If you poll one hundred people and ask their opinions on the Marvel Netflix shows, you’ll likely get one hundred different responses. Each show had different themes and vibes. It makes sense considering each character differed in various ways. And, if we're being honest, the ball was dropped on some of the programs.
As Marvel Studios began pushing to bring their comic book characters “home”, Netflix canceled their Marvel shows. After that, it seemed like we’d seen the last of Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones. Thanks to a report from Entertainment Weekly, they could become part of the MCU like Charlie Cox's Daredevil.
Marvel's head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum said, "we are very much exploring" bringing back Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist/Danny Rand to the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

We've said it many times before, but allow me to say it again: Anything can happen in the MCU. Marvel Studios is no stranger to making the impossible come to fruition. Remember, this is the same studio that brought together characters of 20+ movies for Avengers: Endgame and now it looks to do the same for characters from across the whole multiverse in the next two Avengers movies.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a breeding ground for potential and, more often than not, it realizes that potential, whether that's in big-budget action movies or in innovative Disney Plus shows that think outside the box. Quite simply, Marvel Studios has all the potential in the world (or multiverse) to make magic happen, and now it sounds like it plans on doing the same again.

Marvel characters have been dominating movies for as long as we can remember. It's more common than ever now due to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that franchise's absolute non-stop rise to success over the past two decades, but there have been plenty of Marvel superheroes on our screens for a lot longer than that.
Throughout that time, there have been the highs of the McU's game-changing Avengers movies, the thrills of that same series' Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the lows of some of the recent misses from Sony's Spider-Verse movies, Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter. Yes, the latter of those options exist, because just like with every genre of movie, there is such a thing as a bad Marvel movie.
Now, one of the first to ever hold the title of being one of the worst Marvel films has made its presence felt on Disney Plus.

With “Daredevil: Born Again” now streaming on Disney+, picking up the story of Netflix’s “Daredevil” almost seven years later, you might find yourself wanting to check out other corners of the Marvel world, as Netflix envisioned them. And, like the MCU, there is a correct order to do that in.
For the record, we’d say that you don’t have to watch “Daredevil” in order to understand “Born Again” (here’s why). But we definitely think you should, at least if you’re interested in Marvel’s no-kill superhero.
From there, you can meet his friends, who are introduced in the other Netflix Marvel shows. But there are a few ways you can go about it.

Love it or hate it, Rotten Tomatoes is now more important than ever when it comes to whether film and TV fans decide to check out the latest releases at home or in theaters, and it's not uncommon for studios to tout scores as proudly as star ratings.
In 2015, Marvel Television and Netflix launched Daredevil. That was followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and, eventually, an Avengers-inspired team-up called The Defenders. There was even a spin-off for The Punisher.
Following this week's premiere of Daredevil: Born Again, we're taking a look at how each of the shows set in his corner of the MCU compare based on their respective Rotten Tomatoes scores. This era of storytelling was something of a mixed bag and you'll likely be surprised by how these shows fared with critics.

As fans celebrated the film mastery of the late Gene Hackman over the past week, some pondered the sliding-door moment that could have changed his acting career forever. After all, if sitcom producer Sherwood Schwartz had his way, the unknown Broadway actor would have been cast as Mike Brady, patriarch of The Brady Bunch.
Hackman was Schwartz’s first choice for the role, but ABC executives rejected the idea. Who had heard of Gene Hackman? They wanted someone with more experience like Robert Reed, who TV viewers knew well from several seasons starring in ‘60s legal drama The Defenders. Hackman, on the other hand, only had one-shot appearances on shows like I Spy, The FBI and Route 66. Ironically, he also guested twice on The Defenders.
Lucky for everyone, Hackman didn’t get the part, clearing the way for an Academy Award just a couple of years later for The French Connection.

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again.
Daredevil: Born Again opened its first episode with a downward spiral, killing off Elden Henson’s Foggy and setting Matt down a path of indecision, at least when it comes to being Daredevil. While his law practice seems to be thriving, Matt’s only motivation to come out of retirement was Wilson Fisk.
While Matt has all sorts of coping mechanisms that could have helped him figure out Foggy’s death, Karen might be on her way to following her comics route, which puts her in a very dark place in her life, and also in the narrative.

Élodie Yung played Elektra Natchios in Netflix’s Daredevil in the second season and later reprised the role in The Defenders. Yung’s Elektra appeared as the former lover of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock in the series and fans took quite a liking to her. Unlike Jennifer Garner’s version of the career, Yung’s character tapped more into the antagonistic side of Elektra.

