He was able to gain recognition on his own merit, outside of his father’s work, as he appeared in films like Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood, Ali with Will Smith, as well as cult classics like Gunmen which co-stars Christopher Lambert. He would work with him again in Lambert’s franchise sequel, Highlander: The Final Dimension. If Sergio Leone had ever signed on to make one of those ‘70s Blaxploitation oaters that once provided steady employment for Fred Williamson, it likely would have looked and sounded much like “Outlaw Posse,” a wildly uneven but cumulatively entertaining shoot-‘em-up that finds Mario Van Peebles doing triple duty as director, screenwriter and star. Quadruple duty, actually, if you count his credit as an executive producer.

“Outlaw Posse” has nothing to do with Van Peebles’ previous entry in this genre, 1993’s wild and woolly “Posse,” which suggests the multitasking filmmaker is tipping his Stetson to the multitude of ‘60s Spaghetti Westerns that, ahem, borrowed titles and eponymous characters from better known yet totally unrelated horse operas. But, then again, maybe not. Indeed, the film will probably be enjoyed most by folks not given to undue consideration of such trifling matters as lineage, logic and arrant anachronisms.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired the global rights to Isaac H. Eaton’s 2023 crime thriller “Welcome to Redville” starring Jake Manley, Highdee Kuan and Chris Elliott. Gravitas, The Anthem Sports & Entertainment Company, has set the film’s VOD release for August 29.

“Welcome to Redville” tells the story of a robbery-gone-wrong and the couple forced on the run in a small desert town called Redville. As drama and death ensues, couple Leo (Manley) and Toni (Kuan) discover that Redville and its strange townspeople are hard —if not impossible — to shake off.

Telluride Film Festival has unveiled the poster for its 50th anniversary.

The upcoming Asian American feature film “Chopin,” starring Eddie Liu and Violett Beane, officially wrapped a 25-day shoot on June 4. Announced last year, the film is now in post-production and scheduled for an early 2024 premiere.

The film is the feature directorial debut of Vincent Lin, a successful commercials director and co-founder of Valiant Pictures. The film, written by Lin, also stars Golden Horse Film Award winner Leon Dai and Taiwanese legend Wu Min (“The Queen!”).

It tells the story of Chopin Wu (Liu), who returns home to small-town America where he grew up, to amend an estranged relationship with his workaholic father (Dai). Prime Video’s new horror/satire/workplace comedy-drama The Consultant is based on the novel of the same name by Bentley Little. The cast of Netflix's The Order is speaking out following its recent cancellation.

Series creator Dennis Heaton announced that the streamer had pulled the plug after two seasons late last week, saying he "was honored to work with an incredible cast and crew."

"It is one of the best experiences of my career," he wrote.

Scary news for fans of The Order TV series. Netflix has cancelled the campy horror drama series so there won't be a third season. Series creator Dennis Heaton broke the news on Twitter.

Horror drama series “The Order” will not be returning to Netflix for a third season, the streamer confirmed to Variety.

Dennis Heaton, the creator, writer and executive producer of the series, made the announcement via Twitter on Friday night. “For two seasons I was honored to work with an incredible cast and crew on The Order for @Netflix,” Heaton wrote. “It was one of the best experiences of my career. Unfortunately, we aren’t returning, but I will always cherish the memories and the props I stole. Thank you all for watching.”

Heaton also teased for fans what could’ve happened in Season 3.

The Order, from Canadian production company Nomadic Pictures, starred Jake Manley as Jack and Sarah Grey as Alyssa.

The supernatural drama series has been canceled after two seasons, according to its creator, Dennis Heaton.

Heaton broke the news in a series of Tweets.

"For two seasons I was honored to work with an incredible cast and crew on The Order for @netflix," he wrote.

"It is one of the best experiences of my career. Unfortunately, we aren't returning, but I will always cherish the memories and the props I stole. Thank you all for watching."

He then offered up some spoilers about what would have happened in the third season.

This year’s virtual Comic-Con@Home has announced its schedule for Saturday, July 25. The highlights are below.

The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.

In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.

The Comic-Con@Home schedule — including Wednesday, July 22, Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24 — is being announced daily through Sunday.

A wannabe Bonnie and Clyde for the social-media age team up to find fame as travelling armed robbers in this patchy romp

The performances are a couple of drawers down from the top in this Nouveau Bonnie and Clyde romp; it features Bella Thorne – from the recent teen-abstinence weepie Midnight Sun – in glassy-eyed Insta princess mode. She’s playing Arielle, a bored pouty badass in Florida, longing to get away from all the local losers and find fame and fortune.

Arielle hooks up with smouldering hottie Dean (Jake Manley) who’s out on parole for armed robbery and together they take off across country on a crime spree, holding up gas stations – escapades that Arielle videos and posts online: she is electrified to see how she and Dean are blowing up on social media.

Netflix released season two of The Order on June 18, and, much like the first season, it is full of the ridiculous antics of Jack Morton (Jake Manley), the Knights of St. Christopher, and the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose. However, even a season with a magic war, werewolves, and demons couldn't top the outlandish cameos of Beverly Hills, 90210's own Jason Priestley and Ian Ziering in episode eight. In the first season, one of the running jokes is just how many famous people, including Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, are members of the Order, but we never thought we'd actually meet a few of them.

In the episode, the pair play fictionalized versions of themselves that don't exactly see eye-to-eye. In fact, Ian calls Jason "Mr. I'm-famous-in-Canada" after Jason comments that the other couldn't even save his career with magic - although six Sharknado movies say otherwise.

To celebrate the release of Infamous, the new thriller starring Bella Thorne and Jake Manley, we sat down with some of the cast and crew to chat about it.

Written and directed by Joshua Caldwell (Be Somebody), Infamous tells the story of a criminal couple from a small Florida town (Thorne and Manley), who after a series of armed robberies, become infamous social media stars. On the run from the authorities, they continue their notorious exploits across the Southland, increasing in both violence and disorder to pursue social media fame, no matter the cost.

Chatting to Manley, Caldwell, and cinematographer Eve Cohen, we chatted to them about the film’s riff on classics like Bonnie and Clyde, the dangers of social media, and whether the experience of the film has changed their opinions and approach to all things Insta-famous.

Last year’s first season saw student Jack Morton (Jake Manley), on a mission to avenge the death of his mother, join the mysterious society and uncover a murky world of magic and monsters, as well as discovering some dark secrets about his own family.

In season 2, The Knights struggle to regain their memories stolen from them by The Order… and they crave retribution. But vengeance is hard to plan when you’re also fighting murderous magicians, strange new cults, and life-threatening demons. Does anyone even go to class anymore?

The news that The Order season 2 was assured on Netflix was almost certainly welcome for those viewers who were wondering what would happen to the Knights of St. Christopher werewolves after the events of the season finale. Fortunately, the show returns this summer, and lead actors Sarah Grey and Jake Manley are on board for the new season.

The Order may have snuck under people’s radar, but enough people tuned in to the series about a secret magical society hidden on a college campus for Netflix to keep the story going. The show comes from co-creators Dennis Heaton (Ghost Wars) and Shelley Eriksen (Continuum) and Nomadic Pictures, which also produces the hit vampire series Van Helsing for Syfy. Adding the element of justice-seeking werewolves to an otherwise familiar formula of hidden magic-users must have been just what viewers were looking for.
