Unlike the original Cosmos series, which was focused purely on science, this one is watered-down and doesn't have a consistent message. A good half of the episodes are spent on animated historical figures who really add nothing to the overall information. Sure, history is important and early scientific pioneers should not be thrown away, but if I wanted to learn more about them I'd read a biography or history book.
There is very little actual science and speculation in this series. It doesn't present any new information or explain anything in a way we haven't already heard 100x over the past few decades.
If you want a good show about the Universe, I'd highly recomend Wonders of the Solar System and Wonders of the Universe by Brian Cox, it's everything that the original Cosmos series was and is arguably even better.
