Gen Parton-Shin
- Actor
Not your typical 3rd culture kid (his parents weren't diplomats), Gen spent his childhood growing up in cities such as London, Kobe, Seoul, Tokyo, Philadelphia, and New York, in that order. It led to a mishmash of accents growing up. which at one point was the cause of an identity crisis, but he is now able to put it to good use thanks to that acting thing he does.
Gen debuted as Angel in the official Japanese cast of RENT in 2008. Only then he realized (yikes) that if he wanted to do this as a career, he needed formal training. Hence, skipping his college graduation ceremony, he dived into the One-Year Conservatory program at the T. Schreiber Studio, NY, and completed the curriculum on a tourist visa (You're not supposed to do that? Oops). He took more classes with many teachers and casting directors, but notably he has also studied under Bob Krakower in the Advanced On-Camera class, and currently studies improv at Faceoff Unlimited.
While pursuing his dream in the US, he furthered his career by starring in lead roles in Japan's official Broadway productions of next to normal (Gabe), Dracula (Jonathan), Bare (Jason), Rocky Horror Show (Rocky), to name a few.
As you might have guessed, Gen loves musicals, and also loves Japan. So much so that he co-founded a company called Broadway in Japan, which introduces Broadway musical theatre faculty to Japanese aspiring musical theatre performers, offering invaluable education opportunities in Japan. Ever expanding, Gen was able to produce 4 shows via BIJ, including Broadway actor Telly Leung's first solo show in Japan, as well as the first concert version of The Last Five Years which Gen also performed in.
Gen is represented by agents The Mine (legit) and Innovative Artists (commercial), as well as manager Josselyne Herman-Saccio.
Gen also hosts a weekly American cable TV show called TV JAPAN CLUB, as well as the sold-out improv comedy show BATSU!, performing weekly in the heart of Astor Place, NYC.