Can Apple TV+'s Severance or HBO's The Last of Us win Best Drama Series? For most of Emmy history, the answer to that question would be no. That's because they're science-fiction shows, which have historically been under-appreciated by voters and thus underrepresented at the Emmys. Only one sci-fi show has ever won Best Drama Series: Lost in 2005. That was 20 years ago, but the TV Academy has changed drastically in the intervening years.
Some of the most beloved shows in TV history are sci-fi or fantasy, including Star Trek and Doctor Who that have been around for almost as long as TV has existed. But Emmy winners for drama series usually follow real-world professionals like doctors, lawyers, and police officers. Even as those procedural genres started falling out of fashion in the 21st century, the subjects that replaced them were still couched in reality: politics (The West Wing), organized crime,...

Daredevil: Born Again left us with plenty to discuss, but amid all those big talking points, you might have missed a cameo from an MCU veteran. And we're not talking about a superhero.
When the news breaks that Wilson Fisk has been officially elected the 112th Mayor of New York City with 53% of the vote, real-life Spectrum News NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan is the one who shares word of the Kingpin's victory.
He's racked up more than a dozen MCU appearances since 2012 so, yes, he's deserving of that "veteran" label.
Kiernan first appeared in The Avengers and later showed up in Iron Man 3. However, his link to the Man Without Fear comes courtesy of three cameos in Netflix's Daredevil. He also showed up in The Defenders and The Punisher before returning to the big screen with Doctor Strange.

It’s been a long wait, but Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is finally front and center in his own series again with “Daredevil: Born Again.” After three seasons leading the formerly-of-Netflix series “Daredevil” (as well as one season of “The Defenders” and a few MCU drop-ins), Cox and Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio are back for the Disney+ series.
A new streaming home also means a new release schedule, and while “Daredevil” diehards may be used to a 13-hour binge-watch, “Born Again” will roll out episodes weekly — with just nine episodes — from the premiere on March 4 to the finale on April 15.
While we can’t help with the jonesing for new episodes for those accustomed to the “Daredevil” binge-watch, we can make sure you never miss a new installment when it drops. Here is everything to know about the full “Daredevil: Born Again” episode release schedule.

Netflix’s Daredevil was a very good series that, at times, was great. It was also flawed, but for many fans, the show - which lasted three seasons and spilt over into The Defenders - remains an undisputed classic. The cast and action alone largely made up for any storytelling shortcomings, so following it was never going to be an easy task for Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again. A creative overhaul took place midway through production when executives realised their approach to the revival wasn't working and the result is a show that vastly improves on its predecessor. Now, it stands out as not just the best MCU series but the best comic book TV show ever made.

As Daredevil: Born Again is ready to hit Disney+, here are a few things to remember about the saga’s return!
It’s been a long wait for fans of Daredevil. The Netflix series did a great job adapting the comics of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), the blind lawyer who moonlights as vigilante Daredevil. The show wrapped up its third season in 2018, only for Netflix to cancel it and the other Defenders spin-offs as Disney took more control.
Thankfully, Daredevil is coming back in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. It’s a continuation of the Netflix show, and given that it’s been seven years since the show ended, some may have forgotten how it left off. So, to prepare for the return of Daredevil, here are a few things to remember!

Daredevil: Born Again is a project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has fans pretty excited about what the MCU has to offer. Charlie Cox has expressed his interest to be part of the Avengers rather than joining up with The Defenders like his Netflix days. While this is something that fans would enjoy, it might seem out of character for Daredevil, given that he has refused to join the team once in the comics.

When the original iteration of Marvel Television announced a multi-series partnership with Netflix, it was confirmed that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist would all get their own shows.
Daredevil launched this McU-adjacent street-level corner of the Marvel Universe in 2015 and, two years later, The Defenders was released.
The crossover event was good, not great, but fans remain eager to see these heroes reunite on screen. For Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, the Defenders reuniting somewhere down the line is "inevitable."
"I want to follow the characters and see where they go," the executive shared. "I think the two characters that are most important for Daredevil: Born Again are obviously Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. They live and breath in a world where these other Defenders characters are walking around somewhere, so I think collisions are inevitable."

