The “Has Fallen” action franchise is expanding from movies to television with the new series “Paris Has Fallen.” Streaming service Hulu has acquired the rights to distribute the show in the United States later this year.

The series is produced by StudioCanal along with production companies Urban Myth Films, Millennium Media, G-Base, and Eclectic Pictures. It stars Tewfik Jallab as Vincent Taleb, a French protection officer tasked with guarding a government minister who becomes a terrorist target. Ritu Arya co-stars as Zara, a MI6 operative who helps Taleb investigate a conspiracy that may involve one of their own colleagues.

“Paris Has Fallen” launched earlier this year on Canal+, a French cable network. It has found success internationally as well, with Amazon Prime Video securing rights for viewers in the UK and Ireland. Australia’s Sbs will distribute the program, and German station Zdf, a co-producer of the series, will provide it domestically.

Exclusive: Here’s an eye-catching deal to kick off Cannes: Hulu has taken U.S. rights to Paris Has Fallen, the StudioCanal series based on Gerard Butler‘s Has Fallen film franchise.

Hulu plans to premiere the drama, which stars Spiral actor Tewfik Jallab, later this year after it made a strong debut in France, where it has become a top-three original on Canal+.

StudioCanal has closed a string of other deals for Paris Has Fallen, including with Amazon Prime Video in the UK and Ireland, and Sbs in Australia. The eight-part series is a co-production with Zdf, which will house the show in Germany.

In the final season of Netflix’s quirky superhero drama, fans saw the relationship between Castañeda’s Diego Hargreeves and Ritu Arya’s Lila fade into a morose, passionless marriage that eventually led to romance between Lila and Diego’s brother, Number Five, played by Aidan Gallagher. “The Umbrella Academy” just signed off with its fourth and final season, and the Netflix series brought it all to an end with a happy reunion — of sorts. The series ends with a singular, happier timeline created thanks to the Hargreeves siblings’ sacrifice – and it’s full of familiar faces.

After the siblings realize that the marigold giving them their powers is also what’s causing the world to end repeatedly, they agree to let The Cleanse erase them from ever existing. This results in one unified, seemingly much better timeline.

The show ends with a pan around a park where we see a number of familiar faces from the series’ run; all living much better, safer lives. Showrunner Steve Blackman told TheWrap it was a lot of phone calls, but he ended up getting almost everyone he wanted for the scene.

However, things get weird pretty quickly when they get stuck between alternate timelines for seven years.

The opening of the third episode of season 4 shows us a news broadcast, where two fishermen have caught a huge squid. As they talk to an interviewer about their catch, they realize there's something inside of it trying to get out. When they cut open the squid, they're all completely shocked to find a little girl inside. When they ask her if she knows what's happened, all she says is: "The Cleanse." Creepy! A quick shot of Reginald is seen in the background.

Luther wakes up, feeling incredibly hungover, and when he goes to work his boss suspects he's on drugs. He begins a performance and realizes he somehow has impressive strength, dancing with women in the audience and picking them up. His powers are coming back, of course, but he doesn't realize it yet. Diego delivers packages and is also amused by his strength, finding the ability to throw mail into mailboxes perfectly without having to get out of the truck. Five accidentally blinks (a.k.a. teleports) and takes a sick day from the CIA office, unsure of what's going on.

For the Hargreeves siblings, the end of the world is getting a little old hat. After all, they’ve thwarted an impending apocalypse every season since “The Umbrella Academy” premiered on Netflix in 2019 (nevermind that they’ve also inadvertently caused all of them), so it makes sense that after sidestepping the kugelblitz at the end of Season 3, they’d be ready for a break.

That’s where we meet them at the beginning of Season 4, which picks up six years after we last saw the dysfunctional family stumble into a new reality where none of them had superpowers. For some, such as Viktor (Elliot Page) and Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), getting to live life as regular humans was a relief. For others, who defined themselves by their superhuman abilities, “normal” life presented a unique challenge, and they struggled to adapt. But after six years, they’ve all settled into their new,...

Coming out of the boom of superhero movies and television, The Umbrella Academy proved Netflix could hit a different tone. Often irreverent and always emotional, the Gerard Way-penned adaptation thrived as a critique of the X-Men. Simultaneously, showrunner Steve Blackman ensured the same concerns of sex, drugs, and teenage angst carried over from the comics to the small screen. With Season 4 serving as its final season, The Umbrella Academy continues its antiques, but a rushed finale leaves us wanting a little more.
