Sometimes Tim Waggoner can make up scenes, and sometimes he can’t.
Take his work on Terrifier 2, a novelization of the popular 2022 killer-clown slasher movie. The studio wanted a 100,000-word prose adaptation of a film that was under two and a half hours, necessitating some creative license from the author. “If Art the Clown is running around killing people, I can just have him kill some more people,” says Waggoner of that book, which published this past October. “At one point in the movie, he’s driving a van, so I’m like, ‘Oh, where’d he get his van?’ So I wrote a scene where he got the van.”
But on Waggoner’s first published works for A24 — book adaptations of the X trilogy — the mandate was different: Don’t complicate writer-director Ti West’s creative vision. And so in X (published Sept. 24), Pearl (Nov. 19) and the upcoming...

Few female villains in the history of horror have been so beguiling as Pearl (Mia Goth). We first meet this dancing murderess in the twilight days of her life as she slaughters the cast and crew of a low-budget porno in Ti West’s X. The second film in this feminist trilogy takes us all the way back to Pearl’s own youth when she too was a would-be starlet hoping to make it in Hollywood.
The stylish Pearl explores the limitations placed on women in the early 1900s while giving us the origin story of a vicious predator. Tim Waggoner continues his novelization of West’s trilogy by playing with the motivations and backstories of this doomed cast of characters. Waggoner’s literary adaptation of X allows us to peer into Pearl’s mind, explaining her practice of targeting victims for her own sexual pleasure. His Pearl adaptation provides...

Will Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein Have a Theatrical Run? - Main Image
Netflix has been able to secure some contracts with several creatives over the past few years, but recently the streaming giant has been getting flak for refusing to release their movies theatrically—which loses some potential for profit when it comes to movies.
Hellboy and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro had recently teamed up with Netflix for an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein book, and some have been wondering if this movie is going straight to streaming or going to actually break the usual Netflix mold.

It's alive!
Following some recent set photos, Vanity Fair has shared the first official still from Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Netflix adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which the filmmaker has been trying to get made for a long time.
The image is not very revealing, and keeps the Jacob Elordi's Monster (assuming that is who's lying on the table) mostly under wraps as brilliant scientist Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) faces the window.
Click the link below to get a better look at the image, along with a number of other promo stills from various 2025 releases.

Guillermo del Toro is adapting Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein for Netflix, and with production now wrapped, Vanity Fair has shared a first look photo from the set.
“Gothic romance was born partially out of the fascination with ruins,” del Toro tells Vanity Fair in the 2025 preview piece that ran this morning. “Sometimes they’re more beautiful than the building complete because it’s the clash of creation and destruction.”
Check out your very first look at Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein below, which takes you inside Dr. Frankenstein’s lab – a place of creation and destruction, to say the very least.
And please note that the below photo is a behind the scenes shot from the film’s set.

In an article called “Meet the Movies of 2025,” Vanity Fair has just unveiled a batch of images that go behind the scenes of several upcoming films – including genre movies like the sci-fi thriller sequel M3GAN 2.0, the Jordan Peele-produced sports horror film Him, director Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge (that’s an image from The Gorge above), and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Let’s take a look at them:
From M3GAN 2.0, we see an image of the killer doll M3GAN, reunited with returning M3GAN star Violet McGraw. Allison Williams is also back for the sequel, as are Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps. This time, they’re joined in the cast by Ivanna Sakhno (Ahsoka), who is said to have landed a major part in the sequel, Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows), Timm Sharp (Blunt Talk), and Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live). Nothing hits quite like a horror movie novelization. Popularized before the advent of home video, this unique art form turns our favorite scary movies into pocket-sized page-turners. While it’s thrilling to experience these terrifying tales in another format, the real treat is learning more about each story. Novelizations offer intimate access to complex characters and internal thoughts that can’t be revealed through action or dialogue. After peaking in the ’70s, it now seems that the horror novelization is making a comeback. Earlier this year, A24 announced plans to release novelizations of the X trilogy, a feminist horror series exploring the connection between sex and death. Directed by Ti West, the multigenerational saga follows two ambitious women determined to succeed under the bright lights of Hollywood. Born into wildly different eras, their stories reveal hidden truths about power, objectification, and female sexuality.