Jon Favreau's 2008 film "Iron Man" kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a multimedia superhero property that would remain dominant in the pop consciousness for over a decade. Initially, "Iron Man" and Louis Leterrier's own 2008 MCU movie "The Incredible Hulk" (which finally got a sequel of sorts in 2025) were meant to be mere stand-alone superhero sories, only including references to the Avengers as a cute wink to fans. But when Disney purchased the Marvel library in 2009, a grander plan was put in motion, laying out multiple films at once, each one introducing a new character. Eventually, all the superhero characters teamed up in 2012's "The Avengers," which was essentially the cinematic version of a TV season finale. That structure held fast through to "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019, the 22nd film in the franchise, and one that featured many, many superheroes.
While the McU's movies were dominating theaters, Netflix got in on the action as well.

Since WandaVision aired in 2021, Marvel Studios has produced no less than 11 original TV series for Disney+, and while some have been hits, there's a sense that it's all a bit too much. Bob Iger, the CEO of Marvel's parent company Disney, admitted that they had "diluted" the audience's attention with so much content, hinting that they'd be more selective in the future.
The future is here. Deadline reports that Marvel has paused development on three shows: Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. It doesn't mean that these shows will never see the light of day, but as Deadline puts it, the company has "shifted its priorities at the moment."
It sounds like that shift is pretty significant. Back when Marvel Studios started making TV series for Disney+, it handled them more or less like it did movies: it announced a slate, and that's what we eventually got. But now, Deadline...

Could the return of Daredevil lead to a revival of The Defenders? Marvel and Disney seem to think so!
Fans of Disney+ and Marvel are eagerly awaiting the debut of Daredevil: Born Again. The new Disney+ series is a sequel to the Netflix show with Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer whose special abilities allow him to be the costumed crime fighter Daredevil.
The show brings back the rest of the cast, notably Vincent D'onofrio as Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin. It will also have Jon Bernthal reprise his role as Frank Castle, better known as the brutal vigilante the Punisher, who he played in a Netflix spinoff.
With fans happy to see Daredevil back, there's a question if the other Marvel Netflix series could return. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel's head of streaming, television, and animation, Brad Winderbaum, confirmed, "We are very much exploring" that possibility.

Despite the mixed response Captain America: Brave New World has been getting this past week, and persistent rumblings online about so-called 'superhero fatigue', the Marvel Cinematic Universe still has plenty of lovers. And if Marvel Studios' head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum has any say in the matter, then the MCU may also be about to bring back some Defenders, too. Namely, Krysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones‘ Iron Fist, who — alongside Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock — form, well, The Defenders, Hell's Kitchen's Mightiest Heroes.
Ahead of Daredevil: Born Again's release next month, Winderbaum took the time to talk to Entertainment Weekly about the Man With No Fear's MCU journey from humble Netflix origins to prime Disney+ programming. And, when asked if Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, and co's returns might open the door to the other Defenders making a comeback somewhere down the line,...

With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil officially returning in Daredevil: Born Again, fans have been wondering if the rest of The Defenders could also make a comeback. Now, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has provided an update on the potential return of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Winderbaum revealed that Marvel is actively looking into bringing back these fan-favorite characters.
“I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum said. “Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it.”
He elaborated further, explaining the challenges of bringing these characters back into the fold.

As Marvel Studios expands its cinematic universe, characters remanded to the shadows continue to emerge for new adventures. March 4th marks the return of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock for the mature-rated Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, bringing blood and violence to the MCU. While Daredevil is primed and ready for a comeback, other members of The Defenders – Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) – could return for more superhero drama.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, said Marvel is “exploring” options to bring the trio mentioned above back for more hard-hitting action. “I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum told Entertainment Weekly. “Obviously we...

Marvel Studios’ streaming and TV boss Brad Winderbaum revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that bringing back Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist/Danny Rand is something the studio is “very much exploring.” All three actors headlined their own Marvel series on Netflix along with Charlie Cox’s “Daredevil.” The foursome also teamed up in the “The Defenders” series. With Cox’s Daredevil now making the jump to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and headlining his own Disney+ series, fans are hoping the same will be true for his former Netflix co-stars.

When Marvel initially ended their association with the Netflix shows, many felt the Defenders Saga was done for. Things changed for the better after Charlie Cox’s Daredevil was introduced in the MCU, and after a creative overhaul on the small screen, the MCU brought back many favorites, including Karen, Punisher, and Kingpin.

