Roy was born December 6, 1965 in Landstuhl, Germany to parents Roy Gene Coulter and Doris Heidemarie Ingeborg Waske. His father was a career serving Air Force veteran when he met his mother during his tour of duty in Germany. Roy primarily grew up all over the United States while his father continued to serve until his retirement in 1983. Growing up, Roy was an active child who always participated in team sports and activities such as Air Force JROTC, Drama Club and Scouting. He earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1982 at the age of 16, and served as Cadet Commander during his senior year. Roy attended three different high schools before settling down and graduating in 1984 from Rossville HS in Rossville, Georgia.
After graduation, Roy enlisted with the Tennessee Air National Guard with a Nashville unit. When not drilling with his unit, Roy enrolled with a junior college, taking classes in the evening and working as a roofer during the day. He did this for about a year when he realized his passion for active duty service was stronger than a part time commitment. In 1986, Roy went on active duty with the Air Force serving in the position as Security Police/Forces. He would eventually complete 20 years of active duty service; obtaining the rank of E-7 Master Sergeant, and retired in 2006 with total of 21 years combined service.
In 2006, Roy attended an open casting call for the part of a football referee in the feature film We Are Marshall (2006) but was chosen to play the role of a National Guard troop at the aircraft accident scene. From there, Roy would go on to make his television debut playing the role as a football referee in USA Networks, Necessary Roughness in 2012; Season 2, Episodes 12 and 16. He played the role again as a football official in The Game (BET) for Season 9 Episode 10 in 2015. Roy appeared in Season 1 of the new television series Atlanta on FX as a gun store shopper and a basketball referee. Roy had his first recurring role as a Secret Service Agent on Tyler Perry's production of The Haves and Have Nots in Season 5, and in Season 7 and 8 of AMCs The Walking Dead as a Kingdom Guard. In 2018, Roy played a detective in the TV series documentary Your Worst Nightmare. Roy appeared in other television shows such as The Originals, 24:Legacy, and MacGyver.
Roy returned to the silver screen as a bar patron in the Beech Hill Films production of One Last Thing (2017) and as an FBI Agent for Endurance Media production of Mark Felt; The Man Who Brought Down the White House (2017). Roy also played the role as one of Hobb's guards in the blockbuster franchise The Fate of the Furious (2017). Other feature film projects that Roy appeared in are Superstition: The Rule of 3's, Love, Simon; Logan Lucky, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Roy is heavily involved with several independent feature movies, web series, music videos, and theatrical plays.
Roy is dedicated and committed to all his roles by displaying enthusiasm and being appreciative of all the opportunities afforded him as an actor. When not acting, you can find him on the football field as one of the officials. A long time hobby of 30 plus years! He is married and has 6 children; 4 grown and 2 younger children living at home. He has 3 grandchildren.