With a slew of excellent, critically acclaimed horror films in 2024, could awards bodies finally give them more consideration? A few thoughts.
Toni Collette in Hereditary. Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Elisabeth Moss in The Invisible Man. Mia Goth in Pearl. Christian Bale in American Psycho. Florence Pugh in Midsommar.
Horror films have long produced some fine, memorable performances, but they rarely tend to break through into the awards conversation. Or even if they’re talked about, they’re usually doomed to receive no love from the awards bodies themselves.
Why? Great question, and one that probably doesn’t have a simple answer. In general, horror films have been seen as trashy, low-brow forms of entertainment despite their long history of tackling social issues amid all the blood and guts. It’s only recently, with the rise of so-called “elevated horror” – anyone else hate that term? – that the genre’s reputation has started to slowly change.

Blade might be off the theatrical calendar, but Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige has exclaimed that the studio is “committed” to the project.
The reboot of the Wesley Snipes franchise was announced at Comic-Con 2019 with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the title role. However, there was a rotation of directors in Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange with a script that didn’t pass muster per Marvel. Mia Goth was also attached to play supervillian Lilith in the vampire slayer feature.
Feige’s statements were made in recently to the Brazilian entertainment website Omelete.
“We love the character, we love Mahershala’s version of him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re up to date on what’s going on. But I can tell you that...

Marvel announced five years ago, at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, they were inviting Blade into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new reboot. Five years later, well, Marvel’s planned Blade MCU movie has still yet to even find its way in front of the cameras.
It’s no secret that the brand new Blade movie has been bumped all over the release calendar the last few years, and it’s currently without a date at all after getting pulled from its theatrical release date of November 7, 2025. Not helping is that the movie is without a director at the moment, with Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) departing the project in the wake of Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) exiting the film back in 2022.
Studio President Kevin Feige reassured fans this weekend at the D23 Brazil 2024 event that Marvel is still planning to reboot Blade with star Mahershala Ali and bring the character into the MCU.

Marvel’s highly anticipated Blade reboot, starring Mahershala Ali, has faced several setbacks, but Kevin Feige, head of the MCU, reassured fans that the project is still moving forward.
Despite delays and changes in the director’s chair, Feige is committed to bringing this iconic character back to the big screen.
“We’re committed to Blade. We love the character and Mahershala’s vision of him. Rest assured, we always update our audience when we shift directions or are figuring out how a project fits into our schedule,” Feige explained.
First announced in 2019, Blade has faced numerous delays and was even removed from Marvel’s release calendar at one point.
The project has undergone significant changes, including multiple script rewrites and shifts in key production staff. The film lost its director, Yann Demange, due to creative differences with star Mahershala Ali, marking the second time the film has been without a director.

Marvel fans have been waiting a long time for any updates on Blade, the iconic vampire-slaying, katana-wielding antihero who carved his place in pop culture with Wesley Snipes’ unforgettable portrayal in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Blade didn’t just introduce audiences to a lesser-known Marvel character; it set a darker, edgier tone that stood apart in the superhero world and paved the way for more mature comic book films.

Marvel’s troubled Blade movie has been pulled from the release calendar and is now said to be once again be going back to the start with a new script.
Although there are signs that Marvel Studios has arrested at least some of the rot that has plagued its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the last few years, its ongoing attempt to get a Blade movie off the ground is a continuing (and very public) indicator of the studio’s continuing creative struggles.
When you consider that at the dawn of the MCU, much of the script for 2008’s Iron Man was changed on the fly, giving the film a natural charm and energy, we’re now very much at the other end of the spectrum with Marvel movies often feeling overwritten and formulaic.

Last December, the folks at Cosmic Circus dropped the rumor that a team of supernatural characters known as the Midnight Sons might be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe… and now, industry scooper Daniel Richtman has revealed that sources indicate Marvel might be putting a Midnight Sons movie on the fast track to production! According to Richtman, Marvel is currently looking to get a director attached to the project.

Marvel just made yet another big change to its slate. Is dropping Blade a bad sign?
2023 saw the once-invincible MCU finally hit an overdue road block. First, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania disappointed at the box office. Then, Jonathan Majors, who was set to become the new big bad of the franchise as Kang, was arrested on assault charges and soon fired. Then, the 2023 Hollywood strikes curtailed production while The Marvels flopped.
While Deadpool & Wolverine has been a hit and Agatha All Along won wide praise and viewership, much of the rest of the Marvel lineup has been delayed until 2025. That included what was going to be a top contender for fans, Blade.
The original 1998 Blade was the first true Marvel hit movie. It adapted the cult character of a half-vampire hunting other vampires with Wesley Snipes in the title role. Thanks to a good script, great direction and Snipes’ performance,...

