit 19.9 million views from Feb. 26 to March 3, which earned it its second week at No. 1 on the Netflix Top 10. However, this marks a 6% decrease from the 21.2 million views it debuted with the week before, when it was only available for four days.

The viewership drop doesn’t bode well for the big-budget series, as Netflix’s largest titles typically grow in viewership between their debuts and their first full weeks of of availability. For example, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the manga “One Piece” debuted with 18.5 million views in its first four days, then held No. 1 with 19.3 million views the week after.

With 5.1 million views, “Love Is Blind” was the second-most-watched TV title from Feb. 26 to March 3, during which the 10th episode of its sixth season was released. This is the season’s third week...

The live-action Netflix series was once again on top of the TV list from February 26 to March 3 with 19.9M views in its first full week on the platform. That’s slightly down from last week, but still by far the most-watched series on the platform during this interval.

Avatar still has a bit of a long way to go before it would break into Netflix’s most popular TV list. So far, it’s racked up about 40M of the 83M views it would need to surpass The Witcher Season 1, which is currently sitting in 10th place. There is plenty of time to make that happen, though, since the series has a hefty 91-day premiere window to do so.

So far, 2024 has seen everything from a cult favorite sci-fi comedy to a forgotten Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie film hitting the Netflix Top 10 charts. Thankfully, Hart has now departed the charts to make way for more popular films and TV on Netflix, and this month there's a particular Canadian franchise that's managed to capture viewers' attention.

It’s unsurprising that Adam Sandler’s “Spaceman” is an immediate #1 for Netflix, but you have to wonder if the Sandler audience knew what it was getting: It’s the story of a long-distance solo astronaut who encounters loneliness and a mutant spider on his journey to Venus. Directed by Johan Renck, who won a DGA Award for his direction of HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” it premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Reviews are mediocre and, per Netflix practice, it had token one-week showings in limited theaters. “Spaceman: debuted on the streamer March 1 and it will be interesting to see what kind of hold it maintains. For now, it’s another example of how Sandler uses his Netflix deal to expand his scope. (The film was produced by Channing Tatum’s Free Association.)

The film costars Carey Mulligan, currently a Best Actress Oscar nominee for another Netflix original, “Maestro.

Code 8 was a crowd-funded flick that debuted on the big screen in 2019 before Covid-19 shut down movie theaters. Netflix picked up the rights to the movie featuring Arrow star Stephen Amell and The Flash actor Robbie Amell, who also served as producers on the movie and the short film that inspired it. A solid genre offering, Code 8 almost immediately was on pace for a Quibi sequel series before that platform went belly up. The second part of Code 8 is as packed with action as the first part of the film. The director, Jeff Chan, has done an excellent job creating an equally appealing sequel to the film Code 8 (2019). We are driven into a world where only 4% of the people have special powers, and they are kept in close check by the police. They are constantly under threat of being obliterated by the police forces! After spending some years in jail, Connor is finally free, and he finally thinks that he will be able to lead a peaceful life. However, if one ever gets associated with the criminal world, then they will never stop being tainted by the karma of their past deeds. This time, Connor, however, makes it a mission to save an innocent girl, Pavani, from being threatened by external forces after losing her brother to the modernized method of policing.

Code 8 Part II is the sequel to “Code 8“. It stars Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell. It is directed by Jeff Chan and you can watch it on Netflix.

Today, we are presented with this sequel to a movie that, despite its low budget, was a huge success on Netflix. This second installment follows the formula of the first one, with a similar pace and aesthetic, but with better effects, a bigger budget, and identical plot lines. It is less surprising in terms of the dystopian narrative it presents, but more impactful visually, improving upon the first movie.

Back when the Covid-19 pandemic ruled the world in April 2020, “Code 8” dropped on Netflix to rave reviews. It’s the story of a little movie that could: Canadian director Jeff Chan fundraised $3.4 million to make his sci-fi genre picture, about a man with superpowers who reluctantly helps out a band of criminals for money to help his sick mother. Cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell reunite for the Code 8 sequel, Code 8 Part II, which just dropped its first teaser trailer. Released in 2019, Code 8 introduced a world in which 4% of the population has supernatural abilities. Those with special talents are discriminated against and are often forced into a life of crime just to get by.

In the original film, Garrett (Stephen Amell) convinced Connor (Robbie Amell) to work for a crime syndicate, a move that ultimately led to Connor going to prison.

Although Garrett and Connor have parted ways by the end of Code 8, they’ll be thrust back together in the sequel. “I want Connor to have to really deal with the ramifications of his actions in Code 8,” explained director Jeff Chan in a feature on Netflix’s Tudum. “But despite his current situation, Connor is a good and noble person at heart — a protector.”

After announcing that production had started on Season 3 of “The Witcher” earlier this month, Netflix has revealed four new cast members who are joining Geralt (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) on their next adventure.

Laysla De Oliveira will star alongside Zoe Saldaña in the upcoming Paramount Plus series “Lioness” from Taylor Sheridan, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series is based on a real-life CIA program and follows Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira), described as a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine, who is recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within. Saldaña will play Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives. The series is set to go into production in June.

De Oliveira currently stars in the Netflix series “Locke & Key,” with the third season of that series set to debut later in 2022. She has also previously starred in films such as “In the Tall Grass,” “Guest of Honour,” “Needle in a Timestack,” and “Code 8.”

XYZ Films has struck a first-look production deal with Toronto- and Los Angeles-based producer Lee Kim, who produced Sundance sci-fi title “Dual” and oversees Resolute Films and Entertainment.

Under the deal, XYZ and Resolute will jointly produce a number of titles per year, with a focus on films helmed by diverse directors and international co-productions, particularly with Kim’s native Canada.

XYZ and Resolute most recently collaborated on Riley Stearns’ “Dual,” which is playing in Sundance’s U.S. Dramatic Competition. The film, which was shot entirely in Finland during the pandemic, follows a woman who must go to battle with a clone of herself that she commissioned when she thought she was dying. It stars Karen Gillan, Aaron Paul and Beulah Koale.

User-submitted story-writing company Wattpad has announced the latest film to emerge from its platform, which counts 80 million users.

Wattpad is partnering with film studio Collective Pictures (which produced the Netflix sci-fit hit Code 8) on Float -- based on the hit story of the same name written by USC graduate Kate Marchant, which has accumulated 25.5 million global reads to become one of Wattpad's top Teen Fiction stories. Canadian actor and producer Robbie Amell (pictured above) -- who also starred in Code 8 -- will produce and star in the teen romance. (Both Wattpad and Collective Pictures are headquartered in Toronto).

Float follows a young girl named Waverly, who moves to live with her aunt for the summer after her parents’ messy divorce, whereupon she clashes with one of her new neighbors -- an arrogant beach bum (played by Amell), who offers to teach her own to swim.
