Led by a warrior named Andy, a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. Greg Rucka wrote the first draft screenplay, but when Charlize Theron came aboard, she had a number of issues with it. These were raised in a conference call with Theron, which Rucka described as "one of the worst experiences of my career." He did another rewrite but was then fired. Theron's production company commissioned a new script from new writers but Netflix hated that version. When Gina Prince-Bythewood came on board, she recommissioned Rucka, who was able to patch up his differences with Theron.

When the female Marine character named Nile has her throat cut the other Marine calls for a Medic, repeatedly. Marines receive medical treatment from Navy hospital corpsmen, but the filmmakers may have used the more recognizable term "medic" because an average viewer may not know this.

Really old

So if you didn't inform yourself (I only found out watching Charlize Theron in talk shows promoting the movie), this is based on a graphic novel series. Which makes sense if you watch it - this having a background before the film was made. Now even so, that doesn't mean this will be free of cliches - quite the opposite is true.

Theron is really good and while as I mentioned you will and should be able to predict what is going to happen (even certain "twists"/betrayals and so forth). But the action is more than rock solid, even without knowing that Theron took her training very seriously! Who else would be driving around with a very real looking prop axe? Exactly! So while I understand that some might be cynical about the whole thing, you are missing out on just having fun with this. It's not the greatest movie ever made, but it doesn't pretend to be either