Marvel Studios has successfully recovered from its consistent underperformances in 2023. Yes, after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels both struggled at the box office (and Secret Invasion struggled with Disney Plus audiences on TV), the franchise bounced back this year with box office sensation Deadpool and Wolverine and acclaimed Disney Plus fan-favorite Agatha All Along.
But those unexpected underperformers still happened, so Marvel had to make some adjustments to prevent that from happening again. That reportedly involved moving away from potentially risk-taking ideas and moving towards surefire success stories. Though Deadpool and Wolverine was already well into post-production at that stage, its release was the perfect example of that as fans had been waiting for Deadpool, Wolverine, and the world of the X-Men to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the box-office takings of that movie highlight that.

Marvel first announced that it was making a new movie about Blade, the half-vampire vampire hunter played by Wesley Snipes in a trilogy of movies released between 1998 and 2004, in 2019, when it was still flinging spaghetti against the wall and hoping enough stuck to make people happy. Five years later, Blade has become a poster child for the discombobulation of our current Marvel era. It's been delayed multiple times and cycled through a number of directors, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali is still attached as the title character and Mia Goth is playing the supervillain Lilith, but at this rate who knows if we'll actually ever see them onscreen?
That question is coming up again now that Disney has bumped Blade from its latest release date of November 7, 2025, according to Deadline. The movie isn't on the studio's schedule at all anymore, although Disney has secured three new...

Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot to star Mahershala Ali has been removed the calendar and its November 7 2025 release date is now occupied by Twentieth Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands.
Disney also scheduled three untitled Marvel tentpoles for 2028 and will release them on February 18, May 5, and November 10.
Blade has had a tumultuous ride of late. The vampire action thriller had been in pre-production in the first half of 2023 when it became the first film to be impacted by last year’s Hollywood strikes.

It was during San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 that Marvel announced two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali would play the superhero Blade in a new Marvel film set to arrive in theaters potentially as soon as late 2021 or early 2022.
Now five years later, Ali’s stab at Blade remains unmade. On Tuesday, Disney quietly announced that it had pulled the Marvel film from its scheduled release date of November 7, 2025. No new date has been publicly announced.
Progress on “Blade” has been slow and unsteady. Since the announcement in 2019, the project has cycled through two directors – Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange – and several writers. Ali was originally supposed to star alongside Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo in the film but both actors have since departed the project. Mia Goth was still attached, however, when she was doing press for “Maxxxine” this past summer.
“They really care, they do. They want to make a great movie.

When Wesley Snipes' iconic Daywalker quipped, "There's been only one Blade! There's only ever gonna be one Blade!" in Marvel's mutant mash-up Deadpool & Wolverine this summer, it was hard to know whether to laugh or wince. After all, Marvel Studios has been trying — and struggling — to get their own Blade movie off the ground ever since announcing Mahershala Ali would be the McU's vampire hunter in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con way back in 2019. And now, following the departures of both director Bassam Tariq and his successor Yann Demange, it's starting to look like Snipes' zinger may well have heralded the final nail being driven into Blade's coffin.
Per Deadline's reporting, Marvel's Blade has lost its already pretty ambitious 7 November, 2025 release slot to Dan Trachtenberg's Predator: Badlands. And whilst this news doesn't come with any formal cancellation announcement for the movie, which was set to see...

We finally saw Blade appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film — it just wasn’t the Blade played by Mahershala Ali. The first appearance of Blade in the MCU came in “Deadpool & Wolverine” with Wesley Snipes reprising his iconic role.
And now Ali’s “Blade” has been delayed yet again, pulled from Disney’s 2025 release slate entirely. What a disaster.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige first announced a “Blade” reboot back in 2019 with Ali attached to star, and the character was even teased in the post-credits of 2021’s “Eternals,” a would-be franchise that now seems forgotten.
“Blade” has been through many starts and stops, with several writers and directors filtering through and with delays because of the writers strike and more. Through it all, the franchise’s original stars Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff haven’t refrained from talking about it.
“It’s not the actor’s fault,” Snipes said of Ali.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade has had a long, rough ride through the development process, and as of right now it doesn’t even have a director attached. So there probably weren’t many Marvel fans who were expecting the movie to stick with its November 7, 2025 release date – and therefore, few will be surprised or disappointed to hear that Blade has indeed been bumped out of 2025. Deadline reports that Disney will be releasing 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands on November 7, 2025 instead of Marvel’s vampire slayer movie.

