Traditional horror movies with an easy-to-follow plot, relatable characters, and a healthy dose of scares are probably every horror fan’s comfort food. That’s because, when it comes to horror, the experimental and abstract genre pieces can be very hit or miss. In 2024 alone, I have come across In A Violent Nature, and I loved its take on the slasher subgenre. Bramayugam’s exploration of casteism and classism on a monochrome canvas was excellent. Oddity’s portrayal of revenge was haunting. And Outside’s use of the zombie subgenre to talk about the patriarchy was worthy of all the applause in the world. Then you have movies like Night Swim, The Devil’s Bath, Consumed, Baghead, The Hangman, Munjya, MadS, Mr. Crocket, and Don’t Move, which undoubtedly have a good concept at their core, but the execution is simply too muddled to be impactful. I am sad to say that...

Frank Grillo knows what he wants.
The erstwhile Crossbones of the MCU has crafted a niche for himself as a contemporary Charles Bronson over the last decade, parlaying mainstream buzz from projects like “The Purge 2” and Mma drama series “Warrior” into a string of superior indie action movies — even if he himself shies away from Bronson comparisons when speaking about his career.
“Not that I’m comparing myself to Charles Bronson, because I couldn’t,” Grillo told IndieWire during a recent interview over Zoom, adding with a laugh, “Charles Bronson never took his shirt off on a soap opera.”
With respect to Grillo, Bronson simply didn’t have the same range. Grillo emerged from a three-year run on “Guiding Light” in the late ’90s to a decade as a working actor before landing a juicy supporting role in the Liam Neeson-starring “The Grey.” Then came 2014 and his role...

Frank Grillo has an insatiable appetite for flexing his movie muscles.
The actor is superhumanly prolific, practically cornering the market on macho roles as he veers from facing off with Captain America in “The Winter Soldier” to entering the ring with Nick Jonas in “Kingdom.” Since 2014, the 55-year-old Grillo has starred or had a supporting turn in 30 films or television shows, eight of which are scheduled to debut in 2021 alone. But he insists that he’ll hang up his spurs the second he stops feeling a thrill when he sees his name in lights or his face on a billboard.
“The day that isn’t cool is the day you should ride off into the sunset and stop doing it,” says Grillo. “It’s pretty magical to be able to make movies. It’s pretty magical to have people come up to you and say, ‘Hey, you were great in...

Hollywood veteran Mel Gibson will be seen in Joe Carnahan's thriller "Leo From Toledo". The film also features and Frank Grillo, the star of films such as "Wheelman" and "Point Blank".
Gibson said: "I've seldom had more fun than sitting in a writer's room with producer Lawrence Grey and writer-director Joe Carnahan, while we spit balled on this story. It's a tight, fast thriller, but its quirky observations had me in stitches."

The project centres on a former killer for the Kansas City mob (Gibson), now hiding in witness protection and having trouble remembering simple things.

The project centres on a former killer for the Kansas City mob (Gibson), now hiding in witness protection and having trouble remembering simple things.

In a previous iteration of the movie business, a derivative B movie such as “Reprisal” would have provided gainful employment for actors such as Eric Roberts, Ice-t, and Gary Busey — who, truth to tell, likely would have delivered more than a fair share of down-and-dirty cheap thrills — and premiered on the New Releases shelf at Blockbuster Video stores everywhere. That was then, this is now: Fodder of this kind can land at least a smattering of theatrical engagements on the same day it’s made available on demand. And yet, it probably, and deservedly, will have an even shorter shelf life than direct-to-video product of yesteryear, despite the marquee value of Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo in lead roles.
Indeed, with all due respect to Willis, whose admirable professionalism permits him to bring a second dimension to the flat role he’s given here, the few curiosity-seekers who bother to...

Chicago – Actor Frank Grillo is on the rise, as evidenced from his high profile supporting role in Marvel Studios “Captain America: Civil War” and portraying Sgt. Barnes in “The Purge” series of horror films. He recently has partnered in a production company (WarParty Films) and is the title character in their debut movie “Wheelman,” which is distributed and available now on Netflix, as part of their film group.
The “Wheelman” is also the debut film for writer/director Jeremy Rush, and currently has an 88% favorability rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In this tense thriller, Grillo portrays a getaway driver who is double crossed, and suddenly has to protect his family from retribution. The film’s scenes takes place mostly in the vehicles that the Wheelman drives – similar to the movie “Locke” from 2013 – and features Grillo at his action star best.