Over the years, Charlie Cox has given breathtaking performances in numerous roles across multiple different themed projects, but his one role that will forever be regarded as perfection at its peak will always be that of Matt Murdock in the Daredevil universe. To say the least, his portrayal was so epic that now fans can’t imagine anyone else as the character but him.

But playing the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, of course, didn’t come easy to him. Rather, in what might be one of the most surprising turn of events, he was originally called to read for a much different character. However, being the genius that he is, Cox put a non-negotiable condition for Netflix before saying yes, resulting in his eventual genius casting as Murdock in the saga.

You have to give it to Matt Murdock — he's one persistent man. He survived being stabbed by a member of the Hand, an entire building falling over him, and worse of all: The fallout of the Netflix and Disney deal. While there was a time when audiences weren't sure whether we'd see more of Daredevil on live-action projects, everything changed the day he made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and helped clear Peter Parker's name. Now, it's time for someone else to return the favor and make an unexpected cameo in Matt Murdock's first stand-alone series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man brings plenty of Marvel characters into the mix, but it almost includes even more. Showrunner Jeff Trammell recently spoke about the show and revealed that one major character swap was considered early on—Jessica Jones instead of Nico Minoru.
Trammell shared that his team initially debated using a younger version of Jessica Jones in Nico’s place. While he didn’t confirm many details, he explained that the creative process involved selecting characters that best fit the story they wanted to tell.
“We knew we were going to do something different,” Trammell said. “For this story, we needed certain characters to fit these roles. And for me, I love Nico. I love Runaways. This is very much like an amalgamation of just characters I love that I would love to interact with Spider-Man.”

Every Marvel fan who worried that a Disney+ "Daredevil" series would never be able to compete with the reams of violence, gore, and sex depicted liberally throughout the Netflix show, fear no more. The trailer recently dropped for Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) crime-fighting vigilante would've seemed to put any such concerns to rest, but we now have it on good authority that not even the family-friendly confines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will tone down the grittiness of our favorite street-level superhero. Thanks to some eagle-eyed observers from the UK who spotted the official rating on Disney+ (via ComicBookMovie), it appears that "Daredevil: Born Again" will actually represent the highest age rating of any Marvel Studios project to date.
"Daredevil: Born Again" has reportedly earned a rating of 18+ in the UK, which means it's intended only for adults and roughly translates to a typical TV-ma/R rating for those of us who reside Stateside.

Daredevil is set to make a return in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, which will release on Disney+ in March 2025. Daredevil had made his debut in the MCU through his 2015 live-action series, which originally released on Netflix and ran for three seasons. Since then, he was a leading character in MCU’s The Defenders series, and has since made supporting appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Similar to his MCU counterpart, the original Marvel comic book character also has a storied history, being one of the many new characters co-created by Stan Lee during his relaunch of Marvel Comics. Read on to learn of the rich history behind “The Man Without Fear.”

Daredevil actor Charlie Cox discusses his experience playing Matt Murdock in the Daredevil show and weighs in on the change between Netflix and Marvel Studios. Charlie Cox has played Daredevil for ten years — four appearances over three years in Netflix's three Daredevil seasons and The Defenders, and three appearances in three years across Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Daredevil: Born Again. While Cox's Daredevil is now an official MCU hero, that possibility looked quite unlikely when Daredevil season 3's ending seemed to be the definitive ending of the character's journey back in 2018.
Speaking about his upcoming MCU series during the Daredevil: Born Again panel at Fan Expo San Francisco 2024, Charlie Cox addresses Daredevil's cancelation by Netflix in late 2018. Cox compares Daredevil's cancelation to a break-up, recalling a "breaking up period" when he processed the news that the show wasn't going to continue. Charlie...

Marvel Comics’ classic showcase series, Marvel Feature, first hit shelves in the 1970s as a testing ground for new characters and ideas. Running for twelve issues starting in 1971, it helped launch The Defenders and Marvel Two-in-One.

Three-time Academy Award-nominee Sigourney Weaver is a true legend of the sci-fi genre, having appeared in the likes of Ghostbusters, Avatar, and the first four Alien movies, which she led as the iconic Ellen Ripley prior to the franchise being revived with Ridley Scott's Prometheus in 2012.

Fans have often wondered if Weaver might ever take a trip to the Galaxy Far, Far Away at some point, and last year, the trades reported that she was in talks for a key role in Lucasfilm's The Mandalorian and Grogu.
During a recent interview with Deadline, Weaver confirmed that she had signed on for the movie.

