Danger, deception, and murder descend upon a sleepy country town when a professional assassin (Anson Mount) accepts a new assignment from his enigmatic mentor and boss (Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins). Given only where and when along with a cryptic clue, the methodical hit man must identify his mysterious mark from among several possible targets, including a local sheriff (David Morse). Meanwhile, a chance encounter with an alluring woman (Abbie Cornish) at the town's rustic diner threatens to derail his mission in this noir-style cloak-and-dagger thriller.

The coded note The Virtuoso receives at the start of the film reads:

"Once there was a worn and withered old man too set in his ways, bound by routine to have the fore-sight to understand that in all his seventy-six years he's always done the same thing, ate the same food, chose the same colors, won the same battles. His life a breathing pentagon: home, work, rest, eat, dream. From age eighteen he'd never questioned his lot. Until, the trinity... and the agony of realization that a life lived can never be re-lived."

Goofs
The Virtuoso spends a large part of the movie explaining his meticulous nature, and spends most of the movie being incredibly cautious. However, when tending to Johnnie's girlfriend, he opens the cap to a peroxide bottle with his mouth, leaving DNA everywhere. He then moves and plugs the space heater in with his bare hands, leaving his prints everywhere, all while holding his gloves instead of wearing them.

The cap of a peroxide bottle is hardly "everywhere" and why should he worry about DNA or prints. In rural, out-of-the-way towns, CSI teams don't turn out for burglaries gone bad.

Watchable but gets worse towards the 3/4

Movie started well, very well actually, enough to keep me interested until the end, but the constant holes on the script and incoherent mistakes for a "Virtuoso" kinda ruined it.

Anson Mount plays the lead role wonderfuly and I keep wondering why this guy is not chosen for more movies (even for the "The Witcher" series he would be on par with "Mr. Superman" on the character).

With such good actors in, It was a surprise to not see Anthony Hopkins playing a more meaningful role on the story.

It was the great beginning and middle that kept me to the end. It was the good acting and noir looks that kept me interested and trying to ignore the obvious mistakes the main character was doing.

All in all, could be much better, but compared to the movie trash that is coming out lately, this is almost a masterpiece - and could have been if more character build-up was in and more plot-holes were out.
