After being premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and the South by Southwest Film Festival, actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s production venture ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ has been officially selected for screening at this year’s TIFF Next Wave Film Festival.

The event is scheduled to run from April 11 to 14, with the screening of ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ set to take place on April 14.

Richa commented: “Being selected for TIFF Next Wave is a huge honour for us. It’s incredibly gratifying to see our film resonate with audiences worldwide and be recognised by such esteemed festivals. ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ is a project that is very close to our hearts, and to witness its journey from conception to being screened at TIFF is truly overwhelming.

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, who has recently collaborated with actor Ali Fazal for the spy thriller ‘Khufiya’, shared how he was fascinated by the latter’s previous performances, saying he was looking for an opportunity to work with him.

Ali is best known for his role of Guddu Pandit in the action crime thriller web series ‘Mirzapur’. Apart from Ali, it also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi Shamra, Divyenndu, Vikrant Massey, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in pivotal roles.

Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore in the final six Harry Potter movies, has died.

He was 82.

Gambon's family revealed in a statement that he passed away while battling pneumonia.

The statement on behalf of his wife, Lady Gambon, and son, Fergus Gambon, issued by publicist Clair Dobbs, said:

"We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon."

"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82."

"We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love."

Michael was born in Dublin, Ireland, on October 19, 1940.

His mother was a seamstress, and his father was an engineer.

He left school at 15 and began training to be a toolmaker.

At age 21, he was a qualified engineer, but he aspired to act and gave up the profession shortly after.

Gambon appeared as Albus Dumbledore in six ‘Harry Potter’ films.

“Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley,” based on Christie’s 1931 novel “The Sittaford Mystery,” was adapted as a series for Indian streamer SonyLIV by renowned filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is expanding its membership.

According to a press release, the organization that hands out Oscars each year at the Academy Awards has extended invitations to join the Academy to 398 artists and executives who have made notable contributions to the motion picture industry.

“The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in a joint statement.

There are some big names and familiar faces among the invitees, including musicians Taylor Swift and David Byrne, and numerous actors, ranging from Selma Blair to Keke Palmer to “Elvis” Oscar nominee Austin Butler.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the names of its newest round of invitees, increasing the number of voting members past 10,000, should everyone accept.

With the addition of the 398 artists and executives that the Academy extended invitations to (totaling one more invite than last year), the Academy now boasts a membership that is 34 percent women, 18 percent from underrepresented ethnic and racial communities, and 20 percent from countries or territories outside of the United States. Though their invites have a rolling deadline, they must accept them and pay dues in order to vote for the Oscars and gain access to benefits like the Academy Screening Room.

Rome, May 12 (Ians) Actor Ali Fazal is set to attend the international premiere of ‘Fast X’ in Rome.

The actor made his international debut with the seventh installment of the mega-action ‘Fast and the Furious’, and has been invited to attend the premiere as part of his past involvement with the franchise.

Fazal will be seen alongside Vin Diesel and Jason Mamoa at the premiere, which is taking place on May 11 in Rome.

“The Lost King” tells the story of Philippa Langley (Sally Hawkins), a self-guided historian who seemingly stumbles upon the remains of Richard III, only to be thwarted by various forces that doubt her discovery, much of them in academia.

Exclusive: Deadline has the first pair of exclusive tracks from Thomas Newman’s score for Operation Mincemeat, which is set for digital release via Lakeshore Records tomorrow, as Warner Bros. releases the film in the UK and Ireland.

Operation Mincemeat tells the extraordinary story of two intelligence officers that changed the course of World War II, saving tens of thousands of lives and breaking Hitler’s deadly grip on Europe by recruiting the skills of the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man.

For the drama, Newman looked to craft a striking orchestral score, which evoked intensely dramatic action, while befitting more nuanced moments. The film was directed by John Madden, with whom Newman had previously collaborated on titles including The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and The Debt. “John Madden is the perfect collaborator. Whip-smart, full of humor and a savvy listener,” says the composer.

Described as a “dark and funny heist series,” the show follows the aftermath of a heist, with the crew being picked off one-by-one by what appears to be a serial killer. Principal photography has already kicked off.

“Candyman’s” Nathan Stewart-Jarrett has previously been announced as the eight-episode show’s lead, Joe.

Arterton will play Dianne while Howell-Baptiste will play Officer.

Joining them are Niamh Algar (“Deceit”) as Psycho, Kamel El Basha (“The Insult”) as Youssef, newcomer Tara Abboud as Azar, Kevin Vidal (“Strays”) as Jules, Ned Dennehy (“Good Omens”) as Devil and Eddie Izzard (“Victoria and Abdul”) as Vincent.

“Cuprits” is a Character 7 production.

Shooting begins on the film this week in the UK, with Metro International Entertainment attached for world sales.

The untitled project comes from Polygram Entertainment, and will follow a biopic format centering on their decades-long bond — one that exploded to the heights of pop culture with the flagship MTV reality series “The Osbournes.” Oscar nominee Lee Hall (“Billy Elliot”) is scripting the project.

“Our relationship at times was often wild, insane and dangerous but it was our undying love that kept us together,” said Sharon Osbourne. “We’re thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures and Polygram to bring our story to the screen.”

Exclusive: Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival (October 23-30), the Middle East’s first sizeable Covid-era physical film event, has set Peter Webber (Girl With A Pearl Earring) as jury president.

As August winds down, it’s time to look ahead to everything that’s hitting the major streaming services in September. As always, there’s an enormous haul of originals and newly licensed titles going up across Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video over the month, including content from every genre out there.