The first trailer for Daredevil: Born Again has convinced me Marvel is hiding a massive character death in plain sight. The Man Without Fear is back in the first trailer for Daredevil: Born Again! Check out the action coming to Disney+ this March!
Just as the MCU was getting underway, Netflix was branching out with its own shows based on the "street level" heroes of the Marvel Universe. First up was Daredevil, which had already been adapted into a 2002 film starring Ben Affleck.
The show centered on Matt Murdock, blinded as a child by chemicals that also gave him enhanced senses and a "radar sense." He uses those as the masked vigilante Daredevil while also working as a lawyer.
The show was a huge success, which inspired spinoffs of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. That led to all the characters teaming up in The Defenders. Sadly, the entire Netflix line was canceled in 2018 when Disney asserted more control over the characters. They were then removed from Netflix in 2022 to migrate to Disney+.

I would love to see Finn Jones return to the MCU as Danny Rand, who first appeared in Netflix's Iron Fist, but Marvel needs to make him a much stronger hero. Previously known for roles in Game of Thrones and The Sarah Jane Adventures, Finn Jones became known to Marvel fans as Danny Rand in Netflix's Iron Fist series, part of the Defenders Saga. Out of the six shows comprising the Defenders Saga, however, Iron Fist is widely regarded to be the weakest link, which makes me concerned for the Iron Fist's future in the MCU.
In early 2024, Netflix's Defenders Saga was confirmed to be canon to the MCU and integrated into the McU's official timeline on Disney+. This makes me think that Finn Jones' Danny Rand is now an official part of the MCU, though neither Marvel Studios nor Jones himself have revealed whether this is the case.

Although I was shocked to learn that one MCU actor nearly got cast in Chris Evans' role as Captain America, I'm glad they weren't after they brought one of the best villain performances in Marvel's entire franchise instead. Although Chris Evans was far from unknown in 2011 after having starred in Fox's Fantastic Four duology and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, his star power was still relatively minor compared to his current status after having embodied the role of Steve Rogers for eight years. Now, of course, it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role.
Such is the way with Marvel Studios, which has repeatedly proved its proficiency in making the best casting decisions for MCU productions. Now that it is such an insurmountable franchise, plenty of actors have started speaking out about missed opportunities and regrettable rejections. The cast was a highlight, though, with Severance star Adam Scott proving himself a worthy choice to play Ben Parker, the future uncle of the Amazing Spider-Man.

Over the past half-decade, Marvel Studios has attempted to perfect its television arm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It started extremely strong with 2021's WandaVision, which kicked off the franchise's Disney Plus era on an Emmy-nominated high. There have been multiple successes since then, but it hasn't been smooth-sailing for the MCU as a number of the shows have either underperformed or received a mixed response from audiences. But with the likes of Agatha All Along, Loki season 2, and Echo receiving strong responses, things are back on track.
Marvel characters have been headlining TV shows for years before the official MCU shows arrived on our screens. That much was clear from Netflix's shared universe of Marvel heroes, one of whom has now made the jump to the MCU with his own revival series Daredevil: Born Again. The new year promises to bring with it plenty of highly-anticipated TV shows. Among the most anticipated is Daredevil: Born Again, the long-awaited sequel series / revival of Netflix's Daredevil series, which will stream on Disney Plus this March.
Charlie Cox returns in the title role, bringing The Man Without Fear back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after his debut "official" appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Echo. But even though those were his first Marvel Studios appearances, the events of the original Daredevil series have since been retroactively welcomed into the MCU canon, making this upcoming show a sequel.
Marvel has yet to release the full-length trailer for the show, but it has been offering up some snippets and teases of what to expect. Now, some brand new first look images have given us another glimpse of Matt Murdock's return, and this time he's not alone.

The nine episode first season of the Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025 – and while there was once an idea to cherry-pick elements from the Netflix Daredevil show and build something new around them, those plans changed while Daredevil: Born Again was in production. The Netflix series is now canon to the Disney+ show, which evolved into a direct follow-up, picking up five years later. Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Wilson Bethel, and Ayelete Zurer reprise the roles of Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, Murdock’s associates Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter / Bullseye, and Vanessa Marianna Fisk. Jon Bernthal is also back as Frank Castle / The Punisher, who made his debut on the Daredevil series before getting his own Netflix series. There have been rumors that The Punisher might be revived on Disney+ just like...