Marvel’s “Blade” has been delayed yet again. Disney has removed the plagued superhero-vampire movie starring Mahershala Ali from its 2025 release slate entirely.
The prior update had “Blade” due to open on November 7, 2025, but that won’t happen anymore. Instead, we’ll be getting the next movie in the Predator franchise, “Predator: Badlands,” on that date.
For now, “Blade” isn’t on the Disney release schedule at all. But Marvel did put three new generic placeholder dates — February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028 — on its release calendar on Tuesday.
This “Blade” has been a real thorn in the side of the generally reliable Marvel and Kevin Feige. Feige recently said they’ve been spending the last few years “trying to crack that movie,” and that the important thing now is “not rushing it.”

Marvel‘s Blade has been taken off of the 2025 release schedule.
The film was supposed to be released on November 7, 2025, however, the studio removed the film and will now be releasing Elle Fanning‘s Predator: Badlands on that date instead.
Keep reading to find out more…
About the delay, Deadline reports that, “The studio won’t make the movie until they’ve cracked a great script.” They also said that for Marvel exec Kevin Feige, “It’s important to make the best Blade movie ever.”
Blade has had numerous issues in pre-production.
The film’s first director, Bassam Tariq, exited the movie two months before it was supposed to enter production in late 2022.
The director who replaced Bassam, Yann Demange, exited the movie earlier this year.

In what comes as no surprise, Marvel Studios’ Blade won’t be coming out on Nov. 7, 2025, rather Disney is opening 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands.
The reboot of the famed Wesley Snipes Marvel movie was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 with 2x Oscar winner Mahershala Ali starring. Production and development on Blade hit unavoidable delays with a global pandemic and dual industry strikes.
The project saw two directors exit, first Bassam Tariq, who was eyeing a fall 2022 start, then Yann Demange. Mia Goth is set to play supervillian Lilith in the vampire slayer movie. She told Deadline’s Natalie Sitek at the world premiere of her A24 movie MaXXXine, that in regards to the Blade delays, Marvel “really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.”

Mia Goth is a rising star who has captured the attention of film lovers with her eccentric characters and captivating performances. Essentially a scream queen, her brilliant portrayal and roles showcase the depth and intensity she harbors as an actor.
But beyond her on-screen talent and her unique blend of grace and intensity, there lies more than what meets the eye. Not only does she have a fascinating family ancestry that spans several cultures and parts of the world, but the actress is also multilingual and can speak over three languages pretty fluently.

Her ability to switch between languages not only showcases her versatility as an actress but also hints at the intriguing, multicultural background she hails from. Containing British, Brazilian, and Canadian influence, Mia Goth’s ancestry makes her even more dynamic and adds a charm to her silver screen presence.

Mia Goth’s eyebrows, interestingly, have been one of the things people talk about, and many question her unique look. The first thing one can notice in Goth is her striking light blonde hair, coupled with her fair complexion. Her noticeably light eyebrows seem to blend into her skin almost completely. This makes her look stand out among her contemporaries, almost otherworldly. The mystery of her brows has made a lot of fans curious as it has become part of her identity.

Fans have often questioned if her light eyebrows are a style choice. After all, Goth plays strange and eerie roles in films like “Pearl” and “X,” where her looks might find a perfect fit with the characters she is playing. Some even think that her faint eyebrows are a clever way to embellish her acting roles, making her look hauntingly unusual. However, Goth...

Smile 2 star Naomi Scott has added her name to the growing list of recent genre performances that deserve(d) awards consideration. From James McAvoy (Split) and Toni Collette (Hereditary) to Lupita Nyong’o (Us) and Mia Goth (Pearl), Scott is the latest example of an actor whose committed work in a highly difficult role shouldn’t be overlooked just because of the genre in which it resides. It’s well past time to have more than a half-dozen exceptions who managed to take home Oscar statuettes via the horror genre, such as Ruth Gordon (Rosemary’s Baby), Kathy Bates (Misery) and Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs).
In Parker Finn’s sequel to his 2022 smash hit, Scott plays Skye Riley, a troubled pop star who’s attempting to mount a comeback after surviving a car accident that took the life of her equally famous boyfriend, Paul Hudson (Ray Nicholson). Skye’s return...

