Filmmaker, musician, improviser, medical practitioner and weirdo, Jo Jett, has been fearlessly creating and directing projects out of New York City and Los Angeles since 2009. Yes, that's her real name. She is best know for her film, "Turkey Fools Day," a bizarre, experimental comedy that is dedicated to "Freaks, Weirdos and Outcasts," for a 2017 release. "I have a dream of redefining what it means to be 'normal.' I think I do that, at least for a little while, in Turkey Fools Day."
In Frisky Films Project, her latest series (and how Turkey Fools Day was made), she simultaneously films and livestreams (via Facebook and Periscope @FriskyFilms) her productions in as little as a few hours by shooting just a few long-takes (Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) style). "I love the collaborative part of working this way in pre-production, using clown and improv tools to build the characters and story together, with the actors. And then I like to do the same visually with the DP and let her/him bring their own creativity to the project. It's so cool because someone will come up with something I never would have thought of and they inspire me and I inspire them and we keep going until we find something we are all excited about."
Jett resides in Los Angeles with her dog, Frita*, in a Recreational Vehicle. She gets to make movies instead of paying rent.
She plans to continue creating and exploring in all genres of film and music projects. She dreams of owning a production company one day that specializes in developing projects led by women (and other weirdos) and that is known for curating a safe, supportive, passionate and fun environment that inspires women to flourish in their badassness in fearlessly making touching, as well as pioneering, art. Her current plan A to accomplish this is to ask Madonna (and other badass women and freaks) for help. She hasn't figured out how to do that yet. However, she is open to suggestions and/or a Plan B.
*Frita is named after the corn chip, not the boss painter.
