Hungry for some new episodes of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets”? Ravenous perhaps? Well dig in, because your first look at Season 3 is here.

Featuring returning players Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cyprus, Lauren Ambrose, and Elijah Wood, the older cast is now joined by Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank in an unknown role, but one thing’s for sure: She doesn’t seem happy to be crossing paths with this crew.

In the past timeline of the series, winter is finally subsiding, giving way to spring, but that doesn’t mean any less troubles ahead for the stranded teens, as their animalistic tendencies only seem to be growing with each passing day. In addition to living characters played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, and Courtney Eaton, the first looks also hints at the return of Ella Purnell as the ghost of Jackie, the first eaten by the group.

By the end of "Yellowjackets" season 2, it seemed we'd met all the survivors of Flight 2525's fateful crash into the wilderness. But the Ccxp teaser trailer for "Yellowjackets" season 3 has just introduced a new wild card: a mystery character played by Hilary Swank ("Million Dollar Baby"), who is around the same age as the rest of the present day cast, and is seen standing in the road with a bloodied face and makeshift bandage on her arm. 

"The past will come back to hunt you," the trailer warns, before teasing fresh mysteries and more reveals from the past. Though some character deaths have been revealed as the 1996 storyline has progressed, many characters' fates are still technically ambiguous, and fans are holding out hope that there might be more crash survivors out there. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patrick Dempsey joined their Dexter: Original Sin castmates and a group of Yellowjackets stars at the Paramount+ Ccxp Talent Welcome Party on Friday (December 6) in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The party was hosted at the Rosewood Sao Paulo to commemorate the start of 2024 Comic Con Experience – São Paulo.

Dexter: Original Sin stars Christian Slater, Molly Brown, Patrick Gibson were also present for the event. Yellowjackets was represented by Sophie Thatcher, Kevin Alves, Sophie Nelisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Courtney Eaton.

The past is coming back to haunt hunt the surviving Yellowjackets once again.

A terrifying new teaser trailer that was released on Saturday during fan event Ccxp 2024 in São Paulo, Brazil, dropped the first hints at what season three of the hit coming-of-age survival horror series has on its menu when it returns on Feb. 14.

The footage (below) opens with a warning that the past will come back to “hunt,” and the words are overlaid on top of someone wearing the Yellowjackets team survivors’ infamous cannibalism mask, indicating what creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and co-showrunner Jonathan Lisco have warned us along: More cannibalism is coming.

Things are only getting more difficult for the crash survivors in both the past and the present timelines with “Yellowjackets” Season 3.

The first teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated third season makes it plain what’s coming: the past. The warning is blasted loud over the first look, saying, “The past will come back to you.”

“Once upon a time, a bunch of teenage girls got stranded in the woods and they went completely nuts,” the Showtime teaser opens.

What follows is a smattering of images that show the ’90s crash survivors devolving further into their tribal and cult-like thinking – some even saying things like “can’t believe we didn’t eat that bitch first” – while the present day survivors try to figure out who is hunting them.

More exciting news for Yellowjackets fans! Sarah Desjardins, who plays Callie Sadecki in the hit horror-thriller series, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming season 3. That means more screen time and crazy shenanigans for Jeff and Shauna's teenage daughter. Desjardins had a recurring role on the show in the previous two seasons.

This great news comes just days after the announcement of the official release date for Yellowjackets season 3. After a terribly long wait, the highly anticipated third season will land on Paramount+ with its first two episodes on Feb. 14, 2025. However, you'll only be able to watch the series on the streaming service if you have the Paramount+ with Showtime plan. Two-time Best Actress Oscar winner Hilary Swank is joining the cast of the Paramount+ with Showtime thriller series in a recurring role in the upcoming season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Details of her role are being kept under wraps, but THR reports that she’ll make her first appearance in the latter half of the season, which is in production now.

Swank is not the only familiar face joining “Yellowjackets” for Season 3; Joel McHale (“Community”) is also joining the genre-bending thriller in a guest-starring role. The Oscar winner’s character in the Paramount+ with Showtime series is being kept under wraps. She will appear alongside cast members Melanie Lynskey, Sophie Nélisse, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, Samantha Hanratty, Tawny Cypress, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Courtney Eaton, Lauren Ambrose, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, and Kevin Alves. It was previously announced that Joel McHale will guest star in the new season.

No premiere date has been set for Season 3 of the popular series at the time of this publishing, but the new episodes are currently in production. Season 2 aired in early 2023, with Paramount having renewed the show ahead of the Season 2 premiere.

Filming for Season 3 started in May of this year and is scheduled for a 2025 premiere.

Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, it alternates between two timelines, one that follows a group of teenagers in 1996 who were involved in a plane crash and a second one that chronicles the consequences of those events in their adult lives in 2021. The critically-acclaimed series has received 10 Primetime Emmy Award nominations so far as well as a Peabody nomination. Because of corporate restructuring at Paramount Global, this new season will premiere on Paramount+ With Showtime.

On Sept. 1, Netflix shared some good news with its subscriber base. It announced that the first season of the popular Showtime horror-thriller series Yellowjackets would be coming to the streaming platform in October. We definitely didn't see this coming, but we couldn't be more excited. Yellowjackets season 1 is slated to land on Netflix on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024.

Recently, we've seen the release of several Showtime series on Netflix. For example, the streamer added the anthology drama series Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, the drama miniseries Patrick Melrose and the legal drama series Your Honor to its platform in May 2024. As Ella Purnell was in the middle of shooting her future hit series Fallout, she found herself pining away for the circle of friends she had formed by way of her previous hit series, Yellowjackets. The English actor had joined the Showtime series knowing full well that her starring role as Jackie Taylor, the captain of the Yellowjackets soccer team, would conclude with her dramatic death in the season one finale. But as Purnell bonded more and more with her fellow Yellowjackets actors, her one-season role, initially a selling point, became less appealing. So she tried to reverse course and prolong her stay in the inhospitable wilderness where the desperate teenage characters have to resort to cannibalism as a means of survival.

Canadian director Louise Archambault’s latest work, Irena’s Vow has a fascinating real-life story at the center of it. It is about a young Polish woman going out of her way to save the lives of as many as twelve Jews during the Second World War. But the execution of it is extremely basic. Naturally, the result is another war-drama movie that is decent at best and completely rests on the shoulders of its lead performer, Sophie Nelisse. Well, I have to say Nelisse makes it work by being truly fantastic in the role of Irena. Yellowjackets Season 3 has officially started filming in the wilderness. Showtime teased that the new season of the drama has started production.

The network dropped a carousel of photos on social media teasing what’s ahead for the new season, alongside the caption, “We know you’re starving.”

Season 3 of the series will air in 2025, as production on the psychological thriller was delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strike.

Season 3 will see showrunners Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco directing episode two episodes, with Nickerson taking on episode 301, and Lisco will be directing episode 303.

Pre-production for Season 3 of the drama was shut down a day after the WGA strike began in May 2023. Once the strike was over, the writers room for Yellowjackets reopened in September.