Our top pick this week, “Woman of the Hour,” is the directorial debut of Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick. Kendrick stars in this Netflix true-crime thriller as Cheryl Bradshaw, a woman who had a terrifying encounter with serial killer Rodney Alcala, whom she met when they both appeared on the game show “The Dating Game” in 1978. Daniel Zovatto, best known for appearing in horror movies like “It Follows” and “Don’t Breathe,” plays Alcala, with Tony Hale playing the host, who’s based on Jim Lange.
Kendrick is one of the few people to be nominated for the Triple Crown of Acting without winning in any category. She might get there someday, especially if she keeps making movies like this, a tense and thoughtful thriller with a 91% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Dancing With the Stars Season 33 has been firing on all cylinders since it launched on ABC last month.
Like most seasons, the judges’ critiques have been called out several times, and fans were less than impressed by what was said about Chandler Kinney and pro dancer Brandon Armstrong during Tuesday’s installment.
Chandler and Brandon have been early frontrunners since the season debuted, with many fans declaring them the season’s winners after their first performance.
Their latest performance netted them a score of 32 out of 40, which didn’t sit well with the show’s fans, who believed Chandler was unfairly criticized for certain aspects of her routine.
The problem for viewers is that Chandler and Brandon landed in the bottom three, alongside fellow couples Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko and Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach.

It’s spooky-season which means it’s time for chilly weather, falling leaves and, of course, horror movies. We’re celebrating the genre by honoring those that make it so special with a countdown of the greatest scream queens working today.
7. Anya Taylor-Joy Robert Eggers hates his debut film The Witch starring Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor-Joy took over the high-octane, adrenaline-fueled world of Mad Max with this year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but its her work in the terrifying world of horror that gets her on this list. Starting with Robert Eggers The Witch, the talented young actress went on to showcase her skillset in the genre through a wide range of films while working with some of the most talented filmmakers in the business. Split, Last Night in Soho and The Menu are prime examples of what makes Anya Taylor-Joy a true scream queen.

It feels like we have a steady stream of scream queens right now, with the likes of Mia Goth, Samara Weaving and Melissa Barrera all eligible for a crown. But we don’t have many going for the scream king title. Really, the biggest name that comes to mind is Finn Wolfhard, but even he isn’t sure he’s deserving.
When People asked him about the so-called “scream king” designation, Finn Wolfward replied, “That’s such a huge compliment….I’ve never heard that before. You’re the first to say it, but that’s really nice. I’m not sure. I don’t know if I’ve done enough horror movies yet.” This coming from the guy who seems to have made a pretty good living so far in plenty of horror and sci-fi fare, including the It movies, the most recent Ghostbusters entries and Floria Sigismondi’s The Turning.

As we’re well into October, I’m sure plenty of you have already watched more than a few horror movies (as if you need an excuse), but it’s always fun to see what other folks recommend for the spooky season. Kevin Bacon, who I believe has appeared in a few horror movies, took to Instagram to share a list of twenty of his personal favourites.
Audition Don’t Look Now One Cut of the Dead Dawn of the Dead (1978) Shaun of the Dead 28 Days Later Get Out A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night Let The Right One In X Pearl MaXXXine The Witch The Love Witch The Blair Witch Project The Descent Slither Midsommar Martyrs Hereditary Smile Stir of Echoes
A quality list, and as you can see, Bacon appears in a few of them. Bacon’s most recent horror movie was MaXXXine, which appears on the list alongside X and Pearl.

This week on the Nightmare on Film Street horror movie podcast, Kimmi and Jon are taking a dip into the sun-soaked nightmare of Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool (2023). What starts as a luxurious vacation for James Foster (Alexander Skarsgård) quickly unravels into a dark, unsettling world where crime comes without the usual consequences—because if you can afford it, someone else will pay the price for you. Literally.
After a freak accident, James is introduced to a disturbing practice involving clones, where the wealthy can sidestep responsibility in truly horrifying ways. The deeper James goes, the more he’s drawn into a twisted world of excess, indulgence, and blood-soaked thrills that blur the line between punishment and pleasure (all shepherded by an unhinged Mia Goth).
Is Infinity Pool a sharp critique of the privilege money brings, or just an invitation to lose yourself in Cronenbergian chaos? Tune in as Kimmi...

Update: Jeymes Samuel has released a statement denying the World of Reel’s Blade report. Samuel wrote, “I don’t know where these rumors start, but I am not in talks to do Blade with Marvel. I love me the Daywalker tho, I cannot wait to watch that joint. Sidebar: When Blade 2 came out I prayed they would make: ‘Wesley Snipes/Christopher Lee – Blade III.’ It didn’t happen sadly.“

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein has finally wrapped production after nine months of filming. It’s not often these days that we see film productions run so long – the 100 day club of film shoots has been quiet – but then again, we all know what a master craftsman del Toro is.
The Pan’s Labyrinth filmmaker took to social media to announce the end of shooting, simply stating: “Shooting has been completed on “F” — Joy!!!”
Netflix is backing the project for which del Toro has assembled some heavyweight talent: Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth and Charles Dance all star in del Toro’s take on Mary Shelley’s legendary horror tale, widely considered to also be the first ever science fiction story.
