Kouwai Gbah, also known by "ZOLA STONE" is a recording artist, actress, model & painter. She was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up an "only child" by her Filipino native mother, Jelyn Potocnik who worked as a computer billing analyst at the time. Zola's father was absent, and she doesn't know much except for the fact that he's from Liberia and was known to be a talented writer. Even though she was an "only child" growing up, she had brothers and sisters who lived with their biological mothers. Zola reunited with her (two) half- sisters and (one) half- brother when she was 17 years old.
When she was 5 years old she lived in the Philippines for 2 years and went to a Catholic "all girls" private school. After graduating at Armstrong High School in Plymouth, Minnesota, she moved to Chicago and signed a modeling contract with BMG Agency. Zola's photographs and visuals became popular online, many celebrities reposted her work and many sites like Tumblr would use her face as their wallpaper. Recording artists and music playlists would also use her photos as their album covers or for YouTube. TV Show "Chicagolicious" asked her to be featured on their show, which she agreed. Shortly after, she was offered to audition for "America's Next Top Model", instead she decided to drive to Los Angeles to focus on her music.
Besides the modeling world, "Zola Stone" also worked towards her acting and music career from the age of 9. She would participate in girl groups, dance, orchestra, choir, talent shows, song writing, school plays, commercials and anything creative she could get her hands on. She studied at the Schmitt Music School in Minnesota and she continues to take classes in Los Angeles for music production, business, acting and dance. She was featured in the New Edition Movie, Josh Hutcherson's Film titled, "APE" and ABC TV show "Secret and Lies" starring Michael Ealy. You may have recognized her on fashion blogs, sites and music videos for; ASAP Rocky, Masego, G-Easy, Kid Ink and more.
Since working on her album in Los Angeles, the upcoming star has gained much respect from her latest single releases; "Guilty Love" and "Go" now available to stream everywhere. She has performed live at The House of Blues and The Mint Venue in LA and plans to tour when her new project is complete. She has worked with many well-known and talented artists, song writers, producers and industry professionals. Zola Stone's musical path has opened new opportunities as movie directors and record labels are keeping a close eye on what she does next.