The first day of September brings the usual lengthy list of movies arriving on most of the sites. Just a few of the highlights include all three Back to the Future films returning to Netflix, every entry in the Twilight saga arriving on Hulu and countless iconic movies going up on HBO Max, including Grease, Miss Congeniality and V for Vendetta. Also, Doctor Who fans will want to take note, as the most recent season of the show lands on HBO Max the same day.

Highlights include Ridley Scott’s “Raised by Wolves,” out Sept. 3, which follows two androids raising a human child on a distant planet; “Coastal Elites” starring Bette Midler, Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Levy, Sarah Paulson and Issa Rae, out Sept. 12, and “The Murders at White House Farm,” which is out in Sept. but doesn’t yet have an exact premiere date.

WarnerMedia’s grand streaming experiment continues apace with HBO Max’s list of new releases for September 2020.

This month, HBO Max is bring some serious dramatic heat with the Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi series Raised by Wolves arriving on Sept. 3. And if science fiction isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, then HBO Max has identified something that is: true crime. The Murders at White House Farm will arrive at a date to be determined in September.

In addition to those intriguing original offerings, HBO Max is making the best of its WarnerMedia library this month. Doctor Who season 12 makes its long-awaited streaming debut on Sept. 1. Also arriving on the first of the month are Clerks, Election, and the hopefully-not-too-timely V for Vendetta.

Recent horror hit The Invisible Man arrives on Sept. 19. It is complemented by HBO Max original comedy Unpregnant on Sept. 10.

We had planned to visit family in India this summer, but instead I'm adding my notes to these travel tips for friends. And each Sunday night, I'm watching Beecham House, which premiered last month on PBS Masterpiece for Us audiences.

Set in India, Beecham House's six episodes narrate a fact-based fiction of an Englishman living in Delhi in the late 19th century. It is written, produced, and directed by Gurinder Chadha, whose films like Blinded by the Light have astutely championed the nuances of Indian culture, featuring familial care, domesticity, coming of age, marriage, parenthood, or larger issues like racial discrimination, prejudice, and even ethnic violence. Beecham House attempts a monumental task: creating a glimpse into the complex power struggles among capitalist empires that plundered colonial India...

The coronavirus postponement of Bond film “No Time to Die” is the box-office story of the moment, one that could augur future blockbuster shifts. At a minimum, it wreaks a measure of havoc on the release calendar: Other films stayed away from its original date, and now it will open during the highly competitive Thanksgiving holiday period. The risks to studio and theater revenues show how a virus could upend an industry.

However, this weekend also brings a near certainty: Box office should easily fall short of $140 million, pushing the year-to-date number below 2019 for the first time. Last year, “Captain Marvel” accounted for about 75 percent of the business for a weekend total of $211 million. That makes keeping the release schedule steady even more important for theaters.

Focus Features proved this weekend that Jane Austen’s classic of romantic misadventures and the humor that goes with it remains timeless. Emma., Autumn de Wilde’s visionary and fresh adaptation of the Austen novel, opened in five theaters in New York and Los Angeles to strong numbers, grossing an estimated $230,000. This brought the per-theater average to $46,000, which is the highest of any specialty opening this year — not too shabby for the Anya Taylor-Joy-led period rom-com.

The five runs across the Landmark, Alamo Drafthouse and Angelika in New York and the Arclight Hollywood and Landmark in Los Angeles are all reporting impressive numbers as the film sits at an 88% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences seem to love it as they have ranked it at 100%.

The Screen Actors Guild is the biggest Hollywood guild that gives out awards, with more than 100,000 members. But the SAG Awards nominations are only given out by a fraction of that number, by randomly chosen film and television nominating committees of a little more than 2,000 people each — and because of that, the results can seem a little random at times, too.

And so they did on Wednesday, when the 26th annual SAG Awards nominations were announced. “The Irishman” landed an all-important ensemble nomination, along with individual noms for costars Al Pacino and Joe Pesci — but Robert De Niro, an acting icon who plays the lead in the film, was overlooked just as he was in the Golden Globe nominations on Monday. Of course, he can take some solace in the fact that SAG is giving him a Lifetime Achievement Award this year, so maybe voters figured he didn’t need...

Carter could well win a bookend this year for her work on “Dolemite Is My Name.”

In this well-received biopic, Eddie Murphy portrays Rudy Ray Moore, a comedian who proved the naysayers wrong when he became a film star in the 1970s. That decade has come back into fashion with the costume designers branch of the academy, reaping bids for Danny Glicker (“Milk” 2009), Michael Wilkinson and Mark Bridges.

“Covers” is set within the talent, fame and fast-paced world of Hollywood’s music scene. “Late Night” director Nisha Ganatra is helming from a screenplay by Flora Greeson. Production is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Pullman’s credits include “Battle of the Sexes” and USA Networks’ “The Sinner.” Izzard most recently starred in “Victoria & Abdul.” Diplo has worked with artists including Beyoncé, Justin Bieber and Madonna. His most recent acting credit was in Detective Pikachu.

Exclusive: Adeel Akhtar, who was recently seen opposite Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Netflix’s highly-viewed original movie Murder Mystery, has landed a role in the Enola Holmes film adaptation from Legendary. He joins Millie Bobby Brown who will star as the titular character as well as Henry Cavill who is down for the role of Sherlock Holmes and Helena Bonham Carter as Enola’s mother.

Directed by Harry Bradbeer, the pic is based on Nancy Springer’s six-book series, The Enola Holmes Mysteries, which follows the adventures of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ much younger sister, Enola, a highly capable detective in her own right. Jack Thorne adapted the screenplay.

Brown and Paige Brown are producing through their Pcma Productions shingle alongside Legendary, while Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes will oversee for the studio.
