Mariam Naoum, an Egyptian screenwriter, comes from a family of accomplished artists; her father, Nabil Naoum, is a novelist with several published works and her mother, Suzanne El Masry, a well-known jeweler of unique hand-made silver and bronze designs.
Mariam studied economics in France then returned to Egypt to study screen writing, graduating from the High Cinema Institute - Screenwriting department - in 2000. After her graduation from the Institute she worked for several years in different fields including short feature films, programs, documentaries, children's series and programs, as well as commercials for television.
Mariam is considered a leading social/ feminist screenwriter and her work addresses the challenges of those who are marginalized both socially and economically with a special focus on women's issues. Her passion for dramatic screen writing is because she considers it a mirror of society with the ability to express a powerful mixture of emotions in each moment.