Fall is upon us, and with it a fresh new crop of Netflix movies to curl up with when the weather starts to turn. Next month’s most exciting addition to the streaming service is “Mudbound,” the Southern World Ward II epic from up-and-comer-turned-force-to-be-reckoned-with Dee Rees. Netflix sealed the biggest deal of this year’s Sundance Film Festival when it paid a whopping $12.5 million for “Mudbound,” setting a high bar for the drama. Balancing out the heavier fare are classic comedies like “Men In Black” and “Scary Movie,” as well as “Field of Dreams” and “42” for the baseball lovers.
The fresh crop also includes a bevy of critically acclaimed documentaries, such as “Eventual Salvation,” “Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary,” and “Cuba and the Cameraman.” Jim Carrey’s creative process gets a deep dive in “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond,” which includes never-before-seen behind the scenes footage from Milos Forman...

[Editors Note: This article is presented in partnership with Netflix’s original film “Wheelman”– now streaming exclusively on Netflix.]
Frank Grillo is the kind of guy you would trust with your life — or at least he seems like it.
The 52-year-old New York City native has cultivated a career out of playing someone you’d want in your corner — a small-town police chief, a commanding officer in the Army, and even a Marvel super villain — on screens both big and small. (For what it’s worth, his character in “Purge 3: Election Year” also passionately dedicated his life to protecting the first female president. Do with that what you will.)
But the secret to Grillo’s success goes beyond mastering the tough-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold act. There’s an authentic vulnerability to the characters he brings to life on screen, most recently Mma fighter-turned-trainer Alvey Kulina in the critically acclaimed DirecTV drama “Kingdom,” which concluded its four-season run earlier this year.

The new trailer is here for Beyond Skyline, Liam O’Donnell’s sci-fi sequel to Skyline.
Starring Frank Grillo, Bojana Novakovic, Jonny Weston, Yayan Ruhian, and Iko Uwais, the film opens in theaters, alongside that other little sci-fi film, on December 15.
Frank Grillo has starred in the highly successful Purge franchise, The Grey, as Brock Rumlow / Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War and in the upcoming Netflix movie Wheelman, to be released on October 20, 2017.
In Beyond Skyline, when the population of Los Angeles is vacuumed off the face of the earth, Detective Mark Corley (Grillo) storms his way onto an alien ship to rescue his estranged son. But after crashing the ship in Southeast Asia, he must forge an alliance with a band of survivors to discover the key to saving his son and taking back the planet once and for all.

"You don't listen to me... you're gunna get hurt." Netflix has revealed a new full-length trailer for an action film titled Wheelman, about a "wheelman" getaway driver. We featured a teaser trailer for this last month, and here's the full trailer to follow that. Wheelman is told entirely from the perspective of the driver, with most shots inside the car, taking place over the course of one night and one bank robbery that goes terribly wrong. Frank Grillo plays the wheelman, co-starring Garret Dillahunt, Caitlin Carmichael, Wendy Moniz, and William Xifaras. This actually looks pretty damn good, and buzz from Fantastic Fest seems to indicate it might even exceed expectations. This really does look a lot like a grittier Baby Driver, though. Here's the official full-length trailer for Jeremy Rush's Wheelman, direct from Netflix's YouTube: You can still watch the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Wheelman here, to see a different take on this.

Netflix has got another great looking movie coming out called Wheelman, which stars Frank Grillo. Today we have an action-packed new trailer for you to watch, and I think you'll like what you see, especially if you're a fan of Grillo.
Frank Grillo (Kingdom, Captain America: Civil War) stars as the wheelman, a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him and the only person he can trust… his thirteen-year-old daughter. All reasons to think fast and drive faster.
It's a simple story premise, but it looks like it's an awesomely executed film that's going to be a thrilling and intense. Wheelman was written and directed by Jeremy Rush. and Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team) is producing.

Wheelman exists at a tricky crossroads. It’s the kind of down and dirty, modestly budgeted thriller made for an adult audience that major studios tend to shy away from these days. But as a Netflix original movie, very few people will have the chance to experience it on the big screen, which is a shame […]

Back when the Wheelman teaser trailer came out, it was little more than a barrage of imagery, all held together by the angular, grizzled face of Frank Grillo, definite contender for the America’s Hard-Bitten Badass Award. Now, we’ve got a full trailer—and it’s all Grillo, all the time.

You might not realize it, but Frank Grillo is kind of a huge deal. Well, certainly in China, where he’s the co-star of “Wolf Warrior 2,” the fifth highest grossing film of the year globally, earning $870 million. And that’s mostly in part due to China’s box office. That’s pretty crazy, and although the actor’s time might be about to arrive, he’s keeping it lean and mean for his next film.
